I've gotten to this part in typing my walkthrough and just wanted to get everybodys thoughts on this item.

I love the idea and it completely fits in with the whole Pirate feel, searching for treasure with Linebeck, etc...

However, what do you guys think of the actual mini games. I think they are enjoyable, but the biggest thing I hate, is that I'm somewhat impatient at times and I attempt to rush to the bottom of the sea to get the treasure and my salvage arm keeps getting damaged. Ya, you can just fix it up at the shipyard at Mercay Island, but just having to go there and then come back seems rather annoying.

My other complaint is that it isn't 100% accurate, or maybe I'm just not good at it. Even after somewhat mastering the system, I find in certain areas the salvage arm just drifts to some sides for some reason and I keep getting hit.

Fun, nice mini games that the salvage arm adds, but also somewhat frustrating. Can't complain though, more is always better.

Yeah, I noticed that too with certain spots. When you pass by the rocks, the salvage arm automatically goes to the left and in another, to the right. I almost destroyed my Salvage Arm a ton of times because it kept hitting the rocks.

Other than that, I think it's neat but could be improved. Possibly throw some other obstacles besides mines and rocks. It's a little tedious after so much of it, especially if you're doing pirate hunting.

I found myself having the same probably as you Mases, the one about you rushing through it? I've found myself trying to get through it fast as well sometimes.
Overall I liked the salvage system. I mean, they could've just kept it simple and just did the same thing they did in WW; just send it down and it comes up with treasure. But what would be the fun in that? I liked how they did it, even though I've almost destroyed my salvage arm before.

i loved the whole idea. like mases said it gives me a "searching for treasure" feel.
in the beggining i also rushed to go to the bottom and get the treasure. after a couple of times i got used to it and bearly hit a thing. i think thats because, you memorize the type of obstacles. its not that they randomly set a field or something.

i dont really like the salvage arm although it helps... but its good cause it adds the whole looking for treasure/pirate theme!(like most of you said) and just like all of you said it is sometimes very hard to control.

Yeah, I've had the same problem. It does seem to drift away, even when you do nothing. I think it could have been improved.

There are bubbles when the salvage arm begins to drift. I don't really get the physics behind that. Does that really happen at the bottom of the ocean? It's not like its a thin piece of a paper, its a heavy chain. I don't know if the water would realistically be able to push it, maybe though, I'm no physicist.

I've noticed that these bubbles only happen when there are rocks near by and near the chest, which can be very annoying once you grab the chest because if theres a mine near the rocks and theres a drift its almost impossible not to damage your salvage arm. Just something else i would have liked to been able to fast forward through some of the animation, like when your taking the chest off the salvage arm, sorry if i got a little off topic there.

Perhaps it's just an overlooked bug. Although that would be pretty hard for something so obvious to be a glitch or bug.

a strong current could push the heaviest of chains. I've also noticed that it seems to drift sometimes, but if you keep you stylus to the control box it is much less likely to do so. If i keep the stylus on the box and wiggle it back and forth just a little it never drifts.

I think the drift comes from the oktomines (or whatever) that move horizontally. If you pass by near enough to one, you can get pushed by the water jet they use to swim around. And, even if one has disappeared from screen, if you're there at the right time you can still get pushed

The salvage arm seemed like a good idea at first but after a while, it's just annoying and I find that the reward doesn't always pay off. I could be searching for a ship part and get something I don't want and then I get mad. It would be cool if it were just a minigame to some other island but I usually just rush through everything to get the chest.
I liked in Wind Waker how you could salvage at any spot (with the rainbow ring of course) even without the map and how it vanishes and all you have to do is just find it.
I also don't get how the chain to the hook, in PH, passes through the rocks, goes in front of them, but the hook can get hit by them. It doesn't make sense to me and isn't good for something that is 3-D.

I think it could have been better if specific ship parts were in specific locations under the sea, rather than the randomness that was in some of the chests. Made it rather annoying when you kept getting the same duplicate ship parts. They should have had particular ship parts where you could ONLY get after getting a specific Treasure Map. Similar to how some had Sand of hours.
