The Slingshot in Twilight Princes has been mentioned in the 'Most Useless Item' thread numerous times and I wanted to expand on that.

I'm currently working on the Twilight Princess section of the site and alongside the walkthrough, I'm creating an items guide. I was wandering if there was anything else to say about the slingshot, after you get the arrows.

Basically, is there any purpose at all for the slingshot once Link has acquired the bow and arrow?

Personally, I enjoy using the slingshot when I'm just fooling around. Knowing that it isn't important since I have the bow and arrow, I can just randomly use seeds with the slingshot to attack enemies or randomly just try to shoot at people or animals.

One thing I found funny is walltulas. They are all over the forest temple and at the time, you always use your slingshot to defeat them since you don't have the arrows. When writing the guide, I for some reason naturally told people to use the slingshot to defeat walltulas when in the order area of the City in the Sky. Even though at that point in the game the slingshot has long since been obsolete because of the arrows.

Any other possible uses for the slingshot?

Not really. The slingshot unfortunately serves its purpose early in the game, and then quickly becomes extra luggage as you get other more useful items. Normally, I'd say that I'd use it if I ran out of arrows, but even then, the seeds can't pierce anything, and can't really kill enemies.

I don't think I used the slingshot at all once I got the arrows. I just end up forgetting about them, really.

not really, i think its main purpose was to get used to the aiming system on the wii.
thats the only reason i can think of.

Yeah, I guess that would make sense. Both to get the player used to the point-and-click targetting system, and possibly for the programmers to make sure it worked before implementing it in things like the bow.

I like to just shoot like a madman with the slingshot, knowing running out of ammo is meaningless. Ah yeah, those random people didn't know I mean serious business.

The Sling Shot is... Well... How should I put it... "Just Not"

For starters the seeds won't go dead-straight, they start falling if you aim too high to you have to aim at a certain point... I don't really see how it fits in the game, I mean I know, the more items in Link's magic pocket, the better but I have just never seen myself using this. Can't be bothered using it for fun either, as soon as I beat Twilight Princess, I never played it again, I beat Ganon again but he gets boring, Twilight Princess should have has that Majora's Mask thing where you can vs bosses again.. oops, got a little carried away there. But the point is, the Slingshot is a little useless, maybe Nintendo intended it for something bigger but just didn't have the time and ended up throwing it in for the lulz. This is just what I think anyways.

I never really used the slingshot in TP. If I hadnīt played OoT i would not have respected it (the slingshot) at all.

The slingshot has made three appearances. Ocarina of Time, Oracle of Seasons, and Twilight Princess.

In Oracle of Seasons though, the Slingshot was a stand alone weapon. There actually was a level 2 slingshot as well. I say stand alone... meaning, there wasn't an identical other weapon that more or less made the slingshot completely obsolete.

In Ocarina of Time, there was the bow and arrow as well as the slingshot. While the Bow would normally make the slingshot useless... you could never use the bow and slingshot at the same time. The Bow and Arrow were limited to Adult Link, while the Slingshot was limited to Young Link. This made both items very useful depending on how old Link was. (Although I personally would prefer Link just be able to use the Bow and Arrow in both ages... and Link gaining a new weapon instead)... or even, give more distinction between the two weapons.

In Twilight Princess however, there was no distinction at all. The slingshot and bow and arrow were both available weapons for Link to use at the same time. Since the arrows just did everything the slingshot did... there was no point in the slingshot. What a waste.

Let us also not forget Four Swords Adventures, where it really wasn't used as much more than an enemy-stunner. It could also be charged up to shoot a flaming stone, but even then, it didn't kill anything.
