A Link to the Past Graphic Novel to be Reprinted in May
Posted on January 27 2015 by Rod Lloyd
In 1992, a 12-issue comic book adaptation of A Link to the Past was released monthly in Nintendo Power. The miniseries was then collected into a full trade release the following year, but has not returned for additional printing since. Today, manga and anime distributor Viz Media announced that this comic book, simply titled The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, will be brought back into print for the first time in 20 years. The full-color graphic novel release is set for May, which is exciting for fans who have been yearning to read this rare book.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is a comic book by prolific manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori (best know for his manga Cyborg 009). The book is loosely based on the game of the same name, retaining the original plot but also adding new characters and story elements. The miniseries was serialized in Nintendo Power for a total of 12 issues in 1992 and then collected into a graphic novel the next year. The book is technically considered an original English-language manga as it was originally published in English, but Viz Media simply identifies it as a graphic novel.
The reprinted full-color edition will be published by Viz Media’s Perfect Square imprint this May. This comic book will join Viz Media’s The Legend of Zelda Manga Box Set, a separate manga series by Akira Himekawa. Considering the release of this new reprint is handled better than other certain Nintendo products, many fans should get the chance to read a graphic novel that has not been on the market for more than two decades.
