In case you didn't know, there are three different upgrades you can get in PH. Two of them are for your Sword, and the other is for your Shield. To get the upgrades you have to get at least 10 gems for each of the things...Power (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda12PowerGems.php), Wisdom (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda12WisdomGems.php), and Courage (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda12CourageGems.php).

Anyway, what upgrade did you use most in PH?
I used the Power upgrade, mainly because it made my Sword stronger, and fire is cool :p

Power all the way :) , mainly because it makes you stronger.
But it looks pretty cool aswell when fully upgraded.

I have got 19 power gems and the 20th is supposed to come in the post from King Mutoh but it hasn't. Any idea why?

Heh, Power is owning.

if you have 20 wisdom gems, some enemies will be stunned when they hit your shield

I used a combination of the three, almost evenly, but I commonly left Wisdom on. I've always gone by "Defense is the greatest offense", or whatever it is.

In Phantom Hourglass, the enemies never really harmed me much. I had a nice amount of heart containers, and always kept two purple or yellow potions with me. I never really had any trouble with enemies hurting me, so I didn't use Wisdom. I could never aim the beam blade correctly, and it didn't seem to really harm my enemies much more than I did with the regular sword, so I stuck with Power. I'd rather kill my enemies quickly everytime I'm in a battle, rather than be safer, yet have to fight longer.

Surprisingly, I beat Bellum without an upgrades. After I beat the game, however. I started to use Power though.

Same here. I actually didn't find Spirit Island until AFTER I beat the game.

Because of the pure easyness of the game, I think it all but made the Wisdom Upgrade useless. However, I think if people are having difficulties with some bosses, than it could be usefull.

I used the Courage Upgrade for awhile, because I was overly excited about the Beam Blade Attack returning, but that quickly died out for me.

The Power Upgrade is the only one that makes sense. Most the enemies in the game are so simple with the upgraded flaming sword. Besides, Links flaming sword just looks sweet. :)

Meh, I think the majority of the game I used the power upgrade, but near the end it started to waver towards the wisdom upgrade.

REALLY because I cannot find one of the power gems. I've looked through the gem guide about 50 times but I dont know which I didnt get and I cant be bothered to go to every single one :p

Also, on the last boss, use the wisdom and run into the purple blobs it throws. No real effect, oh yesh. ;)

Agreed, the defensive upgrade would only really be useful in boss battles and tough spots in certain dungeons. I really don't think these gems were required at all though - I would have rather seen other upgrades in the game. Perhaps newer shields, such as the Mirror shield again, along with some newer tunics. I beat the entire game with three hearts, no shield, and no upgrades, and it wasn't much of a challenge at all.

To be honest I never actually got all of the gems. I got most of the power gems, but not all of them; and don't even get me started on the wisdom and courage gems. I'll have to get them all to see what the best upgrades are like some day.

Same here :p I just have like 13 of each.
I'll probably use the guide here to get the rest of them ;)

I was terrible at finding the gems, so it took me a long time to get the needed amount of power gems for the upgrade. I'm never too good when it comes to finding things on Zelda.

i would have used the courage upgrade if you could lock on the enemies. then it would be more usefull.

btw, even that i love the power upgrade much, its a little disspointing that there wasn't a second shield in the game. i mean a blazing fire sword with a wooden shield. not excactly a good match. :p

The upgrade i used a lot was the power upgrade.I found it very annoying finding all the gems,i had to look at the guide here a million times to tell the truth.

I mostly had the Wisdom spirit on, because I thought that the extra power was kinda pointless, and the Beamblade was a little awkward with the PH controls. Also, I had fun bashing into Chuchu's and stunning them :D.

I'm a speed freak so I went with the power. Best offense=best defense in my book.

I thought the power upgrade was pretty pointless except for bosses actually. Most of the enemies only take one or two hits to kill. So I usually just keep the Wisdom on. I haven't gotten the hang of the Courage upgrade yet.
