That's news to me. Thanks for sharing it.

The assume the date for Switch will be delayed but we will get the full info about it in January. They are working closely with Nintendo on this to get it al sorted out. It is Rare after all. They know now to piss off their golden cash cow (ie Nintendo fans). I am sure they could have siad this earlier but also are quite disappointed internally that ti came to this. The upsiade? Yooka-Laylee on the go wherever we want on the Switch. Also it will not have any frame drops at all. BotW (a much more intesive and open game) can paly well on the Switch, that means Yooka-Laylee will too as these blokes know how to program well.
You are right. The Switch version will be the definitive version of the game, because you can take it on the go without losing any graphical fidelity.

Keep hold of your spare change: Rextro’s awesome arcade games are coming to Yooka-Laylee!

Playable in both single-player mode or with up to four players in local multiplayer, these 8 unique competitive games are designed to channel the heyday of couch multiplayer, when ‘lag’ meant forgetting what time of day it was when your mates eventually switched off and stumbled home.

There are eight different games – accompanied by retro-tastic tunes from the one and only Steve Burke (Kameo, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts) – including arena brawler Glaciators, old-school racer Kartos Karting and the friendship-destroying Jobstacle Course. Check out more screenshots over on the Yooka-Laylee game page.

As well as the local multiplayer arcade games, Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to co-star in the main Yooka-Laylee adventure. Taking control of the Bee Team, a second player can grab quills, collect and store butterflies, stop traps and more!

REMINDER: Ahead of the option to switch platforms, we encourage all Kickstarter backers to make sure they have access to their Backer Kit account and contact Backer Kit support to solve any issues.
We’re currently working on a much larger update with information on, among other things, how Kickstarter backers will be able to change platforms and upgrade to physical versions. Thanks for your patience while we get the details up to scratch.

GOING GOLD

Can you fathom that in just over two months Yooka-Laylee will be released? And as our proverbial tank treads take us thundering us towards d-day, our ranks grow ever larger…

TOO MANY COOKS
Hot on the heels of recent arrivals Andy Wilson (producer) and Gary Richards (designer), please welcome Viva Pinata designer Justin Cook to the Playtonic team!

Here’s his RPG backstory:

The official Joiner’s Bush clearly suffering in the British Winter.
Like all most initiates, Justin had to prove himself in the QA trenches before he could scrap alongside the battle-hardened level scribblers we call ‘designers’.

Cook worked in testing on games such as Perfect Dark, Banjo-Tooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day before joining a tiny team in 2003 to prototype what eventually became Viva Piñata – and ending up as the series’ lead designer. His design credits also include It’s Mr. Pants, the Kinect Sports series and more.

Harassed for a few nice words over Skype, Justin eventually conceded: “I came to Playtonic because I like working ‘hands on’ with a game as part of a small team of experts. Joining Playtonic now, feels like a chance to ‘be-there’ at the start of something special.”

Welcome, JC. We’re sure we’ll all get on fine.

YOOKA’S AWAYLEE
More good news! Almost two years since Playtonic announced itself to the world – and 21 months since our Kickstarter campaign – we’re absolutely delighted to announced that Yooka-Laylee has gone gold!

Always believe in your soul, etc

We couldn’t have reached this moment without the incredible support of our backers, fans, family and friends across the games industry. Thanks again for your unwavering enthusiasm for our studio. We hope you enjoy Yooka-Laylee when it releases on April 11!

KICKSTARTER BACKERS: IMPORTANT UPDATE
Today we have published a very important update on how Yooka-Laylee console Kickstarter backers will soon be able to prepare their final platform choices, ahead of the game’s April 11 release.

Head over to Kickstarter for the full information breakdown.

*************************

Today we have a very important update on how console backers will soon be able to prepare their final platform choices for Yooka-Laylee, ahead of the game’s April 11 release.

Very soon we will unlock BackerKit surveys and allow you to make final adjustments to your game platform including Nintendo Switch, plus the opportunity to upgrade to a physical version for PS4 and XB1. Wii U backers affected by our recent announcement can also request a refund.

Thanks for your patience on this: we’ve been working very hard here at Playtonic not just to keep everyone as satisfied as we can, but to deliver the game you expect too.

First, an important reminder: Ahead of console surveys being unlocked (we will send another update to let you know when that happens), we encourage all Kickstarter backers to make sure they have access to their BackerKit account and contact BackerKit support to solve any issues. We’ve also prepared a detailed FAQ that should answer any questions you may have.

Digital console backers: Please note that if you choose to step up to a physical console version a £20 GBP upgrade cost will be required, which covers cost of goods, handling and shipping.

We continue to work closely with Nintendo on plans for a Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee and more details will be revealed in the future. We’d like to thank our many Nintendo fans for their continued patience and understanding while we form our plans: we hope to make your platform of choice a great place to experience Yooka-Laylee in the future!

Note: Upon release, the Switch version will be delivered to backers via digital game codes and thus no additional upgrade cost is required.

Forthcoming options depending on your current platform choice

When we unlock your survey through BackerKit, Wii U backers will be able to do one of the following:
- Change to a PC digital Steam version (and receive Toybox Plus on PC Steam to compensate for price difference)
- Change to a digital console version (Xbox One, PS4 or Switch)
- Upgrade to a physical console version (Xbox One or PS4 - £20 upgrade cost applies)
- Request a refund
*Please note that all Wii U backers who don’t choose another platform will be defaulted to PC digital Steam
.
When we unlock your survey through BackerKit, Xbox One & PS4 backers will be able to do one of the following:
- Change to a PC digital Steam version (and receive Toybox Plus on PC Steam to compensate for price difference)
- Change to a different digital console version (Xbox One, PS4 or Switch)
- Upgrade to a physical console copy (Xbox One or PS4 - £20 upgrade cost applies)
- If you’re happy with your original choice, do nothing at all!

PC digital backers
- Thank you for your support too. You don’t need to make any adjustments to your survey and will receive your pledges as planned.

Huge thanks again to all backers for your patience and support as we work through the process of delivering many physical items, plus complex fulfillment plans, to ensure that everyone is as satisfied as possible with the game, on their platform of choice!

Look out for another message soon alerting you to when your BackerKit survey is unlocked.

I am so very disappointed in Playtonic. Not only did they cancel the Wii U version of the game. They refuse to have give any information on the Switch version in general. They cannot even give a tentative release date to their Kickstarter Backers.

I don't see that as an issue because it's still months before the other release dates. There is time to get Switch information out to us.
What annoys me though is the fact there is no Switch Physical version. That's what a lot of us are after and for the forseeable future that is not happening.

They have until February 16th to give us information on the Switch Version.

That is when release codes are locked and loaded(and you cannot change them). Other than this, they leave the majority of their backers in the dust.

I mean, not having at least a window is absolutely insane. Considering that there is a huge difference between say, a 1 month delay, and a 10 month delay for a lot of people. It is because of this, that I reached out to Playtonic to get a refund. I am using that money to go to a physical Switch version whenever the hell it releases.

They said that they would like to do a physical version, but it is not going to be available via the Kickstarter.

Well it's the best damn gamecube game I've ever seen then. Better by a country mile.
This is obviously at best Wii U-tier graphics but probably much worse. Look at a PS4 game like the newly released Horizon and then look at this. No doubt the game will be great but it's extremely obvious they did very little to upgrade the graphics for the Switch. It's a PC game with a port.
