What specifically did or didn't you like about the Temple of the Ocean King. I know the majority of people here didn't enjoy it very much, but specifically what didn't you enjoy. And if you did enjoy it, what made it interesting for you?

For me, I rather enjoyed it. It brought a great stealth element to the Zelda series that isn't seen very often. It was great fun to time running between safe zones, and deciding jsut exactly where one of the safe zone pots should be broken in order to make it useful.

I also enjoyed returning there in order to try and get a better time for the next return. Once the return point so you could skip the first part of the temple was created, I actually went back a couple of times to try and improve my time. With faster and faster runs through the Temple, and with picking up time bonuses, I think I got it down to only 48 seconds removed from the Hourglass.

I also really enjoyed going back through the Temple once I had the Phantom Sword. The Phantoms were no match for me then, and it was a real blast to slice them down after they caused me so much trouble before. I pruposely attacked each and every Phantom I could, and was suitably rewarded for my troubles as well! :)

So, SPECIFICALLY what did or didn't you enjoy about the Temple of the Ocean King. I don't want to see one sentence answers saying "It was horrible!" since I know most people didn't like it.

I actually liked the Temple. When I played through PH, I got hooked on collecting ship parts, and killing all the phantoms in the temple rewards you with a boatload (no pun intended) of parts

i was half and half on this dungeon mostly because of not getting the phantom sword earlier and the levels getting very frustrating

I hated the Temple of the Ocean king to being with, I dont know why, I just saw it as pointless and frustrating and I didn't understand at all. I especially hated the first run through where you lose hearts instead of time in your hourglass, that was horrible!

However, as the game progressed, I started to really love this temple. I thought it was unique and exciting. There was nothing even remotely similar I had ever played before. I found myself looking forward to exploring the new levels in the temple and I loved, the puzzle in which you had to put the two screens of the DS together. I thought that was so clever and one of the most epic moments of the whole game.

I say one of the most, because that nowhere near topped the fun I got with running through the temple destroying and killing the crap out of all the phantoms. Not only did it reward me with treasures and boat pieces, but great satisfaction. I LOVED TO WATCH THEM DIE. Throughout the whole game It pissed me off that these things were un-killable to me. When they were, I revelled in it. Once I went through the entire temple and killed every single Phantom. That was a long run lol, I think it went over 20 minutes.

48 seconds Basement24? Not bad. I did it in 11 though :P. I've heard that it is possible to do it using 0 seconds though. Has anyone done this? Also the ZD guide says you get two cool rewards. I'd like to know what the rewards are, does anyone remember what they got?

I enjoyed it the first two or three trips, but four or five is REALLY pushing it in my opinion. And being on a time limit didn't help.

I enjoy it the 3rd or second time around, but after that the game just became annoying. I was sick of doing the same puzzle over and over. Nintendo could have made the puzzles different every time so it wouldn't be such a let down.

Oye chico/chica i hated the temple of the ocean king. I mean you make like 7 or 8 frickin trips there the phantoms were annoying as heck nintendo focused too much on making that temple challenging that the others were so frickin easy!!!!! If nintendo puts another main central dungeon in spirit tracks i will have crazyness!!!!!!!!!!! (yes that was fawful speak)

I hated it because you couldn't go wild and take down the Phantoms, and when you could, they were to easy. When I played the first time, I expected it to be kind of like WW Darknuts. I was disapointed. I also hated doing every floor like 3 times.

To be specific about what I didn't like about the Temple of the Ocean King, the only thing that I found annoying about it was the fact that you had to keep going into it over and over and over... etc., again. I didn't mind it the first or second time around, but after doing it repetitively, well it gets pretty annoying.

What I did like about the Temple of the Ocean King would be, in my opinion, that you didn't know what traps would be in store for you in the next level of the temple. It made it challenging to know that you wouldn't know what was around that next corner until it came and hit you. Although the reptitiveness that the temple had kinda killed it after you went in so many times (at least for the levels that you had already been in).

I really did not care much for the Temple of the Ocean King.
I really did not like the fact that you had to keep going back there.
It seemed to me that all those repeat visits to the Temple of the Ocean, were there solely for the purpose of making the game longer.

I really hope that Spirit Tracks does not have something similar to the Temple of the Ocean King.

My favorite thing to do in the TotOK was to make sure a Phantom was nearby, and then to make a loud sound and get them to come close. Sometimes I liked going right up to them and then runnning to a safe spot. Reminds me of my favorite Banjo-Kazooie pastime - ClickClock Woods as a bee, annoying the bull and flying up before it runs and hits you. I love that stuff.

I hated when they introduced more and more. I hated the noisy floor tiles, I hated those time-stealing ghosts and I hated the phantom buddies who would latch onto you and beep loudly. They even did it when the phantoms were all killed.

I personally hated the temple. I made so many mistakes, and my time would go away faster then I could even get through the temple, it was a difficult and puzzling part of the game, however, for me it was more difficult then I would have like, also the reason that I have not finished it.

What I disliked about it:
-It was a recurring theme, and you went back there after every dungeon to get a little further and obtain something else every time.
-Those Phantom Eyes (or whatever they're called). They got quite annoying after the first few times.
-Collecting the three shapes (square, ciricle, and triangle). Really lengthy, and a little frustrating.

What I liked about it:
-The Phantoms. They were just awesome.
-Short-cuts.
-The temple itself.

In my opinion, if you didn't have to go back to it quite as often (as in, not after every dungeon, but maybe every other one), it wouldn't have been nearly as bad. Those Phantom Eyes are more a personal distaste than anything else, so not much can be done there, unless they removed them entirely, which would actually take something away from the temple. I also think that the shape collection part could have been made a little easier/shorter/etc., but that's just my opinion.

My overall thoughts on it, is that it's not necessarily a bad idea, but it could have been implemented better. I mean, I liked it, but it came up too often, and was way out of the way usually.

I enjoyed the Temple of the Ocean King. I don't see the disappointing points in it. Well except if i have to say we must do it all over and over again to get a new Map. I liked it, it was a really nice puzzle game, i had fun avoiding the Phantoms and search for the key or switches. Also i love to search for the 3 shape parts. The Temple of the Ocean king was something never seen in any other Zelda games, so i liked the new idea and didn't see something stupid in it.

I have to say is disliked on thing about it and that was too repeat the same way over and over again. I thought i had to do this all the time from the beginning. Well lucky there are some checkpoints in here. I shall hate it if there aren't checkpoints. I had some problems with the last room before the ''Bellum door'', all the Phantoms in different colors are after you with three of them, the yellow or gold one was the most annoying.
As Werewolfy said the Phantom eyes are annoying too, they always got me first instead of i got them with the Boomerang.

Overall, the Temple of The Ocean King wasn't in my way. I love the puzzle's and all the other things in it, i see it as a sort of normal Dungeon and it's just in the story. The time you got with the Phantom Hourglass makes it just more challenging and i have to say that it was a real challenging place. I got stuck for a long time on the place where you have to close your DS... No i really can't say it was annoying or hate ot, i just have to say i hope something like this will return in any game. But then without the repeats, that was the only annoying thing in the game, especially the second part with the shapes. Don't know which floor it was, but i remember something about a time stealing ghost and the floor with sound. Most annoying place in the temple.

Anyway if you got the Phantom Sword it isn't so annoying anymore. And then we can find even the Golden Ship Parts.

Evil! That temple made me mad! It would have been okay, but they stick you in a huge maze! And I kept going the wrong way, and getting lost, going back to places that I was at already. I got so mad. I still have not finished that game do to that temple. I can't seem to find my way to something! But I would not say that it was the worst temple I had played, but it is very close!

Did not enjoy: The time limit when you would have to run it your first time. For me I did not have the guide so it was very difficult and frustrating.

Enjoyed: As Basement said it did bring a stealth element that not all Zelda games have. With also the puzzles were very amusing, and the ocean King Temple was waaay cool when you understood the way and could speed-run it!

At first, I really disliked this temple. I was just getting used to the way the DS adapted to the series, and using the stylus so much. After the first dungeon, (this was a while ago) I went in to the temple of the Ocean King for the first time where you have to actually get past the first floor. I had gotten to I think it was the 3rd floor, the last one you have to go through on that venture through the temple. I ended up getting killed by the Phantom right before the end. This really frustrated me. I hadn't played the game for a few months after that, which is actually really silly, I think. To put the game on hiatus after something like that.

A few months later, I decided to give the game a shot again. I made a new file, and quickly made it through the first dungeon and to that part of the game again. This time, I succeeded. I didn't think that I particularly enjoyed it going through that time. It was sort of irritating, even though it was sort of fun, with the whole stealth aspect.

After the Temple of Wind, we come back to the Temple of the Ocean King again. This was kind of a turning point for me. I started to like going through the temple for once, as the next few floors weren't too irritating but were a nice challenge and I had to think more than just the normal hack 'n slash that goes on throughout the game. I was kind of pessimistic at first when I saw the Phantom Eyes. Thought they would cause me a ton of trouble. But really, those guys were a piece of cake. It was easy to stun them with the Boomerang without getting caught and then killing them. Oh, and not to mention, the puzzle at the end of this part of the temple was pure genius. This game really took the DS' functions and put them to the max, and I liked that. I would've never guessed that you had to put the DS on sleep to press the two maps together before my brother showed me (which I now kind of wish he hadn't).

I had taken a hiatus after the Temple of Courage, once again. After a few months, I once again picked up the game (this was actually yesterday) after having gotten bored without a few months ago. Anyway, the next venture to the temple, after finishing the Ghost Ship, was very different from the previous two. The puzzles were very different, it seemed. Swift Phantoms were introduced, those odd musical floors were introduced, and it also introduced the portal at the end of the sixth floor were you could try to get to it as fast as you can, and then could use that time after returning to the beginning of the temple and returning later. When I was going through here, I made a big screw up on one of the floors and wasted 4 minutes or so on something that should've taken me about 15 seconds. I had a pretty bad time by the sixth floor, and things were getting a little interesting by the end of the ninth floor. I was left with a little under a minute left, I believe. The stealth aspect in this was very fun on these next few floors. It was fun to try and take risks, and get timing perfectly in order to progress.

After the sixth dungeon, the Temple of Ice, we once again take a venture through the Temple of the Ocean King. Because of my crappy time going through the first six floors last time, I did it again to improve, and I improved by a lot. The 10-12th floors were pretty different than what I had previously faced in the temple, and even the 7-9th floors had a few tweaks in them. Golden Phantoms were introduced, along with many new puzzles to do with Bombchu's and the Grappling Hook. I found these next few floors to actually be quite easy. That might just be me. I started to like the temple even more after these few floors. I'm impressed with how the temple is set up, and how it's a nice challenge to go through the temple and it takes quite a bit of thought, and good planning and precise timing. I once again reached the end of this portion of the temple, grabbing the Northeastern Sea Chart at the near bottom of the temple.

In the final stand, the last venture through the temple, after completing Mutoh's Temple and obtaining the Phantom Sword, things got a lot different, and a lot easier. With the Hammer and the Phantom Sword, I now had the ability to kill the Phantoms. I thought that that was pretty cool. It was also a nice break from having to do what I did in previous excursions to the temple, as it started to get frustrating even though it was fun and challenging. But going to the 12th floor again was just a breeze. On the 12th floor, when you had to fight those three groups of three Phantoms, I thought that was kind of fun. Once I had beaten the first wave of Blue Phantoms, I was standing right where a Swift Phantom spawned, and it was a pretty epic dash back to the safe zone. Overall, those Phantoms were easy, as long as I had conveniently placed the safe zone right next to the corner. I loved the room where you fought the first phase of Bellum. It made great use of the two screens of the DS, and made the fight pretty fun.

My views of the Temple of the Ocean King changed drastically throughout playing the game. Before my hiatus I hated the stinkin' temple. It really irritated me. But the past two days, when I started from the Ghost Ship and worked all the way to the end of the game, I began to like the Temple of the Ocean King. It progressively got more entertaining throughout the game, and deeper in to the temple, in my opinion, and I'm glad I gave this game a second chance after initially quitting because of my anger towards this temple.

That temple was pretty fun, not too difficult most of time (compared to the others "infiltration" scenes from OoT for example), and quite original.
But...

It's just overused. TT'
Go through it 8 times isn't funny anymore.
At least, it becomes less annoying at the end of the game because you can kill the Phantoms...

I finally made it to the point where you can skip the first three parts of the temple with the yellow portal. I don't think the dungeon is going to be so bad after all! Unfortunately, I finished this part of the dungeon with no sand left. I had almost let myself die before I remember the game actually has potions... Damn I miss bottles...

I think the temple of the ocean king was fun because of two things 1 it was timed and 2 it involved stealth and I like that in Zelda games it is in OOT, MM, and Phantom Hourglass.

There was one thing that I really disliked about the Temple of the Ocean king. That was the fact that it always tricked you. When you entered your hourglass would flip over and it would say something like '15 mins' or any time. This would make you think 'ahhh only 15 minutes :)' 1 hour later and you'd remember that you actually spend 90% of the time sitting in safe zones trying to figure out the phantom's patterns. I didn't like that because it always lulled you into the false sense of security that it would not take that long. Other then that, I enjoyed it. I still go back there sometimes now and just run through the temple for fun even though I completed the game nearly 3 months ago.

Hahaha! Yeah, I think this is the first negative point I would agree with! It neve really clicked with me at first that I wasn't being deducted for time in safe zones, even though I knew the clock had stopped. I did that exact same thing on a lunch break where I said "Oh, I have 10 minutes to spare... I think I'll give the Temple a shot..."

Some 45 minutes later I was late for returning to work. So while it's clearly shown you're not losing time, I think sometimes the hourglass flipping over screen messes with your brain if you're not thinking straight.

At the same time as this being a minor problem, I think that's another element that I did love about the Temple was that I found it to be the most engrossing part of the game. It felt tense to me, and really sucked me in. I was aware of the time being taken to complete a regular dungeon, but the thinking and planning involved in the Temple really brought me into the game more.

When I was done the segments of it and returned to the surface, I felt like I'd really accomplished something than going through the motions of dungeon puzzles I'd solved in so many other Zelda games before.

I know people are probably gunna hate me for this but the temple of the ocean king should be more like Professer layton style because that was tricky to solve more than Legend fo zelda. doing puzzles at a certain time limit not from the sand of hours otherwise you'll be dead. the puzzles should give about 45 seconds to the player and nothing if they can't figure it out in time.

I found this temple extremely frustrating. Zelda isn't a stealth game and doesn't play well as one at all, especially since you had to sneak through the same dungeon over and over again, until near the end of the game you were finally able to actually fight your way through. The repetitiveness and annoyance of going through the same dungeon again, and again, and again, and again so many times made me eventually despise the temple, I felt the repetitiveness really took away from the game as a whole.

Oh my gosh. I hated this place SO MUCH. It honestly freaked me out for a few months and I was scared to play because I didn't want to go get the fourth sea chart. I'm not joking. I almost decided to use my AR just so I could get the Phantom Sword early and not be freaked out by the Phantoms.

I HATE THE PHANTOMS WITH BURNING PASSION. :(

Yeah, I hated this place. I mean, it was cool the first few times around, but repeating almost everything...UGH. That really annoyed me. If it weren't for the little checkpoint, I would have given up and not finished the game ever. It's funny though, one time, I kept stopping in places that weren't safe zones, I barely lived, I had 3 quarters of a heart left when I finished.

I didn't care for the temple at first, because it was annoying doing all of those first floors over and over again, but once it got to the midway point, it picked up for me because things got a little more convoluted and intense. I also like standing in safe zones to swat at the phantoms (before I got the phantom sword). They look around, so confused, and it makes me laugh.
But I hate those little phantom eyes.
And when you get near the end, and you're reaching basement 1,000,000,000, it's like...come on. Who built this place?

Ugh, I hated the Temple of the Ocean King. I'd always die on one of the last floors, and it bugged me when I had to get all of the keys back and stuff. And then there's the fact of having to run from the first floor to the floor you're heading to. That took forever.. =(

I kind of found it annoying how when we defeated a boss we only got an extra two or three minutes on the clock. The fact is we only have about twelve minutes to run through all of the dungeons with tweleve minutes and that just became rather annoying.
Phantom hourglass is my favourite NDS game but i think it could have been better in The temple of the ocean king if they changed it around more :(

I really liked it because it was really challenging but I only liked the part where you had all the items and the Phantom Sword. I also liked it because I had to be 'Super Sneaky Link'. I got that phrase from 'Nevet 1212' on his Wind Waker abridged videos. I liked being sneaky but there were parts where you can call me a wimp, but there were parts that I was nervous of because I didn't want to get hit by a Phantom. But the thing is, The Temple of the Ocean King is the hardest dugeon in the series because it was timed and had the Phantoms that could kill in just one hit. I don't know if TTotOK is easier than the Tower of Spirits. But I HATED the fact that the TotOK was harder than the other dungeons. Bellum was as easy as a normal boss in the Zelda series.

At first the temple was okay.
But after I'd revisited it and replayed all the levels who knows how many times it started to get on my nerves.
I put PH down for weeks because of that temple.

But it was a pretty fun temple, and who doesn't dis-like the phantoms.
