Culture Shock: Majora’s African Roots Part 2

Gaijin Goombah is keen on connecting The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask with African culture, to the point where he’s working on what seems to be a four part series of videos linking the two. If this sounds in any way familiar to you, that’s because back in October we reported on his first video where he examines the different bosses in the game. This time around he tries to correlate the usage of masks as a central theme in the game with that of the African culture. He explores the similarities between not only their meaning, but also the way in which they are used, both methodically and socially.

The video definitely brings up some interesting points, though it does feel at times as if it’s trying to make things fit a little too much. If the title used at the beginning of the video is to be believed, then there should be two more “episodes” to look out for, so who knows? Maybe the subject of those videos will help solidify his thoughts on both part one and two. Only time will tell. In the mean time, let us know what you guys think in the comments!
