So I got a Wii not too long ago, and the first games I got were Zelda (Of course) and Fire Emblem. I've been a fan of the series since its American debut, as I know several others here have. Or at least Zero. I don't remember if anyone else had it. Either way, this one definitely stands up to the last three American releases.
This is a direct sequel to Path of Radiance on the Game Cube. It picks up three years after the events of PoR, and includes many new and familiar characters and areas. You start with a chick called Micaiah and a rogue who in the first one looked like he was like ten. Now he's quite doomy. For those of you who remember, it's Sothe. Later on you get Ike back, who I'm happy to see is going to be in the new Super Smash brothers as well.
What I like about the game so far (have yet to beat it) is that I get to travel around through different countries and see different sides of the story from the perspectives of the inhabitants. For example, when I had Micaiah, she kept being all pissed off at Ike for being the great tyrant who saw personally to the demise of her homeland. However, it's not really like that. I like this perspective change thing because I've always wondered if some of our presidents were seen as horrible, horrible villains in other countries. Or if in Russia they saw Stalin as a great hero. I've always been curious.
Anyhoo, as far as the gameplay goes, it's basic Fire Emblem controls, still turn-based tactical combat. It's still fun though, even without any cool sword slashing awesomeness with the Wiimote. The graphics are a touch above Zelda's, and I think that's saying something 'cause Zelda looks brilliant. The cinematics flow nicely, and when there's no cutscene to speak of, there's still an array of well drawn characters and environments. The sounds also flow well, and of course it has good storyline and pace.
Overall I think this game is pure awesomesauce, and it earns my ranking of 17 out of 17, 'cause I really can't think of anything that I don't like about it. I'm not usually a fan of tactical or turn-based games either, but with this game, I'll say it's perfect anyways 'cause it makes up for it by not being silly and difficult to control and "WHY DON'T YOU HIT THE GUY BACK?!" like most of these damned tactical strategy games. I'll also give it a seal of yay. Seriously good game here. Check it out.
