We have already learned that Tri Force Heroes, a Zelda installment designed to feature a lot of co-op, can be played with three players or alone but not with two. This set-up has lead to speculation around what happens if one of your comrades winds up quitting or dropping out of the game unexpectedly in the midst of gameplay.

According to director Hiromasa Shikata, if someone drops out or quits, the other two players will be taken to a Game Over screen, and their progress will be saved. Also, the remaining players won’t be able to continue to progress through the dungeon together unless a replacement for the third player is found. Otherwise, they will have to go it alone, solo, as the game doesn’t allow two player play.

Considering that Tri Force Heroes will feature online play, it may be reassuring to gamers that progress will be saved in the event of someone leaving, preventing trolls from causing item loss or loss of progress by quitting. Further, the ability to continue playing solo in the case of losing a player allows for less game play interruption. Then again, it could also cause a lot of frustration if faulty internet connections result in losing other players. Considering that the game is based around three-person play, however, this solution may be the most viable one.

What do you think about Nintendo’s solution for losing one of the players on the team? Do you think it prevents problems or will cause them?
