You do realise that they had like 14 months to make a whole new Fallout game with pressure from Bethesda to release the game in time as well? ;p
It's hard not to blame the publisher when you are tasked to make a huge game within a limited time and I throughly agree with their reasonings as...
I think this is a great summary. The game started off amazing, but as you delve desperate you realise it lacks depth. The story gets a whole lot more bland and basically becomes "choose which faction you don't really care about". The side quests, at least the interesting ones, dry up and you're...
@DoomDash Yeah this is where Bethesda fall short on Fallout games. They made exactly the same mistake in Fallout 3. The karma system was good and all, but it put you down this path of you're either good or bad, which really simplified things. The story was pretty much a one choice ending and it...
I haven't even nowhere come close to go finishing the game yet, but I am 50 hours in so I think I can give a good summary of my thoughts.
---
First off, this game can be a lot of "you'll really love it or you'll really hate it". It was the same with Fallout 3, but that game was nowhere near as...
Honesty, Fallout 4 is kind of different from the other games in the series since you can cater towards multiple builds, which not sure yet if it's a good advancement or not. Anyway, I think the best option is to always specify around two builds (whatever they may be). Worst thing you can do is...
Randomly wandering the wasteland when I see a giant ****ing meteor in the sky. After searching around for like half an hour I found an alien spaceship. Then I hunted down the alien and got his Alien Blaster (nice nod to Fallout 3). It's moments like these that make this game so great.
That's where the Frag mines come in and, if I need to, Bottlecap Mines. I actually think mines are one of the most powerful items in the game if you use them right. Especially in New Vegas with a max explosive skill, but so far they seem pretty powerful in this game too.
Oh yeah forgot to mention I do sometimes use melee. My character has 10 strength (because of apparel), plus I've taken a couple of melee perks and have found quite a few melee magazines. Not to mention I picked up a legendary item that has a 50% chance to dismember. It does kind of defeat the...
What's your guys' playstyle?
I'm a sniper and rely on stealth most of the time. Got a pretty good modified sniper, which I named Boone in remembrance of my beloved sexy bald companion in New Vegas, lol. I think I pretty much play every Fallout this way, I'll get a high damage weapon (Gauss...
Also, I think I prefer Fallout New Vegas' weapons system so far. I think the crafting in Fallout 4 is good, and I haven't touched the surface of it yet, but New Vegas had a great balance. A huge selection of guns, a simple and expensive modding system, custom ammo and reloading benches. I think...
I think a lot of people tend to over glorify Fallout 3 when it comes to comparisons. I love F3 and I've played it so many times that I really don't see this "dumbing down" I keep hearing. I actually just finished Fallout 3 before playing Fallout 4 and the big difference I noticed is this game is...
Most of the things I just figure out myself. Maybe that's because I'm accustom to Bethesda games though. Even so, this game is more user friendly than the likes of Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
Yeah I almost always go with stealth in Fallout games due to the sheer power of criticals. Sneaking on these Ghouls is slightly harder, but as long as you keep your distance, and back off after a kill, you're fine. I'm currently using a Hardened Sniper (I think that's what it's called), so it's...
Just went through Lexington, I didn't really find it that bad really. Maybe it's because I'm running a stealth character and my sneak critical can one shot the Ghouls at the moment. Stealth in this game is actually really good, on par with New Vegas.
Oh and I'll try and post my character later.
Jesus, seeing that reminds me of the Legendary Deathclaw in New Vegas. Imagine a narrow cave filled with about 20 Deathclaws... yeah. Only legendary enemy I've encountered so far is a Mongrel and it killed someone who I was talking to, lol.
These were my first couple of hours spent in the game (list yours if you like as well):
Tried to make myself; ended up trying to make Obama, Kanye West and then a bald Britney Spears.
After spending way too much time making deformed people, I decided to explore my village when the bombs were...
I'm a few hours in now and wow. It improves in every way over the other games in the series. Here's a few positives so far:
Combat/shooting almost feels like an FPS with a unique twist
They've made VATs even better and less OP, which is what everyone wanted
Enemies are more dynamic and are...
Not to go too off topic (maybe we should create another thread), but yeah that's how I felt. Though I actually think it makes the Witcher 3 unique because let's face it, both games are open world RPGs but differ so much. I guess different things work for different games. The Witcher 3 is a much...
Another thing I forgot to point out. Honestly, even though I'm relived Fallout 4 is getting great reviews, and I'm happy for Bethesda as a whole, I don't think it would have affected me all that much. Gone are the days where we didn't judge a game based on 3rd party opinions and it's a shame...
The reviews are pretty great so far. 90-91 is the average and the general consensus is that the game is itself is amazing, but a few things (basically performance) bring it down. This isn't a surprise to anyone who's played any Bethesda game. Their games are always fantastic and push the RPG...
I've got 19 days to play it as much as possible before I move to New Zealand. But I'm awful at completing games quick and I have a ton of stuff to do to prepare. Oh well, I'm still going to enjoy it.
Even though I really like the tone that Fallout 3 sets, you've got to admit, the lack of colour is pretty poor even by 2008's standards. F3 is one of my favorite games ever, but visually, I always thought it lacked. I get what style they were going for, but the gloomy greys and greens were kind...
Well, I just see more variety which is what I'm liking better so far. My only problem with the Witcher 3 is that I've gotten slight bored of the same setting - especially the same town designs since it's like they've copy and pasted every settlement.
Graphically though, I guess on paper it's...
I actually, in a way, prefer Fallout 4's visuals. The Witcher 3 has stunning set pieces, but the scenery gets quite repetitive after a while. Fallout 4 looks like it has more variety in its colour scheme. Plus I really like the artstyle they're going for. I guess we can judge for real when the...
These leaks have gotten ridiculous. I'm actually annoyed at myself for looking at the first few and posting them here even though they had no spoilers. I have been avoiding most sites since there's literally spoilers and stupid naive hate comments everywhere. I don't mind people criticizing the...
I think it's due to the sheer detail in the game. Most RPGs don't have a world where every item is interactive and it's probably those little details I'm guessing. Or it could be the improved physics. Bethesda recently announced that Fallout 4 has destructible environments as well, which is...
Here's the footage fror anyone who missed it.
Not going to lie, and this may be my fanboy side coming out, but this completely blew me away. They've went above and beyond what I originally thought. They haven't just improved on the fundamentals, but they've added so much new stuff. I think...
So everything so far is pointing to a 2015 release, but now Gamestop Italy have actually set a date (source).
Now this date could easily just be a mistake or a placeholder, but I think it's pretty odd. First off, why would they actually set a specific date in October? Every other pre-order...
That could be true, or it could have been reserved with some highly advanced technology like Vegas was. What we know though is that probably the most advanced civilisation, post great war, occupies Boston, so that could explain the advancements in the city which I'm guessing is the Institute.
Also is anyone else really excited to explore an actual city?
The downtown area in F3 was good, but most of it was inaccessible and connected via the metro system and New Vegas (the actual city) was quite small. This time it looks like there's an actual living breathing city (skyscrapers)...
I really liked the dark gritty feel that Fallout 3 had; it really added to the atmosphere. Though I don't mind a change. Remember New Vegas, while on the same engine, had a brighter colour scheme to fit the theme of the game.
The Capital Wasteland was meant to be this dark desolate state...
My reaction
Damn though, I didn't expect them to release a ****ing full on trailer. Been literally waiting for this for nearly 5 years now.
It looks stunning, probably the best I've seen on 8th Gen so far (trailer wise). The atmospheric effects look great and they've changed the art style...
