View Full Version : New Zelda: OoT remake (hear me out before you dismiss it!)
Okay, I'm new here, but I'm a long-time Zelda fan. My brother and I got into the series 10 years ago with OoT and have been dedicated Zelda fans ever since (i.e. we've played and finished all the Zelda games since OoT, and LttP too). And over a year ago, we began seriously contemplating a remake to our favourite game OoT. Now, I don't just mean, lets give it better graphics and thats it. I'm talking massive, massive expansion.
Our reasoning is that most Zelda fans seem to just compare every new game to OoT anyway, and thats why no new games live up to everyone's standards. Also, since we're such strong fans of OoT we really want to see it expanded to something even more awesome. We also realise that it is HIGHLY unlikely that Nintendo would ever make this game, so we have plenty of fanservice (but nothing like, OMG Link can FLY everywhere, and turn into Oni Link, and PWN EVERYONE. Cause that just doesn't do a remake or OoT justice)
So, we have pages and pages of notes and sketches, but I will briefly summarise our main ideas about how the remake would work.
Firstly, as well as the original 'sections' of Child Link then 7 years and Adult Link, we've added two new sections.
First off, we have a 'prequel' sort of section. There were references in OoT to a war, and the King of Hyrule uniting the land and all its races. So this section, is essentially a series of 'chapters'/'episodes' during the 'Great War' (as we've called it), you play as various people of the different races and fight battles. We also have 11 Knights of Hyrule, from each of the races (3 Hylians, 2 Zora, 2 Goron, 2 Sheikah and 2 Deku) who wield many of the weapons/items which Link gets later in the game. This is probably our least developed section.
Secondly, and this will probably seem slightly controversial (and 'blasphemous') by some I'm sure. Between the time when Child Link is sealed away in the Sacred Realm, over the next 7 years, you play as Sheik. She has her own set of items, equipment, and dungeons to complete. She has three types of armour. Can weild daggers, katars, katanas and a staff. As well as shuriken, a chain hook, the fire/ice rod, and even has a Gerudo magic carpet.
Then of course there's our much expanded 'original' sections. The original 3 dungeons of Child Link haven't changed. However later in the game we have two more dungeons (as well as the Spirit Dungeon) which you need to play as both Child Link and Adult Link to complete. Probably most important is the fact that Adult Link now has 8 temples to cleanse of evil! They are the Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow, Spirit, Light, Wind and Temple of Time. Each also has a Sage, and is 'ruled by a race' so to speak. Forest has the Kokiri Saria. Fire has the Goron Darunia. Water has the Zora Ruto. Shadow has the Sheikah Impa. Spirit has the Gerudo Nabooru. Light has the Fairy Navi (I know! what a twist!) Wind has the Deku Roc. And Time has the Hylian Rauru.
To top it all off, each Medallion you get now gives Link a much missed feature - Magic! We've spent quite a bit of time choosing 2 magic spells, and 1 magical arrow, for each Medallion. Everything from walking on water to causing earthquakes, even lightning blasts and slowing time.
But wait, you might be wondering, why 2 magic spells? If you get 1 after getting the Medallion for completing the Temple.. then how do you get the second. The answer is... you complete each Temple TWICE. Thats right. After freeing the 8 sages and facing off against Ganondorf... You don't kill him (oops, total spoiler there), instead he revives all the Bosses and you need to go back through the Temples a second time!
Not only that, but we've wracked our brains thinking up items to get in each Temple both times. As well as staples such as Bombs, the Bow and Arrow, and the Double Clawshots. We have the Lens of Truth, Iron and Hover Boots, Megaton Hammer, and new items such as Roc's Cape, Digging and Climbing Claws (in one), and the Garo Robe. Though admittedly we still need some more items.
As for Hyrule itself, lets just say its bigger and better than ever before. Expanding on the original Hyrule of OoT in almost every direction. We've added new Hylian towns to the field such as Crossroads, Forest Town and Lake Town.
To the East we've expanded the Lost Woods and the Zora River now runs all the way through the Forest to Lake Hylia. Going through a small town called Zora Rafts. And passing through the Deku Swamp and near the Deku Palace.
After much deliberation, we moved Kakariko Village (and believe me, it was a painful decision) away from the base of Death Mountain. The Field now borders the Great Plains in the south, the edge of each being the Kakariko Gorge. The famous Village is in on either side of the Gorge, but still borders a Mountain Range which comes down along the edge of the field from the Gerudo Valley. These Mountains even contain the secret Sheikah Citadel.
Kakariko Village also borders the Great War Graveyard.
Following around the Mountains in the West you'll come to the Sea. Thats right! Southwest of Hyrule is the Ocean. And the best place to stop on the way West is Port Town. If you do trek into the Desert to the Desert Colossus or the other end of the Gerudo Fortress, you might even come across the nomadic Gerudo Village.
Going back North finally, there is the treacherous Gerudo Pass which leads through the mountains (which wrap around back to the North) to Hyrule Castle and Castle Town. And if you keep travelling North you'll come across Death Mountain (and Goron City), there you can either choose to cross a cable car to Snowpeak, or travel down the Zora's River to the Zora's Domain.
Needless to say, a game such as this, with so much more to do, so many more places to go, will also feature countless side quests, NPCs and plenty to explore. We've even added a seasons system, to give the world more depth.
This is only a brief mention of all our ideas. Unfortunately my drawing of our map had its file corrupted, so I won't be able to give you a drawing to get your head around our expanded Hyrule.
The main reason I joined this forum was a desire to see whether any other Zelda fans actually approve of the idea, want to learn more, or have any interesting ideas to contribute. Like I said, this is a VERY brief summary of our ideas, we have plenty more including ideas for quests, the temple order, and all the magic of the medallions, as well as the identities of the Knights of Hyrule, some storyline ideas, and the role the Sages play in the Temples.
So please, don't just post saying 'OMG no, they can never remake OoT!' Especially if you didn't bother to read all of this! Unfortunately I'm a busy senior in highschool, so you'll have to wait 6 months. Once I've graduated, I'm planning on creating a website outlining all our ideas for all Zelda fans to see.
So yeah... thanks for reading all of that, if you have. And I'd love to have more questions/contributions from some open-minded Zelda fans!
Ahahaha, fair enough! I'd love you to read it, but I'm glad to have your support already.
And I totally forgot some things that I was going to mention!
We added 3 new tunics (2 are post-Ganon fight mind you). The Gerudo Tunic, Sheikah Tunic and Hylian Knight Armour.
We also have a total of 30 hearts, and 45 heart pieces.
And as well as Heart Containers, the second time you beat each Temple you get Magic Containers. Just thought I'd add those few snippets.
Well, that was, interesting. I'm not really a fan of it, but good you put some thought into it, I don't really know if this would change the time line or not, I'm not really much informed on it. And I do somewhat agree with you on the everyone compares it to OoT, like some people think it's the master game, and if it isn't like that then it's not very good. Like TP I think, but I won't get into that. Hope you do good with the website too...and that's all I have to say.

tl;dr
But an awesome OoT remake would be much appretiated.

I like that idea a lot. If you were to develop it a bit more it would likely be incredible.
Secondly, and this will probably seem slightly controversial (and 'blasphemous') by some I'm sure. Between the time when Child Link is sealed away in the Sacred Realm, over the next 7 years, you play as Sheik. She has her own set of items, equipment, and dungeons to complete. I actually don't think that would be bad either. Though I think you should incorporate the chain and needles from Super Smash Bros. Melee, for a bit of continuity. Not so keen on the carpet though. Doesn't sound very ninjalike to me. Squadala.
Then of course there's our much expanded 'original' sections. The original 3 dungeons of Child Link haven't changed. However later in the game we have two more dungeons (as well as the Spirit Dungeon) which you need to play as both Child Link and Adult Link to complete. Spirit has the Gerudo Nabooru. Light has the Fairy Navi (I know! what a twist!) Wind has the Deku Roc. And Time has the Hylian Rauru.
The Temple of Light is where the Chamber of the Sages is, and is located in the Sacred Realm. That could either throw you off or give you something to work on.
Also, there's already an established Wind Temple, and the sage is a male Kokiri called Fado. Roc sounds too much like a name for a bird (Roc's Feather from Link's Awakening). You might want to shape that temple like it is in The Wind Waker.
To top it all off, each Medallion you get now gives Link a much missed feature - Magic! We've spent quite a bit of time choosing 2 magic spells, and 1 magical arrow, for each Medallion. Everything from walking on water to causing earthquakes, even lightning blasts and slowing time.
Like the Quake, Ether and Bombos medallions? Excellent idea.
I'm not so keen on an unsealed Ganondorf, but hell yeah to dungeon re-runs! I loved some of the bosses in OoT, and I'd love to see them again.
Go for it! Perhaps throw in some other items from other games - Deku Leaf, par exemple?
As for Hyrule itself, lets just say its bigger and better than ever before. Expanding on the original Hyrule of OoT in almost every direction. We've added new Hylian towns to the field such as Crossroads, Forest Town and Lake Town.
To the East we've expanded the Lost Woods and the Zora River now runs all the way through the Forest to Lake Hylia. Going through a small town called Zora Rafts. And passing through the Deku Swamp and near the Deku Palace.

These Mountains even contain the secret Sheikah Citadel.
Kakariko Village also borders the Great War Graveyard.
The idea of moving Kakariko hurts me too. Couldn't you place whatever you're putting there next to the other mountain range instead?
And feel free to attack me for this, but the Deku Palace sounds too much like Majora's Mask. Sorry.

Mountains before Castle Town? I can't say I'm too fond of that. The rest sounds bloomin' amazing though.
Needless to say, a game such as this, with so much more to do, so many more places to go, will also feature countless side quests, NPCs and plenty to explore. We've even added a seasons system, to give the world more depth.
Seasons! You're a genius!

I apologise for not giving any helpful suggestions, but I truly think you should do this. If ever I come up with any bright ideas, I'll try to let you know.
One thing I'd love to see would be getting inside Hyrule Castle. Perhaps you could make that a Young Link dungeon, complete with its A Link to the Past music?

The Ice Temple and Wind Temple was in fact in OoT before they took it out prior to the release along with the beamblade attack. But yes Im not reading all that right now either, but a OoT remake sounds good if you can pull it off.
Thankyou sooo much for your support! Firstly, I wrote up (for another forum I joined yesterday) a lot of the other ideas we've had, I totally forgot to put it up here. (And guess what, we already had the idea of using the Deku Leaf!)
Okay, firstly, the Medallion powers.
Forest:
Power 1- Plant Growth
Power 2- Healing (yourself and others, needs light)
Arrow- Entangle
Fire:
Power 1- Fire Whip/Swipe
Power 2- Din's Fire
Arrow- Burn
Water:
Power 1- Freeze/Douse (and when underwater, can somewhatcontrol water)
Power 2- Water Walking
Arrow- Freeze
Shadow:
Power 1- Shadow Mist/Turn to Shadow (to be honest, i forget exactly what this does (its been months since we made these up) i think it was something like, you create a shadowy mist which means that Link can turn into a shadow and go under things like doors, etc)
Power 2- Banish (a Demi hand reaches out of the ground and pulls enemies)
Arrow- Shadow (think a dark version of the Light Arrows!)
Spirit:
Power 1- Telekinesis (can lift up objects, such as trees, boulders, etc)
Power 2- Earthquake
Arrow- Petrify
Light:
Power 1- Glow/Light Up
Power 2- Lightning
Arrow- Light
Wind:
Power 1- Wind Jump (a blast of wind beneath you, launching you into the air)
Power 2- Tornado
Arrow- Wind Blast (knockback enemies)
Time:
Power 1- Slow Time
Power 2- Stop Time (constant drain of magic meter)
Arrow- Stop Target
So, if you need further explanation of those, then feel free to ask. They'll work on enemies, and during sidequests and other gameplay too. They can also be used in tandem with other items (see below).
The items and where you get them:
Slingshot- Deku Tree (Child)
Bombs- Dodongo Cavern (Child)
Boomerang- Jabu Jabu's Belly (Child)
Hero's Bow- Forest Temple (1st)
Magic Quiver- Forest Temple (2nd) [lets you use all the medallions' arrow powers)
Digging/Climbing Claws- Fire Temple (1st) [can use both to dig in certain soil, and climb certain walls/roofs]
Megaton Hammer- Fire Temple (2nd)
Magnetic Iron Boots- Water Temple (1st)
Chakram- Water Temple (2nd) [like an adult boomerang, can be used underwater, reeeally unsure about this so SUGGESTIONS please!!]
Fairy Lens- Light Temple (1st) [focuses light from light medallion]
Mirror Shield- Light Temple (2nd)
Lens of Truth- Shadow Temple (1st) [upgrade of Fairy Lens, lets you see what's not there]
Garo Robe- Shadow Temple (2nd) [oh thats right! THIS is what you use with the Shadow Mist, whenever its dark the Robe makes you invisible. Also lets you talk to ghosts]
Hookshot- Spirit Temple (Child) [can't be used by Child Link]
2nd Hookshot- Spirit Temple (1st)
Spirit Ring- Spirit Temple (2nd) [protects you from normal attacks, your Magic Meter 'becomes' your Hearts, Drains magic meter, getting hit by Magic attacks refills the meter, very unsure about this as well...]
"Changenator"- Temple of Time (1st) [we're still VERY unsure about this item (hence the ridiculous name) but essentially we were thinking it would let you change between Child and Adult Link in certain places)
Deku Leaf- Wind Temple (Child)
Roc's Cape- Wind Temple (1st) [can be used to glide, you can use it with the Wind Medallion's Wind Jump power]
Hover Boots- Wind Temple (2nd)
We'll also have a Spoils Bag, Fishing Rod and Bug Catching Net, which you'll get at various stages. As well as Bombchus of course. Deku Sticks have become Pick-up only items.
As you can see, we ran out of ideas for some of our items, so any suggestions about a better item for the Water Temple 2nd time(or even one to replace the Iron Boots!), Spirit Temple 2nd time, or both the Temple of Time (and our child portion too! any items for another item for Child Link?)
We also have new/renamed Ocarina Songs.
Minuet of the Forest = Sacred Forest Meadow
Bolero of the Mountain = Death Mountain
Serenade of the Lake = Lake Hylia
Dirge of the Necropolis = Great War Graveyard
Requiem of the Desert = Desert Colossus
Ballad of the Field = Crossroads/Middle of the Field
Waltz of the River = Zora's River
Sonata of the Swamp = Deku Palace
Elegy of the Sea = Port Town
Oath of the Castle = Hyrule Castle
And of course, Zelda's Lullaby, Epona's Song, Sun's Song, Song of Storms and our new Song of the Seasons.
The order of the temples (that you do them) is as follows-
Light, Forest, Water, Wind, Shadow, Fire, Spirit and Time
Then, after the first fight with Ganon.
Forest, then we have a 'tiered' system i.e. you can do two temples in either order. So, Fire or Wind. Then, Water or Time. Then Shadow or Spirit. Then the Light temple.
Also, the mini-boss fights the first time through, are the Possessed Sages. I.e. Light Temple you have to fight a possessed Navi! Then the second time through, you're accompanied by the Sage (think Medli/Makar in WW).
The bosses are as follows-
Deku Tree- Queen Gohma
Dodongo's Cavern- King Dodongo
Jabu Jabu's Belly- Young Morpha
Forest- Poe Sisters (Joelle, Meg, Amy, Beth)
Fire- Volvagia
Water- Morpha
Shadow- Bongo Bongo
Light- Dark Link (yup! Link's nemesis. You'll also fight him as the Miniboss in Ganon's tower both times, as well as on horseback (yep, Dark Epona!) )
Spirit- Twinrova
Wind- King Gohma (bigger, and with wings!)
As you can see, we don't have an idea for the boss of the Temple of Time (ironic, because its our temple which we've based after the 'typical temple design' unlike the rest of them, and we're the most stuck for it!). We'd rather not have suggestions based on old bosses, as we've already looked, unless you have some awesome, time inspired idea for the boss fight!
As for Equipment, I briefly mentioned the Tunics, but for more indepth information about them. Our idea was that you'd need to change tunics depending on who you were fighting, so it wouldn't be so much 'oh, i'm going into water, time to wear my Zora Tunic'.
Kokiri Tunic, obviously standard, no positive or negative effects, normal speed, start the Game with it.
Goron Tunic, Survive in Heat, No Fall Damage, take less damage from melee, but more from magic, move slow, buy from Goron City.
Zora Tunic, Survive Underwater, Swim, takes less damage from magic, but more from ranged, move slow, buy from Zora's Domain.
Gerudo Tunic, Survive in Desert, Wall Jump, Agile, less damage from ranged, but more from melee, move fast, buy from Port Town.
Shiekah Tunic, Sneak into Shadows, See in Dark, Run Fast, takes more damage from everything (the point being, that you can dodge. its more focused on stealth than combat) move fast, hidden - must get after beating Ganon, from the Sheikah Citadel. Also autoequips the following (Dual Daggers) (Arm Bracers) and (Pegasus Boots)
Hylian Knight's Tunic, Take less damage, takes less damage from everything, normal speed, also hidden - get it after you defeat Ganon, hidden in the Sacred Grove. Autoequips the following (Knight's Sword) (Tower Shield) and (Knight's boots)
I'll post up more in the future, such as the Knights of Hyrule, and Sheik's part. Feel free to ask questions, and ask for more information. And suggestions are welcome, but flames are NOT! Thankyou for reading all of this!!!
Now, to address your comments!
The 'chain' and 'needles' in SSBM for Sheik, we are using both of them, they are the 'chain hook' (its essentially the same thing, with more of a 'grappling hook' feature, so it can be used similarly to the hookshot but for Sheik) and 'shuriken' is actually the proper term for her needles. There will be needle-shuriken, star-shuriken and exploding-shuriken.
And I originally wanted to give Link the magic carpet, I just fell in love with the idea. But my brother insisted that he had enough items and Epona, to move around quickly/glide over things, so he compromised and let me give it to Sheik. We're unsure whether she'll have a horse of her own, but either way, think of it like a 'Spinner' that you can use anywhere.
Of course you'll be able to explore Hyrule Castle :) We want it to be full of useless rooms with servants, maids, etc. There'll even be a barracks with Hylian guards next door. And the usual courtyard of course. Then Ganon's castle will change it completely of course, then once Ganon's defeated the Castle will be rebuilt!
Also, when I said Ganondorf isn't killed, thats only the first time! This is very spoilerish, but seeing as the game isn't going to be made, the idea was that you think you've killed him. Then he revives, cause he's unsealed. And resurrects all the bosses (and temples will be different too! Not the same thing twice, but new puzzles). So then after you get the second medallion powers (you'll make a chain for the medallion from the remains of the boss, and seal the boss away in the medallions (my brother suggested that this means you can refight the bosses whenever you want, by releasing them from the medallion!) ) then you defeat Ganon a second time and seal him away!
Oh, I think I worded that badly, with the Mountains and Castle Town. Basically, there's the Zora River and the drawbridge, then in this field there's Castle Town surrounded on the NORTH (and west and east) by mountains. So they're like.. defensive, so it has mountains around three sides, and a river to the south.
And the reason for moving Kakariko was because, for one thing, OoT's original map was too top heavy, we've expanded down South and West so much more. The other reason was, during the Great War, we didn't think it was plausible to have the Sheikah living at the bottom of Death Mountain! (i think these were all our reasons at least), also, the Graveyard is now huge, and its in the South at the bottom of the mountain range (wish i could show you a map!) infact the whole South area is a kind of desolate... plains, (think Ikana Valley/Canyon in MM) and Kakariko just fit there very well. Also, it made more sense to have it near the Sheikah Citadel (there's a secret tunnel from Kakariko up to the Citadel). So as much as I originally regretted moving it, it just seemed to fit.
And yes, I actually based the Deku Palace and Swamp off of MM. I brought in the Ocean, Snowpeak, Swamp and 'Ikana Valley'- like areas. They're most of the expansion of Hyrule. Besides, I liked the Deku Palace in MM :P
Okay, I found my sketch of the map, and a picture of Roc (and yes, he's an oddity among the Deku, and he was inspired by Roc the unnamed (we assume he's a bird, but I'm establishing otherwise) who made the Feather, Cape and Boots. He's a strange Deku who's suited to climbing, and makes himself a cape for gliding, which Link later gets).
Okay, so here's the map. Its very bad I know, my wonderful coloured version was corrupted and I was too sad to remake it at the time. The crazy little symbols all mean different things. The yellow Triforces are the warp points for the songs. The horses are the stables. The orange I's are the Inns (yes, we have a bunch of inns). The red 'cross-like' things are actually swords, they're the master swordsman you learn sword techniques from. And the crazy little demon-heads are the dungeons. Fluro pink is Adult Link, green is Child Link and aqua is Sheik. the Map (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v363/ria_baalinda/MapofHyrule.jpg)
And here's Roc, partly coloured. Roc (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v363/ria_baalinda/Roc-halfcoloured.jpg)The design is veeery rough, he's a strange Deku eh?
Anyway, we did remember that the Temple of Light was in the Sacred Realm, thats why you need to get to it through the Temple of Time. Its a ... dimensionally weird Temple. With plenty of strange upside-down, twisted, crazy rooms. And its been corrupted by shadows (from Dark Link) which you purge as you go through the Temple.
Also, our Temple of Wind is probably our favourite Temple of them all. Its inspired by the City in the Sky in TP (probably one of my favourite temples of that game), basically a series of platforms and small open-rooved rooms, plenty of wind. And you need Roc's cape to get around easily, as well as double hookshots, hover boots, and your wind medallion powers later on. Our boss battle for King Gohma (we came up with 5 strategies for bosses so far) is also immensely awesome and fun sounding!
Anyway, thankyou for being so supportive and offering suggestions!! I'm so happy that you like our ideas. Any suggestions for more items, or a boss for our Temple of Time, would be much appreciated!!

One question, how do you plan on designing this game?
Well, honestly? We don't. I think the only way we'd ever be satisfied with it would be if it was made properly, on the Wii or the next next gen console, and was made by Nintendo. And seeing as thats probably neeever going to happen (though, seeing as my brother and I are going to be game designers with our own company anyway, I still have some fangirl-ish hope that someday our company can work together with Nintendo on this) but really? Its probably not going to happen.
We're just creating it cause its damn fun! :D Thinking up ideas, especially about a game we loved as much as OoT, is just something we do in our spare time. This just happens to be an idea we've spent many many hours thinking up things for :P

Well thats cool, uhm how old are you btw? Not to burst your bubble, but you will need to know how to design games and know how to run a business before making claims of a business. I used to do the same thing...write up ideas for 'addons' to already made Zelda games and custom games, but reality sadly kicked in. However Iam in the very slow process of designing a Zelda game, I just need to comprehend this programming language much better to even continue with it.

You spend all that time planning out this game...but you're not even gonna make it...
You should learn GameMaker Code and purchase GameMaker Pro.
Yeah, I could always make it myself, but copyright issues and all that, if it was going to be made I'd want it to be properly in full 3d and such.
Hahahah, and I know I need to learn how to make games and run a business first! I'm finishing high school in the next 6 months, so its not like I haven't planned what I want to do with the rest of my life and am just going 'oho! i'll totally be a games designer' without having seriously looked into it first. Buuut thats going very off-topic!

LOL yeah, but they get those exact emails hundreds of times a day Im sure. Their best route would be finding a good team of programmers that need game/story writers. I know of a certain group or two working plenty on OoT remakes.
As Avenged said, I think Nintendo get enough emails everyday, they probably wouldn't bother to read mine. Like I said, they're just ideas, I thought some other Zelda fans would appreciate hearing my ideas, and contributing suggestions, thats all.

Okay, firstly, the Medallion powers.
Forest:
Power 1- Plant Growth
Power 2- Healing (yourself and others, needs light)
Arrow- Entangle
Fire:
Power 1- Fire Whip/Swipe
Power 2- Din's Fire
Arrow- Burn
Water:
Power 1- Freeze/Douse (and when underwater, can somewhatcontrol water)
Power 2- Water Walking
Arrow- Freeze
Shadow:
Power 1- Shadow Mist/Turn to Shadow (to be honest, i forget exactly what this does (its been months since we made these up) i think it was something like, you create a shadowy mist which means that Link can turn into a shadow and go under things like doors, etc)
Power 2- Banish (a Demi hand reaches out of the ground and pulls enemies)
Arrow- Shadow (think a dark version of the Light Arrows!)
Spirit:
Power 1- Telekinesis (can lift up objects, such as trees, boulders, etc)
Power 2- Earthquake
Arrow- Petrify
Light:
Power 1- Glow/Light Up
Power 2- Lightning
Arrow- Light
Wind:
Power 1- Wind Jump (a blast of wind beneath you, launching you into the air)
Power 2- Tornado
Arrow- Wind Blast (knockback enemies)
Time:
Power 1- Slow Time
Power 2- Stop Time (constant drain of magic meter)
Arrow- Stop Target
Very good! This would be excellent gameplay.
How do you plan on beating Volvagia without the Megaton Hammer? As for the Changenator, why not convert it into an Ocarina song that makes Link age or de-age? The inscription for the song could be hidded in the dungeon.
We'll also have a Spoils Bag, Fishing Rod and Bug Catching Net, which you'll get at various stages. As well as Bombchus of course. Deku Sticks have become Pick-up only items.
I loved commiting ChuChu genocide in TWW for potions, so I think a returning Spoils Bag would be welcome.
As you can see, we ran out of ideas for some of our items, so any suggestions about a better item for the Water Temple 2nd time(or even one to replace the Iron Boots!), Spirit Temple 2nd time, or both the Temple of Time (and our child portion too! any items for another item for Child Link?)
An item for Young Link? How about a small axe or something?
We also have new/renamed Ocarina Songs.
Minuet of the Forest = Sacred Forest Meadow
Bolero of the Mountain = Death Mountain
Serenade of the Lake = Lake Hylia
Dirge of the Necropolis = Great War Graveyard
Requiem of the Desert = Desert Colossus
Ballad of the Field = Crossroads/Middle of the Field
Waltz of the River = Zora's River
Sonata of the Swamp = Deku Palace
Elegy of the Sea = Port Town
Oath of the Castle = Hyrule Castle
And of course, Zelda's Lullaby, Epona's Song, Sun's Song, Song of Storms and our new Song of the Seasons.
No objections.
I like the posessed Sages idea. A lot.
The bosses are as follows-
Deku Tree- Queen Gohma
Dodongo's Cavern- King Dodongo
Jabu Jabu's Belly- Young Morpha
Forest- Poe Sisters (Joelle, Meg, Amy, Beth)
Fire- Volvagia
Water- Morpha
Shadow- Bongo Bongo
Light- Dark Link (yup! Link's nemesis. You'll also fight him as the Miniboss in Ganon's tower both times, as well as on horseback (yep, Dark Epona!) )
Spirit- Twinrova
Wind- King Gohma (bigger, and with wings!)
As you can see, we don't have an idea for the boss of the Temple of Time (ironic, because its our temple which we've based after the 'typical temple design' unlike the rest of them, and we're the most stuck for it!). We'd rather not have suggestions based on old bosses, as we've already looked, unless you have some awesome, time inspired idea for the boss fight!
What was wrong with Phantom Ganon? Could he be your missing boss?
I like the idea of tunics for each race. Though I suggest that the Knight's Sword be less powerful than the Master Sword, just so you don't have an uber pwnz outfit. Also, I think Young Link deserves some more tunics as well.
I'll post up more in the future, such as the Knights of Hyrule, and Sheik's part. Feel free to ask questions, and ask for more information. And suggestions are welcome, but flames are NOT! Thankyou for reading all of this!!!
Why would I want to flame you? This is a fantastic project.
Good thing! I like the sound of exploding shuriken.
Why not give Sheik the horse she and Impa fled Castle Town on?
Of course you'll be able to explore Hyrule Castle :) We want it to be full of useless rooms with servants, maids, etc. There'll even be a barracks with Hylian guards next door. And the usual courtyard of course. Then Ganon's castle will change it completely of course, then once Ganon's defeated the Castle will be rebuilt!
Do I smell an opportunity for some trading sequences in the Castle? Or some swordplay lessons from the soldiers? This sounds like fun.
Even better. Your brother's idea pleases me.
Ah. That makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.
That explanation is good enough for me.
And yes, I actually based the Deku Palace and Swamp off of MM. I brought in the Ocean, Snowpeak, Swamp and 'Ikana Valley'- like areas. They're most of the expansion of Hyrule. Besides, I liked the Deku Palace in MM :P
Fair enough. Termina is meant to be parallel, so why not?
You certainly have put a lot of work in, haven't you? I like the idea of inns. Perhaps Sheik and Link could take a page out of Paper Mario's book and find Inn Coupons for free visits?
Anyway, we did remember that the Temple of Light was in the Sacred Realm, thats why you need to get to it through the Temple of Time. Its a ... dimensionally weird Temple. With plenty of strange upside-down, twisted, crazy rooms. And its been corrupted by shadows (from Dark Link) which you purge as you go through the Temple.
A mix of Stone Tower and Palace of Twilight? Sounds great!
Nothing's better than a fun boss. Sounds a bit like the Palace of Winds from The Minish Cap too.
Anyway, thankyou for being so supportive and offering suggestions!! I'm so happy that you like our ideas. Any suggestions for more items, or a boss for our Temple of Time, would be much appreciated!!
You're welcome. I know you said you'd rather not have older items, but consider the Magnetic Gloves from Oracle of Seasons. They were always good for puzzles.

Jirrup, this is no project, more of a fan fiction. But this person does write good aspects, they only need to find some real programmers to help them get to the next level.
I prefer to think of it as a game design, even though it won't be made, that doesn't make it any less of a game. I'm not writing a story, I'm designing a game. And as I said before, the only way I'd truly do my idea justice is to have it officially made by Nintendo. A fan project would simply be impossible for me and my brother to do all ourselves, mostly because of the massive scale of our ideas. Besides, even if I came here offering many ideas for a fanfic, then never wrote that fanfic, does that make my ideas or my desire for input and suggestions any less valid?
Thanks for all your support/suggestions Jirrup! Now, to address some of your... queries.
The reason we moved Phantom Ganon was that personally we felt he didn't exactly fit in the Forest Temple, and also because we were inspired by the Phantoms of PH and thought they'd be a much more formidable opponent roaming Hyrule Field! They could almost be considered spontaneous Mini Bosses. Our idea is that Hyrule Field is much, much more dangerous place after Ganondorf takes over. There are swarms of monsters and thieves, and the paths are patrolled occassionally by Phanton Ganondorf's on horseback!
I also had a suggestion from the other forum for the Temple of Time boss, which we actually quite like, but I'm interested to see what you think. Basically, almost as soon as you enter the Temple, you encounter the boss! Throughout the rest of the Temple he 'stalks' you and you have many encounters with him, until eventually you get to the boss room and finally gain the item you need to defeat him. We're unsure about the format exactly, but we like the idea of an unusual format such as the boss 'chasing' you through the temple. We also were considering that the boss, at this stage (of our thinking) a Dark Nut, could ride on a huge dragon, which could even go back through time. So you'd be having a sword duel and trying to stay on the dragon flying over Hyrule during the Great War era. And eventually you'd kill the Dark Nut and the dragon, and its remains would become a skeleton which you'd passed many times in Hyrule Field. Of course, this idea is still in very preliminary stages.
As for the Megaton Hammer. We've done away altogether with the 'whack-a-mole' Volvagia fight. We still haven't written out our strategy for Volvagia yet, though you'll be using the Digging claws to follow it through the tunnels that IT'S digging through... well thats the basic gist of our idea so far at least.
Oh, and I looove the idea of Inn coupons! They'd be a perfect reward for side quests. More about the inns, if you're interested. Basically there are three types of suites. The first replenishes basic health and magic meter. The second does the same as the first, plus a temporary defense boost. The third does the same as the second, plus a temporary attack boost. We figured, with Hyrule being such a dangerous place to travel in, we'd need frequent inns. Especially at night, its even more dangerous to travel then!
If we give Sheik a horse, that'd probably be the one. Or she'd get her own from the Sheikah. We also want there to be wild horses roaming the fields. As well as various species of goat (around Forest Town, the Mountains, and a woolly variety in Snowpeak) and boars in the west.
I love the idea of an Ocarina song for the de-ager!!! Thats brilliant, I'm definitely suggesting it to my brother. Oh, and our boss battles so far use many more items that just the one you get in the temple. The least amount of items was the Temple of Light (the first) cause all you HAVE is Bombs and the Fairy Lens! The others had more, and we even got up to 7 items/medallion powers in one boss fight! And besides, we'll definitely use the Megaton Hammer in the second boss fight with Volvagia!
And we actually have been pondering an axe as an item, but I wasn't sure of its usefulness in dungeons. Also, we were both really pleased to add Spoils as well! Now there'll be plenty of spoils to collect from enemies. As well as dozens of different bugs and fish to catch, and plenty of rupee to get from the people who ask you to collect things for them!
And sidequests! Yes! With all our towns, and so many people and buildings in each, we have sooo much potential for sidequests its amazing really! As for sword techniques, there are secret swordmasters hidden away throughout Hyrule (well, you can see the map, so its not so hidden now!) to learn all the best techniques from. But I'm sure as child link, there'll be plenty of oppurtunity for sparring with Hylian guardsmen!
And yes, we've been pondering tunics for Young Link... still not sure though. And we're trying to keep our tunics balanced. But the Sheikah and Hylian tunics can only be obtained by completing bonus dungeons after you've beaten Ganon the second time, so a little bit of pwnage isn't too bad a thing. :P

"even though it won't be made, that doesn't make it any less of a game"
Yes, yes it does. But huh, good luck with that.
But I say why not try and learn some things that involves game design now? I messed around with QBasic in High School and now Im learning a C++ like language. It's very helpful that I experienced designing very small games and programs with qbasic compared to my new challenge.
Yes writing the games 'map' and aspects is a decent start, but follow up on it. Even Nintendo built an engine before actually designing the game itself. Im just saying it wouldnt hurt to take some courses for programming.
Who says it needs to be 3D right away, take all these aspects of yours and work your way through a 2d quest.
I have other game projects I've been working on, as clearly I can't start my own company based on someone else's ideas. Thats why I'm not going to pursue making this into a game, I don't want it to be 2d, I have other ideas I can work into actual games. But thankyou for your interest in my future career :P
However its hardly relevant to the thread. This is the design for a game, a game that isn't going to be made in the immediate future, and I'd appreciate it if you stopped hassling me about it. If other people can take it for what it is, and actually contribute ideas and suggestions, or criticisms, then you can too. So please, stop criticising the fact that its not being made into a game, and criticise the ideas themselves if you're going to criticise anything. Or actually contribute some ideas to this 'game design' or whatever you choose to call it.

Look, we have a specific place for just this purpose. Its called the Hylian Creations (which isnt on ZD anymore, but on my site). You create your own game aspects without actually designing the game itself, maybe you should look into that fan area.

Or not...
Want a decent, free 3D RPG maker? Google search "RPGmaker 3D" and look for a download of the same title
It's reletivly easy to use, boosts that anyone from the most computer savvy (geeks) to the total newb of computers (jocks) can use and enjoy it. Make sure you have a decent Graphics card (virtual will do) or a decent processor (Nothing below Pentium II), or you won't be able to do so much as create a field.
Don't have good processor or don't trust strange sites? look into SketchUP made by Google. It's graphics aren't the best untill you really get into it, but it will let you design temples and create screen shots to post.
Want all the Charecter files from TP? Google search "Midna.3ds" and look for the link that mentions "Facepunch Studios". It should be the first link. click on it, after that, scroll down to :Model pack one.
Download both Model packs, go to 3d editing mache of your choice, go to: 'import'-
'.3ds'-
'folder/drive'-
'Model pack #'-
'Model'
Where folder/drive is where you stored the Model Packs.
Thank you, have a nice day, and please come again.

yes, but if it's not on this site, and you have to post on a different site, then members of this site can't read the post, now can they.
What I reccomend would be to put the forum from that site, onto this site, so that the admin can have all their ducks in a row and the people of ZD can read the posts of ZD.

RPGmaker recently made a 3d version for the PS2. It's called RPGmaker III
I have the PC versions.
Though I admit, I should have specified that the 3D version was for the PS2.
Though currently it only allows you to use the preset charecters and items, I'm pretty sure you can find mods for the game to let you import you're own files

RPG makers are a horrendous way to make this game. (actually, they could be great for a 2d Zelda, but a decent 3D one's not happening, period.)
There are much better game makers out there that could be used for a 3d zelda.
I think you can actually make the whole game without programming at all, instead just using a simple command scripting system that's just simple enough to allow a non-programmer to learn how to use in their spare time.
reality factory and Lite-C are two 3D(and I mean good 3D, you could make a twilight princess quality zelda with this stuff) free-download-off-the-site game makers that use scripting, without any real programming. You use variables, which are just numbers, and simple commands, like for adding gravity to your game, you type in the single command for gravity, and put in a number that shows ho wstrong you want the gravity. Boom, you have gravity. Other things are already setup by default for you.

I actually think this would be a good idea. I mean it wouldnt be the same OoT, but it would be cooler and hopefully more challenging. Im yet to be challenged in any Zelda game ive ever played. But i enjoy the series. Keep expanding on this Idea. Who knows, myab the Zelda co. will buy the idea off you. Weirder things have happened.
