Ok, I've supplied this forum with quite a few Zelda title ideas but I think this will be my last.
Anyway, we know that "Nintendo + Square = Videogame Gold" with the infamous Super Mario RPG, and I've always wondered why they never did anything similar for Zelda? Zelda would be the ideal setting for an RPG game.
Link would be the Sword Wielding Hero
Zelda would be the White Mage
Ganondorf would be that powerful Second Sword
...but then of course that would be a pretty weak cast, so we'd have more characters of varying races...
A Zora would be the Archer
A Goron would be the Fighter
A Deku would be the Black Mage
Impa would be the Thief
Together, they would be fighting some kind of super evil, which would explain why Ganondorf was in the pack. Like if Vaati found Majora's Mask.

I never tried Super Mario RPG but I have tried Final fantasy advance tactics. If the game would be like that one I would really be dissapointed, not even my beloved Zelda characters would save my day. But perhaps Super Mario RPG is much different from FF? In that case I might reconsider.
Oh Mario RPG is one of the best games ever.....dunno if zelda fits in to that kind of game though

Super Mario RPG plays a lot like Paper Mario. The Paper Mario games are considered to be the spiritual successor to Super Mario RPG.
Basically, the idea I'm going for here is a turn-based RPG starring the Zelda characters.

Well, that would be completely changing the genre of video game that Zelda is. To me, it's more of an action-adventure game, and turning that into an RPG would be overboard.
Anyways, if you want a Zelda RPG, look at the fan-game The Legend of Zelda: Dark Sage. I've never played it, but it's a Zelda RPG alright.

I find this pretty funny that no one has any faith in a Zelda RPG.
No one had faith in Super Mario RPG, but look at the master piece it turned out to be, and look at its legacy. Zelda already has RPG in its blood and still people think it would be crap?
I don't understand Zelda fanboys.

i agree. a Zelda RPG could be amazing. Mario is a platform game and they took a huge turn when deciding to make it an RPG and it worked out great. that game is one of my favorite RPGs of all times. it was very good for its time. i wouldnt mind seeing a Zelda RPG. i wouldnt base it off of final fantasy though. there dont need to be classes or jobs like archer and all of that. there would just be certain things. like instead of an archer make the deku scrub some sort of long ranged warrior because they can shoot bubbles out of their mouth. change it up and have them shoot like energy balls out of their mouth. have Zora use their fins as blades like in MM. have the Gorons just be rediculously strong and have them wield a heavy weapon that only they could hold. i just came up with a pretty sweet idea now. i think im gonna make a thread for it.

I suppose the game would work, but I'm not jumping up and down over it. Would I buy it? Sure. Would I want a sequel? Probably not.
Nintendo would make some cash off of this, though. It would also be good for furthering the story and timeline. I bet that most Zelda fans would not adore such a game, but neither would they despise it. If it was done correctly, it would a winner.
But sometimes these things need to stay inside of their own boxes, and not crawl out to mutate other things. Imagine Pokemon mixed with Zelda. *uhg*.

Ew! What? Zeldemon!? Not even.
Think more along the lines of Zelda meets Super Mario RPG, but definitely a more technical game, though not on the same level as some of the more serious RPGs like Final Fantasy.
Just something Nintendo would make.

its definitely a solid idea if done correctly.

I made a Zelda RPG game once. It was kinda kool. But I think Nintendo is too late to create a turn based RPG for Zelda. The reason I say this is because now days, everyones all about graphical impression. Even the DS tries to push out as much graphics as it can in most instances, and a Zelda RPG title in a Phantom Hourglass style setting would flat out suck in my opinion. If they were to create a game using the same design as Super Mario RPG, I think it would work. It wouldn't be the best Zelda title ever, but it would be different. Isn't that what Nintendo is trying to do right now anyway?

It could work, proof of this is Super Mario RPG, but I'm not that excited about the idea. Mainly because to me Zelda is always an action/adventure game & not an RPG. But they did use EXP points in AoL so you never know what Nintendo will do.

It could work. Like others said. But I never was a big fan of FF. So if it ended up being like FF... it would be sad to me... and it would not be like Zelda to me either.
I did play Super mario RPG and I did have fun with it ^^

Bwahaha, this would be so awesome! Like, how you were saying, with you changing to different classes, like in FF3. But like how I am with most Zelda spin-off type things, they should limit it to only 1 game. If they make too many FFZ games it would get out of hand.

I really don't think it would work too well. I mean, they could most certainly pull it off... but somehow I think it fit Mario more than it could work with Zelda.
Zelda is already a borderline RPG anyway (at least depending on your definition of the term.) All you'd really do is give it somewhat different mechanics.
Besides, Zelda is awesome and original as the genre of game it is. If you turn it into an RPG, it's no longer original; it's nearly exactly the same as every other RPG in terms of setting and style. Mario was unique as an RPG, and that's one of the reasons I believe it was good.
This is all my own opinion, of course. Not saying it's fact.

No, that actually makes a lot of sense. SMRPG works well because it wasn't only an RPG, but it held true to Mario's roots with all the platforming.
I think Zelda could work, it would just have to be given close attention. I think 2D Zelda would probably work better than 3D. Imagine ALttP but with turn-based combat.

I think that's the key to make a Zelda PRG work. I personally would like to see a similar style to Mario RPG with the somewhat 3-D top down view (similar to Phantom Hourglass, I suppose).
Zelda already does have RPG elements in it, so I really don't think this would be a stretch at all. Fill it out with supporting characters like the ones DvSag mentioned, and keep it true to the world of Hyrule and I'd love to see what it would be like!
