What did you think about the ending of Link's Awakening? Did you like the fact that it was all a dream? I'll report with my answer later.

Hold for a second. Can I just quick ask, why can you not put your answers now? Do you need to see a greater opinion? Do you need more posts? Are you undecided?
But uh, I've never quite liked the ending. From what I remember of it, it's just him waking up right? I mean, what is that? I like you know those good exciting happy endings, not, oh my gosh it was a dream and he wakes up on a freaking piece of board.![]()
OSAMA BIN LADENHIDE AND SEEK WORLD CHAMPION: 2001-2011
Three words. Lame seriously lame. I hate the whole 'it was all a dream' ending. It's seriously cheesy and rubbish. Always was, always will be. However, I do really like the fact that we always knew it was a dream throughout the whole game. Well, most of the game, from like, face shrine onwards. I liked that, because that was different, and it put a whole new spin on the whole 'it was all a dream!![]()
.' ending.

Normally the blunt "It's only a dream" ending is the worst writer's cop-out ending you can produce. Most often when the "It's a dream" ending is used, it's because the writers wrote the characters into such a hole, or they screwed them up so badly that they didn't know how else to get them out of it and return everything to the way it was before.
I think the dream ending actually worked in LA because it was slowly revealed throughout the game that something wasn't right, and it was told before you woke up that this island was the stuff of dreams. I think it was handled correctly and was thought of from the beginning. It wasn't a "Oh geez, we really messed Link up this time... How do we solve this?" ending. It was consciously thought out and played through as to the ultimate fate of the island.
Because of this, I enjoyed the ending greatly. It was actually a bit sad instead of a standard "Give me a break!" feeling that comes with this writer's cliche.
I love LA to death. I think it's the best 2D Zelda so far, being better than even the mighty ALttP. But, this ending was kind of lame. I had already played Mickey's Magical Quest before LA, so the "It was a dream" thing didn't surprise me much. I kinda laugh when people say it was the biggest plot twist in Zelda history. Guess that means that Mickey's Magical Quest has a better plot and twist than every other Zelda game created other than LA.
Personally, I thought that the ending to Link's Awakening was really lame. I loved the ending to others like MM, WW, and TP. LA's ending was beyond stupid. I really hate how they basicly told you the ending in the title, and about halfway through the game you get told that the entire island is fake.
The only part that I liked was the music. I LOVE the ending theme to LA.
And the only reason that I didn't post my answer first is that I didn't want to sway the answers of others.

I loved the Main game of Link's Awakening, but, Nintendo ruined the ending to a truly exellent game.
The whole "It was only a dream" Ending has been used too many times, it ruined the initial plot and was quite boring.
Nintendo really should have thought of how fans would react this ending, they should have realised that it has been used too many times over.
So as a Closing statement, The Ending to Link's Awakening, In my opinion, was one of the worst endings in a Zelda game.

I like to think the ending was ambiguous--that it may have been just a dream, but it may have been something more. The world was so rich, and you got so involved in it (IMO it's one of the best worlds in a Zelda game) that it's hard to believe Link just thought that all up in his mind. He could just as well have stumbled into some parallel universe, or truly destroyed an island he came across, which would have to be one of the darkest Zelda endings ever.
Then again, if he did, perhaps it says something about him. If it was "just a dream," it's an interesting opportunity to dive into Link's psyche.
I still like to think there was something more to it.
At first I sort of didn't want it to be a dream. Think about it, if it was a dream, that sort of makes my accomplishments, the people I've made relationships with, and the items I've collected all for naught. Wasn't my favorite ending ever, but it was a great game overall.
I love Link's Awakenings ending.
It's so sad, and it's beautiful at the same time.
The island and the people on it like Marin are real.
They have to be real, they have hopes and dreams like everyone else.
There's no way they can be dreams.
And then, Link finds out that none of it is real, but it's real to him.
He's seen people like Marin(who wants to see the rest of the world)have dreams, so he starts to wonder if waking up the Windfish is the right thing to do.
In the end Link realizes that no matter how beautiful the island(and the people on it)are that it's only a dream world.
And people can't live on just dreams, they have to live in the real world.
To me there's something sad about it, but beautiful at the same time.
Well that's my opinion on LA ending.

My favorite Zelda game is LADX (and OoT) so I can be a little biased, but I still think that the ending of LA was okay. Some people (like Midna above me) sees the ending as beatiful/sad, and I don't really find it beatiful, but there is something sad about it... In a cool way.

Zelda games completed: TLoZ, ALttP, LADX, OoT, MM, OoS and PH.
The Big Lebowski (FTW!)
Ending was better than most of the Zelda games, 'cause the whole 'it was only a dream' thing hadn't been used in a Zelda game yet.
What I liked most about it, is the fact that they didn't throw it in as a last minute plot twist.
It was presented better in the manga though.
My energy...gone...I...lost! But you will be lost too, if the Wind Fish wakes!
Same as me...you...are...in...his...dream...
I liked the ending. It was sad and makes me reminisce about people in my real life. I like seeing Link on a board of wood, kind of a "oh-no-what's-going-to-happen-to-that-brave-little-guy-now?" feeling. Makes me want to be there with him to tell him everything will be okay...although that is far from the truth.
