View Full Version : Would your love for Zelda take you this far?

Would you ever name your pets, child, or even change your name to be similar to a name in anyone of the games in the Legend of Zelda series?
I personally do not see anything wrong in it, but a little "eh" on the thought of someone deciding to change their name to Link and declare his wife change her name to Zelda.
I guess that depends on how much of a fan you are, if you'd really go that far. If someone would change their name, then go for it. But would you go this far?

I'd never change my name. Or name my children after Zelda characters. Perhaps a pet - maybe, but never anything serious.

One of my friends named his dog Zelda. Hehe. I thought it was hilarious.
As for me, I think I'd name one of my pets Zelda or Link. Child or name change, now that is quite rediculous if you ask me.

I would name a pet something from Zelda...but not a person...thats kinda obbsesive.

Obsession? Maybe not that extreme, we'll call it "dedication".
But I can understand certain names, such as Zelda given to a child. Since it well, obviously is a name. But a name like Link would be pushing it.

I've been thinking about naming a pet after a Zelda character before. Of course they weren't my dogs, so there wasn't much I could say.

I'll probably name one of my pets after one of the Sages in OoT at some point.

As for naming a child or changing your name, I definitely wouldn't do that. It's just pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I probably would name a pet Zelda though.

I'm quite surprised, I thought some people would be open to names in the series for children. But I guess that's why everyone have an opinion. I think some of the names that seem more of common, but names that sound like something written in a story by J.R.R Tolkien would be ridiculous.

Alright.
So the most common answers are:
Pets - Sure.
Children & Name changes - Never.
So I suppose in continuation of this topic: Would you go as far as naming a child after a movie, or other game? In honour of an arthor or other famous person?
I'd assume that some people MAY be okay with naming a child after someone famous. But I suppose I'll wait and see the responses. :)

Pets, Yes.
Name change, No.
Child's name, Never.
Thats just silly.

I don't see anything wrong with naming your child after a character from the Zelda series, but some names would most definately not be used by anyone in their right, or wrong. Zelda is a real name, and although not common, is still used. One of my parents' friends have a nefew who married someone named Zelda(phew O_O.) But then again, I see aything wrong with the name Midna, it's not a bad name actually. Along with some great names, inevitably comes some bad names as well.
I think that some names, such as Sheik, Link, or Ganondorf, would be completely out of the question. Can you imagine someone naming their kid Ingo? I don't think he or she would be very happy with his or her parents' choice of names.

i would never change my name to zelda. i like my name as it is now. maybe i would name my pet after a zelda character. I was thinking about a new goldfish, so maybe i call him Link.

I would never change my name. I mean sure, I'd go by a nickname. But thats a nickname.
This guy that I've seen at my Barnes & Noble has the Hylian Shield and Master Sword tattooed on his arm. I'm thinking of maybe getting the Triforce done on my left hand or maybe the Goron symbol on my arm. Or maybe both. They both look cool.
Lenora Dragon
02-13-2008, 04:26 PM
Well ZeroLink, you're not the only person who considered getting the left hand tattooed with the triforce. Alder Dragon is basically determined to get it done as well, I guess it's a male thing.
linkman8
02-13-2008, 04:33 PM
Couldn't that potentially be a risky thing to get, considering you'd be getting a tattoo over the veins on your hand?
Anyway, from Lenora Dragon's question, I'd think about naming like a kid or something after a famous person, I mean people do it all the time.

Hah, I already have a cat called Zelda... :)
Lenora Dragon
02-17-2008, 01:52 PM
Well, any body modification is risky. But I suppose having it relatively close to your veins would give more chances for problems.
I suppose the whole question containing naming children after famous people goes in hand with how Princess Zelda was named after a famous person (I believe she was famous, or perhaps her fame was through her husband). I think it is okay to a degree, such as if you see a name in Legend of Zelda that you were unaware of before and it works, then by all means, use it. But if you name a child in honour of a character, then that's pushing it a bit.

I'm willing to take the risk though :) I just think a Triforce tattoo would be awesome.

I have a friend who got the Triforce tatooed on his right shoulder...but thats the closest i've seen to something like it on your hand.
It would be pretty cool though :)

Robin Williams is a huge Zelda fan, and named his daughter Zelda.

I guess that isn't too bad...but if you name your son Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, thats a little far.

I would totally give my child a name from the Zelda series. I think that'd be the coolest thing ever to have the same name as the Hero of Time. I've actually got planned out the name of my first fifteen childeren. I keep finding good names and saying "I'd name my next child that." My seventh child will be named Link, assuming I get that far. I'm not sure if I'll even get beyond one or two, though. I just like to be prepared. My first child will be named Optimus Prime, unless it's a girl. If it's a girl, then Arcee. Plus, nobody will get the reference unless they're like thirty right now, and by that time, they'll be at least forty, and everyone will think them senile because forty is when you're officially old. I don't consider people to be old until they're fifty-five, but damn do I like making fun of my manager at work.

You guys are speaking of these names like they first appeared in the Zelda series. The name Zelda has been around for a looong time.
But huh, I say if Robin Williams can do it, then its cool with me, but I personally wouldnt go too overboard with it.

Believe it or not, the inspiration for Zelda's name in LOZ originated from Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of the American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald.

And it's things like that, that are more rational. I'd do something like that, but go as far as naming my child after a Zelda character seems a little irrational.

I would never do a namechange, i like my name how it is now and a name change cost a lot
My cat is named Zelda, after the series. My brother and I are biiig Zelda fans, and my parents agreed that it was a nice name. So when we got our cat a few years ago, we named her Zelda. Though we mostly call her 'Zeldie' now
If I had pets: Maybe
If I had kids: As long as the name was a real name (such as Zelda), maybe
Name Change: Never

I think a sweet name for a dog would be Raru.
Zelda is a real name taken from the german language I think. naming my child after a zelda character I dunno... Unless I can think of one that is kinda common or not WAY out there I don't think i would do it.

No... Calling anything a name that relates to Zelda in any way is disgusting. For starters, even if Zelda is a German name, he'd get bullied and teased at School like hell and other kids parents would be highly ashamed of me. Infact, I'd feel ashamed with myself, I'd be such a loser to call my own child something based on a Game, it sort of indicates that games are more important than family.
I also wouldn't call my Pet by the name of a Zelda character, it's just too nerdish and stupid.

Yeah, I'd pretty sure I know what I'm saying and the fact that I know Zelda is a girls name. If I named my Child "Link" "Zelda" "Epona" "Malon" or whatever, I'm sure School kids would atleast be familiar with those names from a Game that stands out, also the name "Zelda" is german, I think you know where that leads... Well we aren't viewing this from that angle, point is though, using a name given from a video game is just stupid.
Thewindmaker
07-10-2008, 08:02 PM
So then what about the people who were named Zelda, before the series actually existed.
And the reason he pointed out that Zelda is a girls name is because in your2nd last post you said "he" would be made fun of.
Many of the names from Zelda have been seen before, I would not be surprised if people have names from the game, who don't even know the game exists.
