View Full Version : Lanmolas in LttP.

I've been playing the GBA Link to the Past for the last couple of days. Last night I played the desert palace.
I usually beat the three Lanmolas the same way I've beaten them for years; aim for the head, and keep swinging. But last night, I figured I'd do something different. So I got out the old ice rod, and when one of them stuck their head above the surface, I fired off a shot. One well placed shot to the head, and it died instantly. I tried again on the other two, and killed them both very quickly.
I did manage to get a few sword swipes in before I decided to try the ice rod, so I can't say that it's a one-hit kill. But it made surprisingly short work of all three of them. Also, I've only tried it on the GBA version. My SNES version, like everything else I own, is in a box somewhere right now.

Interesting - I don't think I've ever used the ice rod on them. I remember taking 10 minutes to kill the armos knights in the East Palace with my boomerang, because I ran out of arrows :p
Next time I'll try this :)

I actually tried this before. Really by an accident is how it happened I guess you could say. I was bringing up the items menu and then accidentally chose the Ice Rod(this was on a computer so that's how I happened to do that >__>) and I had used it and saw it was definitely a very effective method. I, myself, can't really remember if it killed in one hit though.

I'm actually in the Desert Palace in a walkthrough for ALttP that I'm currently making, so I'll definetly give it a shot.

I'm surpized more people didn't know about this. I forget where in the game, but you can find a clue about this somewhere (I think on a sign). I usually don't even bother because it is so hard to get a hit on them.

The only clue I can think of is "A helpful item is hidden in the cave on the east side of Lake Hylia.Get it!" Which doesn't exactly scream "Get it, and use it on the monsters in the Desert Palace."
I know you can get it fairly early in the game. A bit earlier than I used to even bother with, which is probably why it took so long to notice.

Sounds neat. I might try go try it. I always wondered if the Ice Rod had any real use.

Hmm, never thought of using the ice rod. Always preferred the tried and true spin attack till dead stratagem.
I think I've always used. I got a guide that came with the GBA Game, and it said to go there and get it. I think I've really only used it once, 1st time I ran out of Magic,Second, I ran out of Magic, and 3rd I actually killed them all in about 30 seconds.

I always just used cause aiming with the arrows was too hard with their erratic movements.

Yeah I mainly just use a walkthrough book for alttp and it said in the book that you can use the ice rod so i already new about that. But crap its stinking hard using the ice rod on them anyway, so i use my sword.

I never really knew this or ever really tried to do this. I usually never got the Ice Rod this early in the game. I always new it was in that southeast corner of Hyrule, but it just seemed out of the way to get it. I'll surely try this out next time I do play through A Link to the Past.
I can't imagine it being THAT hard to hit them within the ice rod. I used to try and be safe and just use my arrows to hit them, but that took incredible aim. I'm sure my practice with the arrows will make it so that I have decent accuracy and timing with the ice rod.

i always try to hit them with it ( i remember i tried it because the elder said to go find the ice rod so i thought i had to use it on the boss) i might have killed them with it a few times but i always run out of magic so i finish them off with spin attacks =D

Here is my stradegy: Step infront of a hole (not on it). Then press B like as if this was the last time your GBA/SNES would work! It works, but you might need a fairy...

I tried it a while ago. It doesn't instantlly kill one, but it does a lot of damage. And yes, it is really hard to hit them with it. I ran out of magic.

The Ice Rod does work well, but it's hard to get a hit. I used to kill them this way all the time, but lately I've just gone to using my sword.

I replayed the temple and before the boss battle I got out the ice rod. I ran out of magic trying to kill them, but one took 5 hits and still survived. It took 2 hits from the sword after that.

I just got ALttP today, and I just completed the Temple where the Lanmolas are (forgot the name already :shy:) and I tried the Ice rod on them a few times, but only hit them one once before I ran out of magic. I just used my sword and my arrows after that. It's just too hard to aim with the Ice rod, and the limited magic hurts as well. I prefer sword over Ice rod.

You can get the Ice rod as soon as you take Zelda to the Sanctuary, just go to Kakariko, gather money, buy a bottle, get the other from the Tavern, get the net, some bombs in the cave that has a well outside and voilá:)
