View Full Version : Rank The Zelda Games

Sure there already is a topic for your favorite Zelda game but this will be a bit different. Instead of just listing your favorite or favorites, rank the entire series! Also include a short sentence within it. Although I will not be ranking what I consider 'side games' or unofficial games. (Four Swords, the CD-I Zelda's, BS Zelda)
1) Link to the Past - What can you not say about this game? Amazing music, tons of dungeons, variety of items and enemies, etc... Was the first Zelda game I played extensively. Favorite game of all time.
2) Legend of Zelda - The most open of any of the Zelda games. (Heck, you can get to almost any spot in the overworld without even getting a single item or weapon.) The first Zelda game I played (although I didn't know it was Zelda at the time :)) Long game, great music, and the start of the Legend.
3) Oracle of Ages - Time travel, tons of dungeons, massive overworld, and a huge inventory. All the great elements of a 2d Zelda title. (My first handheld Zelda title)
4) Minish Cap - This brought me back when playing it. The variety of items was great, music was nice, and the size transformations led to interesting gameplay. Great Game! Just a tad short for my ultimate liking.
5) Ocarina of Time - Link's first 3d adventure. Great gameplay, amazing storyline, variety of dungeons, and pretty decent music.
6) Phantom Hourglass - This game was absolutely brilliant. The gameplay was awesome, and it brings the classic Zelda out of me. The only reason it is not higher is because the limited inventory. Linebeck was awesome.
7) Adventure of Link - Side scrolling? Who cares! This game was great. Really hard but really fun.
8) Twilight Princess - Tons of dungeons and a pretty big inventory (which if you haven't picked up yet, that is what is most important to me). Storyline could have been better, but Midna was an amazing sidekick.
9) Wind Waker - I think there was to many unecessary things in the game and the inventory could have been better. The best graphiced Zelda game hands down in my opinion. The environments are just so beautiful.
10) Oracle of Seasons - Just didn't get the love that Ages got for some reason. I played Ages first and it was just longer with the dungeons and just overall, more fun. Still Zelda though but I'd appreciate it more if it didn't release at the same time as Ages.
11) Majora's Mask - The later dungeons were a bit hard for my liking. Inventory could have been better as I wasn't a huge fan of the mask collection. Limited dungeons wasn't that great. Storyline was good though. The sidequests make this game shine and I enjoyed collecting all the items/hearts/masks and filling the bombers notebook. In fact, I enjoyed this more than I did playing the actual main quest.
12) Link's Awakening - Played it after the Oracle Series and one of the few Zelda's I have yet to beat. I loved it thus far, but I can't quite put it up there until I've finished it.

I'll just copy and paste what I said in the last thread:
1. A Link to the Past (SNES) - I grew up on this game and gave played it more times than any other Zelda game. It has somewhat of a sentimental value to me, and is just an amazing game.
2. The Legend of Zelda (NES) - The classic. It is what started it all, and was the best title for the NES in many people's opinions.
3. Ocarina of Time (N64) - Like Link to the past, it also holds some sentimental value. Seeing Zelda made as a 3D game for the first time was very exciting, and Ocarina of Time was a huge game.
3. Wind Waker (GC) - I loved the Wind Waker. It had more of an "adventure" feel than any other Zelda game, in my opinion. I really liked how lengthy it was, and how vast the Great Sea is. So much to explore in Wind Waker.
4. Link's Awakening (GB) - My favorite game boy title out there. I simply like it.
4. Phantom Hourglass (DS) - I really liked Phantom Hourglass. Although it was too short (sorta) and much too easy for my liking, it was a very fun game. I thought the controls would be weird, and I must say I doubted them a lot at first, but they were very very easy to get used to.
5. Adventure of Link (NES) - I really like this game as well. It's really weird to put it so low on the list, because I always talk about it. Even though it was different, it was a lot of fun.. well more hard work. But the end result of completing it on my own, without any help, felt awesome.
6. Minish Cap (GBA) - The Minish Cap was a good game, but at the time of its release I wasn't into Zelda as much. It didn't feel as classic as the previous games I loved, but after playing through it again, it's not bad at all. I'm starting to like it more, actually.
7. Oracle of Ages/Seasons (GBC) - I liked these games, but never got into them much after beating them my first time. They are probably the most overlooked Zelda title out there, but they are undoubtedly great Zelda games.
8. Majora's Mask (N64) - Majora's Mask was actually the first Zelda game I owned. I got Majora's Mask BEFORE Ocarina of Time, but I was too young back then to know better. Besides, it was a present anyway. I beat it within a month or so, and it was great at the time, but comparing it to the others in the Zelda series, it just seems to lack something, or perhaps have more of something I don't like.
Yes, I know I listed "3" and "4" twice, but those are considered ties. Some of them are just too close to pick one over the other. For example.. if I were to rate them on a scale from 1-10, Wind Waker would get a 9.9 and Link's Awakening would get a 9.85 or something.
I realize I skipped a few. I didn't include spin-off games or Twilight Princess, since I still have to get it for the Wii before determining anything.

Whoa, this needed some time to write, I must say...
1. A Link to the Past (SNES)
I think pretty much every Zelda-fan in existance rank either this or OoT as the absolute favourite, and it surely have a reason for it. It's one of the games that simply... have it all. The gameplay is fantastic, amazing graphics, gorgeus music... flawless.
2. Majora's Mask (N64)
Now, everybody dosen't share the opinion of placing MM this high, but I just love this game. I think the main reason is the whole story, actually. Or, maybe not the story, but the whole three-day-cycle. It's undoubtebly one of the most facinating elements of the game, and I have yet to see any game to include such a fantastic concept. Apart from ALttP maybe, Dark/Light World is genious too...
3. Link's Awakening (GB)
This game though leaves me without a clue why I enjoys it this much, but it's too one of the absolutley greatest Zelda-games made. I can't really say why, though...
4. Legend of Zelda (NES)
The original. The Zelda. The huge, vast Hyrule and the tiny little boy together clearly makes magic. The most open Zelda of them all, and it makes the game almost patheticly great. Just forget about everything around you, and explore Hyrule for hours.
5. Ocarina of Time (N64)
One of the greatest title in gaming history. 'Nuff said.
6 and 7. Oracle of Ages/Seasons (GBC)
The most underrated Zelda-titles ever, for sure. I'm not going to place them in any order, because I like them both so equally much so it's just impossible to state that one is better than the other... These two titles have a tendency to be ignored by most fans, but they really got everything that a Zeldagame needs, and makes it two fantastic games. The action-based concept and the puzzle-based concept really completes the games, and also makes it one of the longest game together.
8. The Adventure of Link (NES)
Another very underrated title. I must say that I shoudn't really say so much about this game, since I haven't, shamely, completed it. I made it to Maze Island Palace, but then suddelny lost my save-file, and haven't picked it up since then. But as much as I've played, it's heck of a good game. The sidescrolling just makes it more fun with something different, and forces you to focusing more on the really great combat system. Also, the size of Hyrule makes it once again fun to just walk around and explore the land.
9. The Wind Waker (GC)
First, I should maybe say that I sail alot, and love the sea. So The Great Sea was welcomed with an embrace by me. I really gives that same feeling that the two first titles makes, to explore the vast land. The more improved combat system from the previous 3D-games was great too, but apart from that, it was "just" Zelda.
10. Twilight Princess (Wii)
Again, I haven't played the whole game. I don't own a Wii, and me buddys that have it haven't allowed me to make an own saveslot to play it completely. But I have helped out my friends when they've gone stuck, and sadly, that have been pretty often. But I've only played dungeons so far, so I can't make any comment at all about the feeling of the game. But as much as I've played, it seems to be rather good. It may lack some difficulty, but it still got the lenght (as I presume), and the combat system is probably the best in a Zeldagame so far.
11. The Minish Cap (GBA)
Placing this as low as this was actually a big confusion to myself, since I find myself playing this as mush as I play MM, almost. The main reason is because it's simply fun to play this game, you enjoy every single moment. But its almost completely absence of any difficultys at all, and rather shortness, makes all the other games feel superior. Heck, the first playthrough took me just about 9 hours...
... and I haven't played FS, FSA nor PH at all, so I just leave them for now, then.

1) Ocarina of Time
Its just so epic. Thats all I really need to say about it :)
2) A Link to the Past
So many of the Zelda elements and things that make Zelda, Zelda, came from this game. Not to mention its loads of fun.
3) The Wind Waker
It was fun...lol. The graphics went very nicely with the music, and the game gave an overall good feel.
4) Majora's Mask
Loved the game. It was a lot of fun for me, and it presented somewhat of a challenge. I also liked the amount of sidequests in it.
5) Oracle of Ages
One of the best handheld Zelda games, IMO. It had a nice storyline, good characters, items, and all that good stuff.
6) The Minish Cap
This game was loads of fun...although it was extremely easy. Kinstone fusing was OK, but I liked the new weapons in the game(Like the Gust Jar).
7) Legend of Zelda
I liked the amount of accesibility of Hyrule in this game...pretty much what Mases said.
8) Phantom Hourglass
Fun game...but way too easy...
9) Twilight Princess
I liked the graphics of the game, but thats pretty much it...the storyline wasn't too good and the items were 'meh'.
10) Oracle of Seasons
Pretty fun game...changing the seasons was OK...kind of easy though.
11) Adventure of Link
The challenge this game presented and the gameplay aspects are the good things about the game...the sidescrolling was OK..
12) Link's Awakening
This game was kind of fun, but as the game progresses, it gets tripier and tripier.
13) Four Swords Adventures
Wtf was this? The only fun stuff was if you played with friends...other than that it was completely stupid. Especially the level selecting.

ALTTP - perfect
OOT - nearly perfect but the boss battles were too easy and it was too short
MC - Awesome game, best handheld title ever.
TP - Truly epic but a bit too short and on the easy side, though the boss fights were intense and I loved the graphics.
LA - Awesome portable title that really brings the feel of the old console titles to the GB.
LoZ - Truly a classic, epic gameplay, lots of puzzles and crazy length for a nes game especially if you go through the second quest though Ganon was way too easy and the level 7 dungeon boss was a joke.
AoL - Another 8-bit classic. Awesome sidescroller gameplay, love the level up aspect, and the music rocks.
OOS/OOA - major fun, some of the best portable games out there
FS - fun game but I didn't like how you had to have 2 players to play the game and there was no you plus cpu players option.
FSA - Same as FS but even more goodies. Gameplay was not quite as good.
MM - fun but too repetitive and cyclical, I also hated losing all my money and items when I warped back, if I keep my clothes, sword and sheild why do the rest of my items go away? Just adds needless time to the gameplay.
WW - the dungeons were fun but the sailing and looking around for the islands gets old. Completing this game 100% takes mad patience.
(Haven't finished PH, I'll add it when I complete it)
1. Twilight Princess: My favorite game, had a very good storyline, Midna, Epona, some decent bosses, some very in depth and long dungeons, lots of side quests, and an awesome boss battle at the end.
2. Wind Waker: My second favorite (duh) game, I loved the graphics in this one, it had some side quests that took some time, a huge sea, which made a lot more explorable, and a cool Link.
3. Ocarina of Time: One of the classics, this was the first Zelda game that i played, and it was very fun. A what I thought was a long storyline, it is one of the most remembered, and it introduced Epona.
4. A Link to the Past: This was a very good game too, a doubled up storyline, good boss fights, and cool weapons.
5. Phantom Hourglass- Another good game, it was pretty easy for me, an okay storyline, and it worked very well with the DS.
6. Majora's Mask: This was a decent game. The time really annoyed me, masks in this game were cool though, and an okay storyline.
7. Legend of Zelda: A hard game for me, mainly not having enough rupees to even get through it, it was still good.
8. Adventure of Link: The hardest game for me, I'm not really a fan of it. :(
And Minish Cap and the Oracles I haven't played yet.
OOT: The best Zelda game I have played. It was perfect in pretty much every way.
AoL: I find this game insanely difficult, but I still love it.
TP: An amazing game. Slightly on the easy side though
MM: A really creative twist for a game. Kinda repetitive though, and I'm not a fan of the dungeons either. haha
WW: A sweet game with sweet graphic. I did think there was a little too much sailing though.
OoA/OoS: Haven't played either very much, but I love the whole idea of different seasons/times
LoZ: Haven't played much of this game either. It's alright, but I personally don't find it all that interesting.
LttP: Haven't played this game a whole lot either, but I simply just wasn't able to get into it. (Though, it's been a few years, I might try it again)

Ocarina of Time
One of the best games of all time. Not much can be said here that hasn't been said already.
A Link to the Past
Best Zelda game of the "over the head view" games. It had everything that set Zelda up for the games to come afterwards, though it remained better than most of them.
Twilight Princess
I felt like it was a truly epic game. Sadly, a lot of people didn't get the chance to enjoy it when it was released because of a shortage of Wii systems.
Wind Waker
I hated how most people avoided this game because of its look. The game wasn't a childish game at all. The look was cell-shaded, a look that many other games during that time followed. Never the less, this game is one of the best.
Majora's Mask
The parallel world of Termina was just awesome to me. The game felt so different, and the presentation to back it up was great.
Oracle of Ages/Seasons
In my opinion, the best games released on a handheld system. Story was good, length was great, replay value was awesome. Seeing Gorons and Zoras on the Gameboy, after seeing them in 3d, was just so memorable.
Link's Awakening
This was actually the first Zelda game I had ever played. It has to be the best original Gameboy game of all time.
Phantom Hourglass
The game was really good, but it had virtually no replay value at all. I pretty much beat all that could be beat in the game as I went along. I sold it after I had beat it, which I kinda regret, but I don't believe I would ever have played it again, at least many more times.
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Most people hate it, I happen to find it to be one of the hardest Zelda's out there. Not the longest, but definitely the most challenging. Loved the way the game was presented.
The Legend of Zelda
Originals are always great, but this game was topped by others so many times that I just can't place it above most of the others.
Minish Cap
I'm about 80% of the way finished with it so far. I avoided it at first because I really didn't find the hype of it all that worth going out and buying right away, and soon I forgot about it. But so far, this game is great because its Zelda, average for a game in general.
Four Swords/ FS Adventures
I didn't even bother with these games.

(T)AoL, WW and OoT are my top three. (I do not know which of them I prefer)
AoL is the game that made me love zelda, it is different but awesome!
WW: I enjoyed sailing, the temples were interesting and the graphics entertaining for me.
OoT has a really great storyline and was the first 3D zelda I ever played. I understand its popularity!!
Oh. And I must add Alttp. It is fantastic too!
That is all I can say right now.
