I can't really say right now, because I've beaten MC and PH but I'm playing OOA, OOS, and LA DX right now. I must say, the difficulty of the Oracle games and LA is what I like much better than the easier games.

The original Link's Awakening (black and white, not the DX). The story really moved me during my first playthrough, and it was a challenging game compared to a number of other Zelda games. Plus, it was the first Zelda game to introduce the ocarina, using its actual title unlike A Link to the Past's flute. Anyway, this game is probably the best Zelda handheld. It was created during the golden age of gaming, after all.
On a side note, I'm really disappointed with the lack of popularity of not only Link's Awakening, but the other handheld titles, minus Phantom Hourglass.

If we don't count ports(ALttP for GBA as well as LoZ and AoL), then, my favorite is Link's Awakening(DX or not, I have both, so xD) followed by Oracle of Ages.
If we're counting the ports, then it's ALttP followed by LA

My favourite is a tie between OoA and OoS, they're both just really great to me. I loved the time traveling in Ages, not to mention the difficulty of the puzzles. Seasons was a nice change of pace from Ages and it felt like a different game, so it kept me playing after beating Ages.

Of course, Link's Awakening comes up next for a few reasons. I just found it to be really fun. I loved the characters and concept of it. Of course, nostalgia also helps a lot in deciding this, but I found it to be really great regardless.

Probably not the best of reasons why I like the games, but I had never thought of why they were my favourites before. I also didn't include Minish Cap because I haven't really felt as though I've played enough to consider it one.

Well. It's a very, very close tie between Link's Awakening and Oracle of Ages. I love both of the games for their own reasons, and it's really hard to decide. But, I suppose if I HAD to choose between the two. I'd choose Link's Awakening. It has to be the DX version however, as the black and white gives me terrible headaches and nausea. Oracle of Ages was much better difficulty wise. The puzzles could be very... puzzling. But Link's Awakening had a much better overworld, and the dungeons were more interesting. OoA's dungeons felt kind of bland and the same. To be very honest, I've seen much better and more creative dungeons in Zelda Classic games, using the same graphics.

So, yeah. If I had to choose, it would be LA DX, because it's slightly more fun. But really, it's a very close tie between the two.

Link's Awakening DX, then...
Oracle of Ages, then...
The Minish Cap

Also I think this belongs in Zelda favorites.

I never played any Zeldas (or games at all for that matter) during the 90´s and I guess that could be the reason that I can´t seem to appreciate Link´s Awakening as much as it seems to deserve (looking at gamers and reviewers comments about the game). I´m much more fond of Oracle of Ages and Seasons, they are similar to LA but I find them a lot more interesting and entertaining, they are some of the best 2D games I´ve ever played and I´m delighted to have them in my collection :)

(Ages & Seasons are the best in my opinion, Spirit Tracks is number three for me at this point)

Link's Awakening. It was actually my first Zelda game and I remember being shocked when I began to realize that the people and the island were all part of a dream and would disappear once I finished the game. At the time, it struck me as a very dark concept for a video game, especially because of the fact that the characters had become so endearing and memorable.

LA all the way. I find it extremely charming, and while it may have been a step down compared to ALttP in most people's minds, I do put it ahead of the SNES giant. I loved how the overworld was more maze-like, and how you'd have to actually hunt for a while to find a path to the place you had to go. I also loved the characters, even though, like most Zelda games, they were extremely simplistic. It was all part of the charm that I mentioned above though, especially the Link/Marin thing that was pretty obvious. The plot, while lacking mainly because it was just a GB game, was pretty good as well. Just collect a bunch of instruments and take them to giant egg so you can leave the island; now THAT'S original, and modern Zelda games seem to lack an original plot. And then how could one forget the music? Just like everything else, it was simplistic, but I still found it enjoyable. Ballad of the Windfish stands out the most of course, but Animal Village stuck in my mind too.

I guess you could put OoA as second, but I don't play that one nearly as often as LA. I might put ST as a very distant third too, but that just might be because I'm still in awe over the amazing music it had.

Mine is Minish Cap. I like the idea of litle picori, kinstone fusion, and figurines.

Well... out of the one's I've played (ST, PH, and MC) I'd say my rankings go like this:

No. 1: Spirit Tracks

Yep ST goes first as my favorite handheld Zelda game and my favorite Zelda game in all. Why? Because the story is pretty good what with the whole BS and how Byrne is actually Anjean's former apprentice who got corrupted by wanting power and stuff. Secondly I loved the gameplay; it just had so much charm with Phantom Zelda, the dungeons, the puzzles and stuff like that.

No. 2: Minish Cap

Okay so my second favorite is Minish Cap. I like it because well it's truly 2-D which is something I like in a Zelda game, the story is decent, and I simply like the gameplay.

No. 3 Phantom Hourglass

Yeah I didn't like PH that much. The story was bland, the gameplay was good admittedly, but it just doesn't really interest me that much.

I haven't finished Spirit Tracks yet (almost, though!), so I'm not gonna include it at the time...

My number one would be Link's Awakening DX. It's such a hard and fun game. I loved the story a lot. So much confusion in it. :P I actually liked the gameplay on it. Nice and simple. The trading quest was tricky. I was always able to keep up with it though. Right when I get the chance I do all I can do with the sidequest. x3

My number two would be Phantom Hourglass. It was cool being able to travel around by boat again. I always shot the seagulls while waiting to get to the island I was heading to. The story was amazing. I just loved it. And the characters were so unique. :3

...I would also post about The Minish Cap, but...I haven't been able to finish it. =(

I'm really liking The Minish Cap while I also like the idea of the Oracle games. So any of those.

The Oracle series are definitely my favorite handheld Zelda titles. The difficulty of those two games was perfect and there was a lot to do and a lot to explore. Those are the types of games that need to be made for DS. I would totally give up the 2D 1/2 of PH and ST to go back to the way they used to make handheld games. Don't get me wrong, I love PH and I especially loved ST, but there's just something missing from the new games that made the old games amazing.

Well i thought that they were all good but if i have to rank them i would out them in the following order:
1. OoA - I loved the changing between past and present to solve lots of puzzles. The difficulty of the game was good, and it has my favourite dungeon of all time in it - Mermaids Cave. I also liked the part when you first meet the Tokay and they steal all your items and you have to go around the island retrieving them.
2. MC - This to me was good because of the ideas on it. The Minish people, Kinstones and the plot as a whole. It interested me in the way Vaati came to be his villianous self, and speaking of Vaati, he was the main antagonist not Ganondorf (not that I dont like Ganondorf being the main villian).
3. LA - I prefer the DX version of it for the simple reason i prefer colour. This was the first handheld game made and it was great. The exploration was great and the twist you learn as the game progresses that everyone will disappear (I think the first mention of it is after defeating the 5th dungeon Catfish Maw) was a great addition and you start to fell OMG i cant believe everyone going to disappear! As well as this the whole plot as a whole was good and it gave us the gameplay for the future handheld game (which i prefer to that of PH and ST)
4. OoS - Eventhough i really enjoyed this game i placed it below LA due to the fact that the main thing on this game is controlling seasons. I just thought it was a bit of a let down due to the standard of its partner game OoA.
5. PH - To be honest I thought the DS games were no where near as good as the other hadheld games. I thought that the lack of exploration limited this game completely, even though it was good.
6. ST - yes I have put ST last for the simple reason that it was BORING!!! I just got fed up with the train after the first few times riding it. And the exploration was limited even more on this game with you only being able to stop at stations, most of which were villages.

The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap.

It has great gameplay, graphics, a good user-friendly fell to it, and above all, the puzzles were amazingly hard enough for me to try. :3
