uh... in the very beginning of the game, idk how to get the key from the rat. i know, pathetic, im not as smart as my brother was when he figured out all the stuff for these games so, ya... help

Well you only get a key from a Rat in Phantom Hourglass...so I'll assume you're talking about that game.

if you mean "a link to the past"

then you must simply just kill the rat, then it pop up out of it

If it's Phantom Hourglass you have to push the block on the rats left cave enterence then make him pop out of the other enterence and you will then easily get an oppertunity to kill it. If you thought that was tricky, heh, there are harder parts throughout the game.
