View Full Version : Leaving Zelda?

This is a question that ponders my mind and something that I've talked with some friends with. When will you leave the Zelda world. When I say leave, I mean, just move on where Zelda is an afterthought. Just a game that you played during your early days and no longer something you're willing to sign up to a message board online and post about it.
I personally don't know if it will ever happen. Most people eventuallt will 'grow out' of video games but I don't think that will ever happen to me. I was a super huge video game fan years ago and it has trailed off greatly. In fact, I did buy an Xbox 360 about 2 years ago, but I rarely ever touch it nowadays. My Wii does get frequent play time in multiplayer games though with friends.
In terms of single player titles, it's gotten to the point where if it isn't Zelda, Resident Evil, or Silent Hill, I won't play a modern game anymore. I still play tons and tons of old games from time to time, but nothing new. I know it's been over a decade but I still haven't made the full transition to the 3d world and don't think I ever will.
Thus, I think Zelda will always be close in heart with me and as long as I've got that inner child within me and Zelda Dungeon, I'll always love Zelda. Video games as a whole though, they have trailed off and probably will continue to do so.

Zelda, for me, is more important than any other RPG, simply because it began so much of what we have today. Many RPGs (like I said before) have something similar with Zelda - Zelda was the original "do what you want" game. I'm willing to try out new RPGs though, but most of them aren't well thought-out anymore, and are just copycats trying to make it big by acting like another game. I keep myself confined as well. Most games aren't my type though. I like the Elder Scrolls, and sometimes drift away from Zelda when I get really into those games. I don't think I'll ever stop playing Zelda though. Perhaps I'll eventually get tired of the classics from playing them so many times, but when a new Nintendo console comes out, I'm getting it, and the first game for it will most likely be the new Zelda release.
Video games are beginning to get like movies. There are only 10% that are really remarkable and unique, yet amazing. The rest are just trying to be like those 10% but not really working hard enough.
So my answer is... yes and no. I will always drift around, and there will be times where for weeks or so, I don't even think about Zelda. But it will never be forgotten.

I have really no clue on this question... I must say that Zelda haven't had any sentimental meaning for me - I stated in some other thread here that I began with Oot, continued to MM, but then nothing more. I had surley a jolly time playing them when I was younger, but the weren't my favourite games at all back then. I started to play Zelda seriously in when I was 14, two years ago or something like that, and for now, it's definitely the most awesome gameseries ever invented, imo. But who know's, maybe I find something more fun...
But then also, you can define "leaving" in many ways. I don't think I'll ever stop playing Zelda, but maybe I stop playing it often - or as some say, "too much" - later on. Maybe that's leaving Zelda, when you realizes that way better games in the gaming world, or maybe way better things to do than gaming... or leaving Zelda is when you think it's a stupid game, and don't see why you put any time on completing those annoying, pointless dungeons anyway...
And the latter won't be a reality for me, I'm sure. But the first... who knows?

I won't leave the zelda series for now. Games like zelda are getting rare and the zeldagames are the reason I started gaming in the first place. Maybe i will stop gaming when i get older and have to go to work or raise a family, but I will play zelda games as long as possible.

I have a feeling that I'll be kind of like the generation of Zelda fans who played the original Zelda games in their heyday and continue to play the newest Zelda games. I have a feeling I'll be sticking with the Zelda franchise for a very long time. I plan on continuing to play video games long past my college days.

I plan to play zelda and all video games well for as long as I can. Mostly zelda though. It just never ends. One day I might not be as big as a fan but I'd never stop playing the series. Whenever a new zelda games comes out I'd get it. I really don't suppose I would just stop playing. Its not a reality. I love zelda games tooooo tooooo much to ever quit.

For me it will be hard to leave the community, especially seeing how I've been in it since 1996. But going on 23 years old makes it where I have less time to work on my site or even be involved with the community in general. I see myself staying quite longer, but who knows...I may only give it another 2 console Zeldas to be released before losing any real interest. Don't get me wrong, I will always love the Zelda series...

gaming is for me more like a hobby to kill some time.
But zelda has like been a part of my life. i can 't think that i will stop playing games or zelda even if i'm more grown up. there are more people like 30 or 40 that i see gaming and i got huge respect for them. who said that gaming is only for younger people, if you are a gamer you are a gamer. even my 27 year old sister still plays games with me and believe me she is really good with fighting games. and besides she is the one who bought me my very first zelda game.
as for the ZD community, as long as it excisist i will never leave from here.
if the forum is gone, THEN i will be gone as well.

I don't plan on leaving this forum for another few years, when I go off to college. Unless you really want me gone... lol
In all my years, like I said, I think I'll always be a Zelda fan. I honestly don't think it'll ever grow out of me.

I probably won't leave Zelda unless video games are banned by those crazy mothers...But then again I would still get them illegaly :D
But yeah...I grew up playing Zelda...You can't go away from your childhood...unless you were beaten...

I grew up on Zelda. Links Awakening Dx was my very first game I ever had and from there my addiction grew so great that I'll never stop playing till i die. No lies

The first game I played was the original Legend if Zelda for the good old NES my grandmother had bought for me when I was three. This series is the only video game series that has captured my imagination in the same way a good book would. I don't think I'll stop playing Zelda games until death forces me to stop....if it can.

Zelda is probably the most timeless of games out there. Especially the original LoZ game. I know 30+ year olds who enjoy the game just because of its simplicity and pure enjoyability.

Barring some completely bizarre scenario, I doubt I will ever give up videogames in general, Zelda in particular. The game holds too much meaning to me, and I've always been a hardcore gamer, as long as I can remember.
Regarding a comment in the OP, I don't think most gamers grow out of videogames. On the contrary, most people who game as children continue to game well into adulthood, albeit less often. Only because adulthood comes with responsibilities that take the place of much of your gaming time. But even my oldest brother, a father and border-line work-a-holic, bought the Xbox360 the day it came out.

I think I've official hit the point of no return for modern games. Like I mentioned earlier, I do have an Xbox 360, but I think collecting dust would be an understatement. I haven't played it since last September when I got Halo3. Since then I've played some Wii. I bought Super Mario Galaxy, played it extensively for a period, but haven't beaten. I do plan on doing so someday as it really is a great game. Other then that and Twilight Princes, I haven't touched any modern console at all unless it was for multi-player gaming with friends.
I still have my NES, SNES, PS1, N64, and Gamecube all hooked up and the NES, SNES, and PS1 still got some relatively frequent playtime. (Mainly Zelda, Mega Man, Mario, Crash Bandicoot, Contra, and a very other classics). Also got a dreamcast, genesis, and an original xbox, but those can safe be classified in the collecting dust portion of the collection.
So have I left Zelda, absolutely not and that likely will never happen. Have I left general gaming? Sorta. I can't play much of anything modern these days. (Modern being anything in the 3d era). Although there are a few exceptions for the PS1/N64 and even some for the Cube. Nothing is playable on the 360 though. The only modern game series that I can actually still play and enjoy are Zelda, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. Someday I hope to get back into gaming, but for now, the classics and modern Zelda are good enough for me.

You can laugh at me for this, but I am a Video Game Addict. The year I learned to read, I got a NES and The Legend of Zelda. 'Twas very fun. I don't think Zelda, Mario, Kirby (YAY KIRBY), or pretty much any game I've played (excluding pokemon) will ever leave me. As far as favorites, Zelda and Kirby are tied, though. Ya gotta love that puffball!

They made a poll today on gamefaqs.com asking if you would still be playing video games 10 years from now, and most people, including me said "Probably, but probably not as much as I do today."
Odds are I'll probably end up cutting down on video games when I go to college or get a family.

I feel kind of like you Mases. I don't really get a good thrill out of modern video games anymore, and aside from Zelda and a few Mario titles, I don't play single player video games much anymore. The 2D classics will always be my favorite, I grew up on them. I was raised on the Super Nintendo as I spent most of my childhood with my aunt, who was addicted to video games. The 3D games are good graphically, but the gameplay itself isn't very enjoyable to me. The only Non-Zelda 3D games I own are either Mario or some racing games (racing isn't very fun in 2D).

Same here, really...only I do like some modern video games..but most of my games are Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, and some Zelda-clone games(like Okami). Not a huge fan of Mario, but I'll pick up a title every now and then, especially the Kart series.

I got into the Metroid series when Prime came around, but lost interest after I beat the first two. If I do get a Wii, Corruption is a title I will most likely pick up. Prime is one of the few games I prefer 3D over 2D in though.

Yeah, the Prime Trilogy is awesome. I actually prefer Metroid games in 3D over 2D...I can't really get into the 2D Metroid titles.
It's also rumored that Nintendo is releasing all three Prime games on the Wii on one disc, kind of like The Orange Box-

The first video game I ever played was LOZ, when I was 30 something. I'm 51 now and since I became disabled, I play more than ever. Sure, I couldn't play as much when I was working and raising my family but, I sure made the most of the time I did manage. It was a great way to relax on my days off and take a break from the everyday problems of life. I am strictly a Zelda game player. I've tried other titles but could never really get interested in any of them. I am playing TP right now on my GameCube but I take a break with OOT, MM, or ALTTP when I get frustrated or stuck. I think playing Zelda helps keep me young at heart and I don't ever plan to stop playing.

Thnx for reviving on topic Zelda Granny, the people here tend to drift off and get off topic. But yeah, I myself grew up on Zelda and will never give it up. I may take my breaks, but I will always be a hardcore fan.

Never gonna happen. Zelda's gameplay alone is just too good, they'd have to start putting out a whole crapload of terrible games and totally destroy the gameplay engine for that to happen to me.

Well, this is something I ponder time and time again. I enjoy so many different types of games that Zelda can really only be called my favorite series... not necessarily the game I prefer to play regularily. At the same time, the games continue to intrigue and inspire me in ways no other franchise has. Okami was great, as were other recent titles like No More Heroes... but alas Zelda is the only game/franchise I know I will still be playing in 10 years.
That being said... "most" good things come to an end. So, if the Zelda franchise was ever retired... or took a serious dive after Myiamoto retires... then that may be when I break myself away from everything.
That being said... I don't know if that will happen in my lifetime. If there is a time I completely cut Zelda off, it will be because it's ruining my marriage (if I get married, that is). You have to draw a line somewhere.
I don't plan on leaving anytime soon (not that I've ever thought about it before, really).
My interest in games cycles, so when it comes back 'round to Zelda, I'll be at that constantly for a while again.

I do not seeing myself growing out of Zelda anytime soon. Never, hopefully. My mom got me into the the very first one when I was a child, and have played and loved every major release since. Its something I grew up with, and matured with. Its in my blood.
My drive as a Zelda webmaster has diminished though. I just don't think I have it in me anymore. While I might not always be active in the Zelda community, I will most likely always be in the background. Looking out for new news and such.
As for gaming, I will most likely continue regular gaming for years to come as well. All of the Wii games I have purchased so far, I have loved. I guess I have been lucky and have only picked out games I know I will enjoy.

Unless Nintendo does something drastically stupid with Zelda, I don't see myself walking away from it. I have, however, walked away from Nintendo. Zelda is the only Nintendo product I am willing to follow.

I wouldnt say that im ever gonna LEAVE zelda but you know i might put it down and atack something else for a while then in a year or two hit zelda Again. You know about a year before now i belonged to zelda forum and i attacked the series for the first time. Then left and now im back as a more mature and expierinced gamer hoping to have more luck. I play it in seasons
Well, I think eventually I will like a lot of people, but it won't happen for a long time, maybe when Shigeru leaves... But I feel that I have been not playing as many games as I used to.

Well guys, I'm almost 54 and I'm a Zelda nut! My boys, 13 and soon to be 15, don't enjoy playing the Zelda games any more, although my 13-yr old still likes to battlr Ganon in OoT. They're both more into the online Gears of War and Halo3, which is not my kind of gaming. I love the quests, mini games, and atmosphere of all the Zelda games. I thought at first I wouldn't like WW, but it kind of grows on ya, lol! Any way, I plan to play Zelda with my grandchildren, so I'll be playing a loooong time!

I'm 52 and it's nice to hear that I'm not the only "older" Zelda fan. I've been hooked since the original Zelda came out. I've played with my kids and now I'm teaching my grandkids to play. I definitely think it helps keep you young.

When i think of this it just makes me think what zelda will be like. So for me, it might depend on what the game swill be like. However, i'll just forget about it eventually...What would be really cool is when i have kids in the future, and i get some VG's for them, i would recommend zleda games to them. Or they might just want it and i would remember zelda games and how much i loved the games...

Well, I probably won't be leaving Zelda anytime soon. Maybe in the far future, video games appeal will die down for me, but I don't know. For now, I really like Zelda, because it's like a neat alternate world I can go to when I want, sort of like reading a good fiction book, just not quite the same.

when it comes to video games zelda is the absolute most important videogame in my life. Ocarina of time was the very first game i've ever beat by my self. When i was in third grade, I wrote my own little zelda stories...ext i was and still am a Huge fan! if i left zelda, it'd be like totally forgetting one of the most important things in my younger childhood years!
