View Full Version : Favorite Zelda Game

Out of every single Zelda game ever made (yes CDi games included)
which one did you enjoy playing the most?
Me personally, i like a link to the past. It was the very first Zelda game i ever played and it really got me hooked on the Zelda series. There is a lot to do in this game and for my first time playing it, i spent a good chunk of my time finding heart pieces, items, figuring out the puzzles in each palace of the dark world. Lots of fun.
Mine is either Twilight princess or Ocarina of time

Kinda already had a topic on this one, but this ones title is more clear so ya, its a keeper.
Nonetheless, Link to the Past is my favorite title. It wasn't the first game I played (played LOZ before), but when I played the original Legend of Zelda I was just a little kid and didn't know anything about the game and what the heck Zelda was. Link to the Past was basically the first real adventure that I seriosly got into and loved. Have played through it dozens and dozens of times and still has a place in my heart today.

Yeah, me too, I'm either Ocarina of Time or Twighlight Princess. I like Ocarina of Time better though, my firsts ever video game, it took me a month to relieze the monsters were just in the game (I was 5) and that they weren't that scary when I had a sword and the ocarina with the suns song. :p So I like teh Ocarina of Time the best personally. :):P:P:P:P:D:P:P

Good game, but not superior to all other Zeldas. But I guess you have to respect all the Zeldas to be able to say one isnt superior over another.

All of the Zelda games have pros to them, like my favorite handheld is hands down ALTTP. My favorite console game is either OOT or Twilight Princess, as I've stated a million times.

I wouldn't really consider LTTP a handheld, even though it was ported to the GBA. It was originally a console game and should always be known as a console game. That would be like considering OOT a Gamecube game because it was re-released on the cube. That is a N64 title and ALTTP is a Super Nintendo title.
THat being said, Link to the Past is the best Zelda game ever in my opinion. Felt so epic for its time and it was just the first Zelda game I was seriously into.

If it was edited slightly or something, ya, then maybe it would qualify as a new game. Or not even a new game, but just different enough to distinguish it, but the LTTP part of the game is exactly the same.
A game like Mario64, which was ported to the DS. That still was just that, a port, but there were some noticeable differences like being able to play as four charachters. Still though, the original version is the console version and I don't think its fair to consider it a handheld title.

No it isnt Mases. If you beat Four Swords, a hidden dungeon emerges in the ALttP version which contains the Four Sword.
Edit : You have to beat Ganon in ALttP as well to find this dungeon. And also the story is minor tweaked to include the story of the Four Sword.

11-01-2007, 11:12 PM
Had no idea the story was tweaked since i haven't played it. I remember hearing about the extra dungeon as well, just completely forgot. Nonetheless, just like I said with Mario64, these were just slight adjustments to attempt to give the game new life. It was not a new game though, it was just a port with some additions. Thus, I stand by my arguement of saying that it was a Super Nintendo title and not a handheld title.
Either way, still my favorite Zelda title.
Although, the Minish Cap was also a lot of fun for me. When playing through it it reminded me a bit of... A Link to the Past. Not sure why, but it seemed to closer resemble LTTP than Link's Awakening or the Oracle titles. Perhaps because it felt more fluent with the gameplay.
However, even Phantom Hourglass is creaping up on my list of favorite Zelda games. Still not ready to give it a proper placement, but it seems to be in the upper half of Zelda games.

My favorite title is OoT, and then ALttP. Those games had what it takes to become legends, and become the best in the gaming industry, which already happened. Plus, the story line in both games were great, and visual designs were great for their era of gaming.

Twilight Princess is my #1 Zelda game. However, I haven't played/beat that many yet.
Tp- Beat it
OoT- Playing
ALttP- Started
WindWaker- Playing through rentals
Phantom Hourglass- Beat it
And that's about it. OoT is definately my second, with WindWaker at third. Lots of people have said that ALttP is great, so maybe I should start playing that..

LTTP.
I definitely prefer 2D games over 3D ones, and LTTP was the best 2D Zelda game. I liked that it was very long and had many dungeons and a lot of cool items, and more variety in the bosses than some games. The Oracle games were really good too, although the password system was rather annoying. I liked the link system, but entering passwords is always a pain in videogames in general...
It's hard to pick a favorite. First of all, I should say this:
The Legend of Zelda: played some of it, seen the whole game completed
Zelda II: played almost all of it (haven't quite finished the last level yet)
Link to the Past: played all of it and 100% completed it, multiple times, was my second Zelda game and probably most played game
Link's Awakening: played all of it, 100% completed it. was my first Zelda game and holds a lot of nostalgia
Ocarina of Time: played all of it, 100% completed. i got this game when I got my n64 after long anticipation when I was 11ish, during the prime of my childhood videogaming.
Majora's Mask: played all of it, not quite 100% completed, but I'm working on it right now again. I anticipated this game greatly ever since seeing screenshots referred to as "Zelda Gaiden" in Nintendo Power.
Minish Cap / Oracle of Seasons/Ages: played like the first 5-20 minutes of these.. for some reason haven't finished them. i'm sure I'd like them if i gave them another go.
Wind Waker: beat it, not 100% completed it, beat it again, and again. looked forward to it, liked it a lot. though it is a bit too easy and without enough dungeons. still a great game though.
Phantom Hourglass / Twilight Princess: haven't played them yet. don't own a DS or a Wii. I'm poor.
That said, if I have to pick a favorite, it's gonna have to be Zelda 3, A Link to the Past. This game is my childhood, in a way that can only possibly be rivaled by Link's Awakening, and although I have at times considered saying LA is my favorite, I choose to acknowledge LTTP instead as #1 as it's mostly just that LA was my first Zelda game. I will say that LA is without a doubt my favorite gameboy game ever. And I'm counting GBA and DS games too. Obsessed replayings of LTTP are all that held me over until OoT.
A lot of people say OoT is hands down the best one, and yeah, it's a great game, and the first 3d Zelda game. The feeling of playing it for the first time on Christmas of 1998 was utterly magical, but somehow it still didn't replace the number 1 slot for me.
Zelda 3 will always be special to me. When Wind Waker came out, I loved the graphics and greatly disagreed with those who thought they were too cartoony. They sort of reminded me a little bit of what we got in A Link to the Past, except without the pink hair. I really wouldn't mind another Zelda game where Link has pink hair. Anyone else?
If I may be permitted to list a group of favorites in no particular order though, LTTP, LA, OOT, and MM stand out to me. Also worth mentioning is that AoL is, as far as I'm concerned, the greatest NES game period.

Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past are my favourites. Ocarina of Time was the first the 3D Zelda game, and just reading my Nintendo Power magazine made me scream like a girl. Although Legend of Zelda was the first I have played, I prefer Link to the Past.

Same as the above. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time were great games, and no matter what you say, my opinion will not change. Ocarina of Time is voted by the majority as the greatest game of all time after all.(it passed Super Mario Galaxy again)

personally every zelda game is special, but i agree with you OOT rocks. not because its the first 3d zelda game but the whole storyline was awsome. playing as kid link and adult link gave it a cool twist.
but i don 't know if OOT has become a classic...yet.

This is a great topic, and it's hard for me to pick an all-time favorite. I didn't get into Zelda until ALttP came out, since in the days of original Nintendo my ignorant parents were convinced that Zelda must be the work of the DEVIL. Seriously they really thought this. I remember buying LoZ, I must have been like 7 or 8 years old and I was so stoked just about the gold cartridge. I got to play it for like 30 minutes and then my mom and dad looked through the instruction book and made me return the game to the store that very same night because they thought it was "demonic." I will never forgive my parents for making me take that game back.
Anyway by the time ALttP came out they weren't as strict about such things and I had basically wised up enough to just stop telling them what I was playing. Until OoT came along, ALttP was definitely my favorite game of all time. When I finally got ahold of OoT, I had been waiting and waiting and waiting for it, and it didn't disappoint me one bit. I remember thinking back then that I'd still be playing that game after a whole lot of other games and systems had come and gone, and to this day I still love playing that game. But is it my favorite? It's definitely up there.
I have to say that Majora's Mask was totally lost on me. It was the same deal as with OoT, where I was waiting and waiting, only this time I was utterly disappointed. I remember getting it and fiendishly tearing it open and firing up the N64, and then being like, "What is this???" I never finished it and now I regret it because apparently it is awesome according to pretty much everyone on here.
I never played any of the Gameboy titles in between everything, and after being utterly disappointed by MM, I kind of lost track of the series until ALttP popped up on GBA. That port was the main reason I bought one of those things to begin with. I missed out on Windwaker because I didn't get a GameCube until late but when Minish Cap showed up I got that, and although that game wasn't too terrible, I felt it was kind of a low-water mark in the whole scheme of things. It just didn't feel like a "real" Zelda game to me, but nevertheless I enjoyed it enough to finish it.
And then there is Twilight Princess. I decided I would ignore all the hype and not set the bar too high. I was still pretty excited, but when I got the game I wasn't expecting it to alter the alignment of the planets or anything like that. And I'm glad I wasn't expecting that, because I think it might have soured things a bit for me, like with MM. I ended up loving TP and I'm thinking it may be my favorite. When I played it, I just kept thinking, "Finally, they've got it right again!" To me, TP was like OoT on steroids.
I didn't expect to enjoy Phantom Hourglass as much as I have, and it does make me want to go find a copy of WW somewhere. I'd have to say that PH is definitely my favorite of the portable Zelda titles I've played.
I know that that was really long-winded and I could have just said, "It's tough to pick but I'd have to say it's Twilight Princess," but where's the fun in that? I'd have to say though that my biggest criticism is that TP isn't long enough. I never wanted that game to end and when it did so abruptly, it was kind of like they pulled the rug out from under you.
OK, I'll shut up now.

1st-Twilight Princess: This game was a masterpiece with continuous action, hard dungeons, hard bosses, and even harder mini-bosses. Seriously, I had a difficult time defeating the first two mini-bosses.
2nd-Ocarina of Time: This game was also a masterpiece with time travel, more dungeons than you can count, and a lot of good weapons such as, my favorite, the Megaton Hammer. It's so much fun flipping Tekities over and then smashing their bellies.
3rd-Majora's Mask: This game is dark, which I like, and fun. It's difficult with the time limit set and some of the sidequests and such. The bosses were a little on the downside though, especially Twinmold and Goht who just run around, ignoring you.
4th-Wind Waker: This is a nice game with odd graphics but still fun. With over 40 islands, and countless sidequests, I'm spending more time getting goodies then I am working to beat the game. And I LOVE the different music for each boss and they all suit the bosses, too.
5th-The Minish Cap: A fun game but too short like Majora's Mask which makes up in its sidequests. I like the bosses, gameplay and use of dungeons and everything but it gets annoying how the dungeons only get longer as you progress.

Anyways, my favorite Zelda game would probably be Link's Awakening. I always wanted a Gameboy when I was little, but my parents didn't want to buy me one. Then several years later, I bought myself a Gamboy Classic with Zelda LA. This was after OoT got released, of course.
At first I didn't like the game that much, but when I progressed I saw the light, or so to say. For a 4 mbit () game, this game has a wonderful storyline, graphics, and sound. Really, I'm amazed by what they were able to pull off. Only 512 KB space. Compare that to the 30 GB+ developers get nowadays.
It's still a great classic, and if you haven't played it yet I suggest you do. My second favorite would probably still be OoT, yeah, I know most people hate that game now. But it's still the first 3D Zelda, and a good one at that.

Well I have played so many games that it is hard to choose. But if I had to choose, it wouls certainly be A Link to the Past. It was the game that started my love for Zelda. It was an awsome game with many exciting dungeons and items. The bosses were also pretty good.
So for anyone who hasn't played ALTTP, I suggest you play it. It will last a long time and you will enjoy it all the way through!

i think its way too cliche to say that OoT is mine or anyone's favorite game. it was the first 3D LoZ game and it was an amazing game, indeed.
personally, though, i think that Majora's Mask was much better and i would say it is my favorite. it was a very long game, there was a lot more to do in it than in OoT, i LOVED the idea of utilizing the masks for many different puzzles and to further advance the plot, and the fact that you could use the masks to be different races gave you a feel of what it would actually be like if you were really playing from their pont of view. it was an amazing 3D sequel to a great 3D prequel.

It's hard to pick between LoZ or OoT. But since I have to pick one or the other I will go with LoZ.
It was the first game that I really got into, if not the first game I ever played. It was also the first game that I beat and whenever I think of it I think of my childhood, and whenever I think of my childhood I think of LoZ. I remember looking at the pictures in the book and thinking of how amazing all of it was. Such an epic adventure, especially for the time.

Id have to say alttp. even though i have not beat it yet.:awkward:

I'd say Majora's Mask.
I loved all the others, but there was something about MM that I loved... it was so unique!

Lots of fun.
i liked oracle or seasons. I almost beat it, but I have beaten a bunch of Zelda games, but I was so close to beating seasons that I accidentally erased it. I was so upset I didn't pick it up again to beat it. But i will soon.
Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask so much.
I'm a fan of any game that gives you many options as far as things to do goes, like you have your main quest, but if you don't feel like doing that right now, hey, we've got a bunch of side-quests, too. Considering that Majora's Mask (and The Wind Waker, which is my SECOND favorite game) is basically made out of side-quests, this clearly puts it high on my list.
That alone wouldn't stick it at the top, though. What really seals it for me is the overall atmosphere of the game. I'm a fan of darker stories, and Majora's Mask, my friends, is about as dark as it gets when it comes to Zelda. That game can border on depressing if you get too attached to the characters, and Skull Kid with Majora's Mask is pretty much my favorite antagonist ever (even if Skull Kid alone isn't really that bad of a guy). And Termina is such a bizarre place... so radically different from any other Zelda world, and with so many strange things to find (and such a hotly-debated in-game history) that even the world itself is entrancing.
Overall, it's pretty much just the best game ever made.

My top three:
1. Twilight Princess
2. Windwaker
3. Link's Awakening (if only for the nostalgic factor, when I played this as a kid I was really engrossed in the storyline. I know it's not much of a story compared to the others, but it captivated me for some reason. Plus I really liked whales back then:D)

The original Legend of Zelda was the best. It was the first game to truly simulate a real adventure.

This far OoT seem to top the list with 31 votes!
Followed by:
2) Alttp (23 votes)
3) TP (19)
4) MM (16)
5) WW (11)
6) AoL & MC (4)
OoA, OoS, FSA, PH, LoZ & LA each have 2 votes. (IGN gave OoA, OoS & LA DX a score of 10!!)
I go with the flow!! The top 7 on this list are the BEST zelda games!! The bottom six belong where they are (at the bottom) ;)
(My counting is probably not 100 %, one reason being some posts kind of tricky to interpret with 100 % accuracy and another that I suspect doubleposting)
But anyways!!!
