Has anyone else ever used Zelda Classic? It's similar to Zelda 1, but it's for computers and it allows you to make your own quests and play quests that other people made. I almost never see mention of it on Zelda sites unless they specialize in Zelda Classic.

They are actually an Ally site of Zelda Dungeon.

Actually, our partnership will be even closer in the next few weeks. They are part of the big plans we got going on at the main site, which of course I won't disclose any more information on. :)
But ya, their site is really well done. Downloadable fan game editor as well as downloadable user created quests. Any Classic Zelda fan game enthusiast dream come true.

Actually, I downloaded this about 3 years ago, and back then I had no idea how to use it or what to do. Since then I've never really thought about it. Looking at other people's creations though, it looked awesome. I remember someone included the fire and ice rods, someone even made a hookshot I believe.

This actually looks pretty cool. I should make a game with this and tell my brother that a new Zelda game was made. He would be so happy, and the ending could say "Daer [insert name here], you have completed The Legend of Zelda: [insert title here], please call the following number: 1-800-966-2662." If anyone hasn't figured it out that number has a message in it. :P
I've never heard of Zelda Classic until just now, actually. I'm currently downloading it and it should be a blast! I'm sure it won't be as customizable as something like C++ or C#, but should be far easier to use.

A warning for Vista users: the last relatively stable version (2.10) doesn't seem to work on Vista, so Vista users may have to grab one of the 2.11 or 2.50 betas.

So that explains why it doesn't work on my desktop...
I have ZC on my laptop. I like how you can download all those extra quests and stuff, some of them are pretty fun.

All Zelda Classic (well actually ZQuest) is, is well just a map editor. You actually have to run Zelda Classic to even run your project. It doesnt even come close to game designing. It is just something for fans that have no clue how to design games to bring their own ideas out to life.
I persoanlly love their Zelda remakes more than their ZQuest thing, I used to be into it, but found out it wasn't my thing considering I can do the real deal.

The latest version will have scripting capabilities, allowing for more flexibility in creating games. You can also modify the graphics...some ZC quests have themes like Mario, Metroid, etc. because the graphics are changed.

Exactly, you edit the map actors, in newbie terms, the graphics.

I think we are clearly missing the point to what Zelda Classic really is... It isn't about a 'skill level' when creating a fan game. If somebody uses the software I wouldn't classify them as a 'noob'. It is made to simplify things and make it so that almost anybody can create a game. Similar to say... vBulletin. You can do almost all the same things with phpBB, but vBulletin just makes it so much easier. Don't see anything wrong with simplifying software. :)
I haven't used Zelda Classic much in recent times. At one point I was addicted to Zelda fan games and just downloaded a whole bunch of them, but recently, just haven't tried it much. I'd have to say, if I wasn't a webmaster of a Zelda site but still loved the series as much as I do, I'd probably end up downloading the Zelda Classic editor and making my own fan game. Just don't have the time, so isn't something I could really do. Nonetheless, Zelda Classic is a great site for hardcore Zelda fan that wants their own quest.

Though this is a very old and very dead topic, I would like to point out that Zelda Classic actually requires a certain skill level. People like CastChaos (creator of the epic "Ballad of a Bloodline" quest) actually require quite a bit of programming knowledge to do what they do.
Yes, I said it, a halfway decent ZC quest takes programming.
And even if they lay everything out for you, there's still the level of creativity that no software, no matter how good, can spare you. You need to be a good cartographer. You need to have good graphics.
On PureZC, people actually work together on quests to achieve the ends. It takes a decent staff to make a good quest even with the help of ZC.
So please, don't insult us. It's no easier than using BYOND or AGS.
