Ok, ever since A Link to the Past, we have yet to see true tunics used in any Zelda game. The old school tunics would prevent damage by 1/4,1/2 etc...but the new tunics we see are like the ones in OoT to where it used against an element (fire, water), which is good and all, but what ever happened to the good ole tunics from back in the day.
Twilight Princess actually had the Magic Armor which made Link pretty much invincible, but it was VERY limited, it used rupees...and even if you had 1000 rupees, the armor would lose its power within the minute, and Link couldnt even move, even slower than when he has the Iron Boots on.
I would love to see the return of the mails/tunics from ALttP as a defense factor, as well as a few new ones that are used against elements.

With the Magic Armor you only moved slow if you ran out of rupees, otherwise you ran actually faster than with the other things on.
I really actually like that they use what they use now. Sure, the tunics were good and all, but I tend to like these better.

i think in the latest zelda games nintendo tried to maintain link 's original clothing.
in stead of the tunics like in alttp, in oot cou could upgrade your hearts that enemy attacks would be halved. in WW you had the magic armor that drained magic. magic armor in tp drained rupees wich was really strange and its sucking up rupees like a vacuum, if nintendo had not decided to scrap the magic meter in this game, then i'm sure it would drain magic in stead of rupees ( but why rupees come on, with magic you can refill yourself with a potion or at least slow down the draining of rupees)

I would like to see the return of the defensive tunics as well...but maybe Nintendo didn't want them in the 3D Zelda games. We might see a return of them if theres ever another 2D Zelda...

I thought it was funny in Zelda 1, where you get a ring and your clothes change colour. Did the ring have paint in it or something?

It would be cool to have a series of armor additions that Link can get, much like say, Mega Man in the Mega Man X titles. Where there are loose armor upgrades to his helmet, arms, legs, body, etc... They had special names and all but that's basically what it was. I think that would be kind of cool. Using that in addition to the different tunics that Link already has. I liked the water and fire tunics from Ocarina of Time. The Water tunic in Twilight Princess is sweet as well.
Personally, I loved t he tunics in a Link to the Past. Just though Blue and Red Link looked cool. In the original Legend of Zelda, I'd always get the blue ring before the first dungeon, and then the red ring not until I am at the last dungeon. Thus, I'm White Link the whole time. :( Hehe

I'm thinking something like there are some kinds of tunics in hidden stores around the area in future Zelda games and then you can like store them in a seperate thing in the items menu. I just think that would be cool xD

Yeah, I do that too. I think "White Link" is really supposed to be light blue, but he always looked white to me too. It's impossible to get the Red Ring until you have all 8 triforce pieces though, so you can't do it before level 9.
I'd also get the 3 heart containers and White Sword right away. When I started the second quest, I thought it was a lot harder at the beginning because I couldn't get enough hearts for the White Sword yet and had to actually use the wooden one!

Yes its a blue tunic Mases, remember it was only 8 bit color back then ;). And Mooncheese, the point of magic rings is well magic, not paint...*sighs*

Maybe it's magic paint.

He said it's not paint. It was just some magic in the rings. You know that Zelda doesn't have to make sense. It's not paint >.>

I was kinda ashamed that Nintendo didn't put any new tunics in Phantom Hourglass or WW. I'd like to see the return of the Blue and Red rings, that would be great.

but loose armor upgrades reminds me of metroid prime series.
i also remeber these potions in TMC when link temporarly changes to red/blue/purple tunic.
red was boosted attack, blue was boosted def, and purple was half attack half def boost.

Actually I'm kind of glad to see the armored tunics gone. Having half damage taken throughout the game with no down side was pretty boring in my opinion. YOu guys might see it differently though.
Maybe they could bring back the tunics, but in a different way. Maybe an armored tunic which would half the damage taken, but also half the damage given. Or a light-weight tunic could double the damage taken and given. Or possibly a more "magical" feel would be necessary, where you got the magic ring again. The ring's magic could focus it's power on your sword making it's attacks stronger, but while lowering your defenses. And the ring, or possibly a second ring, could also do the opposite where it focused it's magic on Link's tunic.

That was actually done a lot in the Oracle games. I heard you haven't played them though. In the oracle games, there are a bunch of rings (I think around 50 or so, just a guess) that do random things. There were many rings that acted like that. (Do double damage, but get hurt double) etc.

I like the tunics but if they did it in ww and ph it would look like the fourswords link. Also it would be cool in future zelda games it was sort of like an rpg when buying clothing like tunics, hats, swords, etc. You could have different colors that represent powers and they're be a big selection. Once u buy a tunic u keep it, but the tunics are a lot of rubees.

Sounds like a good idea. Kind of like an Elder Scrolls type system of armor-obtaining, except with tunics. And you have to buy the tunics instead of just finding them. Sounds cool to me.

Rupees...not rubees, you have been Gannon-banned...yet again.
Bump.
I too would love to see a wide collection of tunics and mails. Having them being purchased is a great idea...that will give Nintendo an excuse to actually put more than just a few towns in a Zelda game.

I would like to see the return of Magic rings too. New tunics would be cool as well. I LOVED that magic armor, I just wish it wasn't so limiting. Link looked like a pimp with that on.

I was also thinking about suits from the metroid series, but thats too futuristic. if they were to take the idea of the Varia Suit then it would be the same as the goron tunic (allowed you to resist extreme tempratures) as for the the gravity suit, well we never could be able to run at normal speed because:
1.without the iron boots you cant stay underwater
2.you can only walk underwater with the iron boots on, which slow you down
but maybe the gravity suit rip-off could eliminate the iron boots weight! ive even got a name for it:Gravity Tunic

What about a suit with electric defences or something, where if an enemy touched you, they would be zapped and stunned, or hurt too?
I think that would be a nice upgrade.

We have the Green Holy Ring in the Oracles that gives you 100% protection from electricity, but it dosen't really make you electric though... But I really think that when it comes to Links clothes, it should really be pretty simple. LOZ and ALttP just had different tunics/rings that gave you more armor, simple and great. LADx let you choose between a red tunic and a blue one, witch gave you more offence or defence. Simple too. OoT made you breathe under water or be immune to extreme heat. Nothing complex. When it comes to things like electricitytunics that shoot sparks, or shadowtunics that let you go through walls, or timetunics that let you manitulate time or whatever, it just becomes... weird. Nah, I say stay with defence-upgrading. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

On the same tolken it wouldnt be so bad to upgrade and have tons of abilities either, I'd say that it's actually nice to have a ton of powers and abilities with distinct advantages and disadvantages.
Dare I suggest customisable tunics/armor/shields/rings?

Well, Link have always been customizable. You choose which weapons you wield, which all have very distinc advantages and disadvantages. In OoT and TP you can also pick different swords and tunics, making it more cusomizable. And Oracles of course with alot of rings. I think it's a great concept, and it should evolve with the series. Haven't played PH, but you can customize your ship there as I understand it. Great idea, and i would love to be able to customize weapons - but just to a certain point. Maybe have a bow that have shorter range but deals more damage to it's counterpart with a longrange "sniper"-bow but with less damage.

I meant actual weapon design and stuff. Link oftentimes has family relations with sword smiths and stuff, so it wouldn't be too hard to have a "create your own weapons and armor" thing going on, where you could design them and stuff.

I absolutely loved to get the red ring in the last dungeon of the LoZ. Red is a nice color of a tunic. If the new games were more difficult I would want tunics that reduce damage. But I see no reason if they keep up with the easyness!! (Can you say so )

Personally, i think having different tunics and rings with advantages and disadvantages would be a great idea, but im not too sure about the customizable weapons thing. maybe rings and tunics you could wear at the same time, but i think much more than that would stray from traditional zelda. Something like you can wear one tunic, two rings, but the tunics have more effect than the rings, and the rings take magic whenever their effect comes in (ex. one that increases defence, whenever you get hit a little bit of magic goes down) and maybe certain rings that cant be worn together because they counter-act. That would be a great idea, and lead to much more challenging dungeons where you need to switch between rings and tunics, and maybe even special hidden effects when two things are put together (whether it be good or bad). The game its self would be much more challenging, but fun if put together correctly. just an idea.

I liked the tunics in ootbut i think link should change his costume if u beat the game sort of like in wind waker.(I would like to see Link running around slashing stuff in a panda suit or a tuxedo or something like that)

That would be nice, but where's the fun in going around the place with an invincible suit?
I would've prefered a magic bar for the magic suit.

I had the idea (for a fangame concept,) of having the elemental tunics, which I liked, but also adding in the defense upgrade.
You see, the idea was that after doing a sidequest, you could upgrade a tunic to a mail, and then to armor. Each would be a defensive upgrade. And you could do this with all the tunics. Like this:
Kokiri Tunic, Kokiri Mail, Kokiri Armor...
Goron Tunic, Goron Mail, Goron Armor...
Zora Tunic, Zora Mail, Zora Armor...
