Whjy does everyone say the Water temple in oot is the hardest thing ever? To me it's pretty easy. Well not easy but not hard. Medium. Post your thoughts.

It was pretty easy, especially when I played throught the game a 2nd time. I must have been lucky, because some people say that they used a key in the wrong place, and had to start the game all over again.

It wasnt the fact of using a key in the wrong place but more along the lines of not finding the last dungeon key.
Other than the first time I tried it, I've always found it generally easy. I don't think I've come across many problems with the keys. I usually know where to go if I need one more.

The most trouble I had with it was backtracking to change the water level. Other than that I thought it wasn't to bad.

It never was troubling, more like it was a trial and error thing till you got what you had to do

Its not necessarily the hardest thing ever, just up there in the ranks of hardest temple in OoT. Think about it, the forest and shadow temples were pretty simple. The spirit temple was easy too, just lasted longer. Ganon's Castle wasn't hard, just more challenging when it came to actually doing the things you had to do to progress. The fire temple at times could be confusing and difficult as well, but not near as much back-tracking as was required in the water temple.
The water temple itself had a lot you had to search for, if you didn't find a route that was easy to remember and that you could go through each time you beat it. Personally, I don't play OoT too much these days, and if I were to play through it, I know that the water temple would give me the most trouble.

If you were to take the time and use the dungeon map and compass unlike my self, yes I can say it was difficult. Especially to remmber were all the different rooms were, which ones you've been in and all the back tracking. The temple isn't very big, but its like having 3 different temples in one. With the potental to have the water level at 3 different levels it made some challenges.
If you have played the Master Quest version of the water temple... its the easiest thing in the world. I think I skipped about 3/4's of the temple and went in and destroyed the boss....
hell master quest is so messed up... I forgot how to get into the fire temple, so I went ahead to the water temple and got the long shot. Then used the scarecrow song and entered the fire temple, without doing any of the "entrace quests" in Goron city....
that was a good time.

It's super annoying to navigate and the whole swimming/sinking/water level thing is akward.

I think it was a mixture of the gameplay and the missing key. It just ads up to the annoyance that the level made.
For one, it is a water level. Historically they don't seem to be the most popular of types of levels in Zelda titles. You don't seem like you are in full control of Link when you are swimming, you have a limited arsenal, and water enemies are pretty annoying. The whole water level raising/lowering and switching from the iron boots to the regular boots just built up the annoyance level.
Package the water gameplay with the keys... it made for a very annoying level for most gamers. Annoyance usually translates into difficulty in my opinion. People didn't want to keep searching the dungeon over and over because they were sick of the level. At least I was the first time I got stuck. Eventually I figured it out and once you get the hang of it, its not too bad.
It's deserving of the hardest though, since it was a bit harder than the rest of the dungeons in my opinion. However, I think much of the difficulty is attributed to the fact that it is a rather annoying level.

To me it wasn't too hard. The raising/lowering of water levels was annoying and the fact that I'd sometimes miss a key was frustrating, but it wasn't hard. I had fun fighting Shadow Link though, it gave me a good challenge.

The hardest thing in the Water Temple is battle with Dark Link.
So, the Water Temple is not hard, but if I forget a key somewhere, I must claim the water level, to get there.

I do think that the water temple is pretty though but it is also one of the best!!! Dark Link was not that challenging though, but he was awesome anyway

I'm a sucker to the key game. It forced me to restart!

It is probably the easiest temple in OoT to miss something in. I know there is a block that has to be pushed that if not pushed can seriously cause backtracking problems for most people as they try to figure out where to go to get to that block.

I think the only thing that gave me trouble was finding the last key, but it wasn't too hard. It was a lot easier than the Forest Temple. That one always gives me trouble for some reason. :hmm:
As Chris said, that was my main problem with it. I didn't push this one block in, so I didn't get one of the keys I needed (maybe the last one, I don't know), took me a while to actually find it, I spent hours going through the whole dungeon trying to find this last key. And I seriously would bet you that I would make the same mistake again.

I got a quick question for you all. There is always talk about the one 'missing key' that everybody seems to miss... Is this actually the same key at all that we are all referring too? I do not remember the temple vividly so I'll try to explain as best as I can.
I remember one part where I was on the third floor of a room and there was a hole in the center of the room that led to the second and first floor. On the third floor you can play the song on the Ocarina to lower the water to the first floor. I'd do that, but as the water was lowering, I'd hug against one of the walls and catch onto a ledge, so that I'm actually on the second floor. From there I either opened a treasure chest... or bombed a wall that led to a treasure chest with the small key. (I don't remember exactly). I never really did find out if there was another way of getting this small key, but that is what I always did.
The other key that I can think of, is the one at the bottom of the central room. There was the tower like thing in the middle of the large circular room within the temple. At the very bottom of this tower, there was a small block. I think the first time you go into this tower, the water level is at the bottom, so the block covers a hole. However, the second time you enter this area, the water level has raised. You then need to use the iron boots to sink through that hole, which leads to another small key I believe.
Am I right with these two small keys? If I recall, these were the two 'tough' ones, but perhaps I'm just talking jibberesh and don't recall them. Either way, I thought they were hard (and I forgot if you got the Dungeon Map and Compass already at this point). If you did already get them, I have no problem with hard to reach treasure chests since the map/compass should guide you in that direction. If you didn't get the map/compass, perhaps they should have just allowed Link to find those before hand.

Well, the "missing key" that I remember having trouble with was the second one you talked about, I think. I don't vividly remember the water temple either (maybe I have "selective memory" or something :D) but I seem to remember having to get an extra key, and finally finding one there.
Well, I don't think that it was either of those keys, I know it was one in the central room, but I can't quite remember what it was.

I didn't find the water temple hard but it was annoying having to always change the water levels, swim from level-to-level, remove and put the iron boots on. The only thing worth it in the temple is the Longshot, in my opinion.

Always nice to find a thread you're interested in that you haven't posted in.
Anyway, I really hated the Water Temple. It was pretty confusing, plus we have the fact you can literally screw your game and have to start all over just by using a key in the wrong place. Maybe they should have went over the game more before releasing it.
And the water level rising and falling was so annoying.

Indeed, the water level was annoying. But other than that, I had to go through every door about 10 times before I figured out about the hole under the floating platform in the center. XD
Wonder why it's so easy to glitch that dungeon?

They probably just took so much time on it, and being such a confusing dungeon, couldn't really figure out everything, so they couldn't fix everything, like the way you can get stuck by using a key in the wrong place.

I haven't got that far yet but don't you fight dark link there?
Kybyrian

Yes, you fight Dark Link there. Or at least that's how I remember it. It's somewhere near to a place in the dungeon past a Like-Like or two if I remember correctly. I haven't played it in a while.
Oh and when you do get there, Din's Fire is a good thing to use.
