Oracle series linked game

I've played through Oracle of Seasons, and I have the game finished on my cartridge. I've been playing on the GBA SP. I tried to start a new game in Oracle of ages using the GBA link cable, and it kept returning an error. I have the GBA link cable, and a Mad Cats brand multitap, and I've tried both, and neither of them seemed to work.

Does a linked game work when linking with GBA, or does the link cable only work with a Gameboy Color? Or is there something else I'm doing wrong?

You can only connect GBC games on the GBA with the Gameboy Color Connector Cable. I've tried using the GBA cable, but it doesn't work when you have a GBC game in it.

The third party cable I have has a switch on it to select GBA or GBC. Switched it to GBC, and it worked perfectly. Thanks.
