now this is a common question for zelda fans that i want to ask.
as you all know, in 3d zelda games you can lock on enemies.
but what option do you use with the lock-on system, hold or switch.
in case some people don 't know this option:
hold = is that you hold the target button.
switch = that you will automaticly target enemies just pressing the target button one time.
for me, i always used the "switch option" don 't know why, but i got used to it in the past when OOT came out. since then i always used the "switch option"
so what option do you use and do you have a reason for it?

I've always used hold. I never really bothered to figure out the difference, but hold just felt easier for me. To me, it was annoying how when you would target on switch then go to take off the target, sometimes it just targeted something else nearby. I think hold made boss battles easier as well, I suppose it's just an opinion though.

I actually used both, so I'm skilled with using a combination of both of them, but I prefer to use switch, so you can switch between targets quickly at the tap of a button.

I prefer Switch, because holding the button down gets annoying to me >.<

I use both, but mainly I only use hold. I only usw switch when I'm surrounded by several enemies...and well sometimes I'd rather not use either.

I use switch, because I haven't just change it... dunno why I haven't. I'm probably too lazy :p

Same here, I usually leave it on its default setting, but like I said I can use both.

Although switch is incredibly annoying when you just want to walk away from some enemies. With hold it's just to release Z, but with switch you have to keep walking backwards until the lock releases...

its not that hard, with multiply enemies just pressing the target button will lock on on a other nearby enemy, thats true but, if you want release lock, just hold back and press the target button.

I like the switch targeting. Holding that target button down for hours at a time hurts after a while

I use Switch Targeting most of the time. I was always more used to it. It's just something about holding the button down that got annoying to me xP

Yeah, you can change it in the options menu somewhere.
Oh, and the default varies amongst the games. On OOT and MM it is switch. On WW and I think TP it is hold.

I actually am quite clueless on this topic. I have never changed it from whatever the default method was. I really never noticed either. Maybe it was different and I realized it when first playing Majora's Mask, but just got used to it.
Either way, without playing it I wouldn't even be able to say if it is switch or hold, lol. I'd need to be holding the controller. One thing, if it is on switch, but you keep holding it rather than releasing, will it still stay on the target? Then to get to other enemies you just press it over and over. I think that is how it works for the switch method, but I just hold it anyway since it seems more intuitive that as if you are controlling the camera on the enemy by holding it.
I'll be sure to take notice next time I'm playing one of the games.

I always use hold since, what if I want to stop locking all together and I'm surrounded? I tried to use the switch system but, thats what I got.

This is exactly what it is for me. Switch just got annoying, since I wanted to stop locking on at some point, hit the button again, and it just locks on to something else! Talk about annoying. The only thing I don't like about hold is that in long boss battles my finger gets cramped. That wasn't an issue in TP though, because the boss battles weren't that long, but in OoT and MM, well, it was pretty rough having my finger cramping up all the time, and if I had to replay the boss it was even worse.
I have no idea what I have mine on. I can use both, as they both have their pros and cons.
Hold gets annoying with having to keep your finger there the whole time, and Switch is hard when you're surrounded, and you don't want to target. I don't have a preferred one, but I tend to just use the default.
Well. I would vote for both. Mainly if I'm not really thinking about it, and I just press it, I usually hold it for some odd reason, but if I'm actually thinking about that button then I'll release it.
Odd.

It shouldn't take hours at a time to defeat the enemy/ies!
I use hold. Always have, probably always will. Like others said, I like to stop targeting at some point, but with switch you just alter enemies unless you hold it down i think, and releasing a button is far easier.

I've always used the hold targetting. It's just easier for me to use, and I've been doing it the same way for 5 years. So I haven't bothered with trying to get used to the switch target.

people are complaining about the switch option because they think its hard to lock off a enemy, i think i mentiond this before, if you hold the analoge stick back and then press z, you will lock off the target instantly, its nothing hard about that.
