Download Play and Local Play

If you only have 1 person for local or download play can you go online and search for a person because my friend doesnt have the game and he wants to play with me sometime but we dont have a 3rd person

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. The only way download play works is via local play, so if you go online, I think you lose the download play. I haven't really tried, though, so maybe it works.
