Saw this in the 'useless item' thread and think it deserved its own topic.
Okay, in all honesty, In Ocarina of Time, the deku nuts were one of the first items I got and I used it on like all these random enemies, yet I never really figured exactly what it did. Supposedly they are supposed to be useful when fighting Gohma??? Not so sure how useful they can possibly be, since using the slingshot and sword defeats Gohma in a matter of seconds.
Did anybody ever really use these at all? Is there some hidden use that I just never realized these things were good far? Heck, they probably have some sort of use, but after using them at first early on in the game, I realized how useless they were and just never bothered with them.

What the deku nuts were for, were to freeze your enemies, kind of like a return of the 'clock' from LoZ.

I never used the deku nuts, they are useless because they can't be used as a weapon, it only stuns and doesn't hurt the enemie.

only time i used them was in lord jabu jabu. they were handy against those floating bubbels before you get the boomerang and it was also handy again those flying creatures that would fly toward you. not the biri but the one that has wings and they hide in the water unless you got close. with a deku nut you could pop them out of the water and then fire at them with your slingshot at a distance.

I didn't use the Deku Nuts at all. They were pretty much useless in my eyes. I didn't really need to use them. They were used for temporarily paralyzing your enemies. Plus, you couldn't find them everywhere. I just didn't think highly of them.

The only time I can remember using the Deku Nuts was in the Forest Temple to freeze the Stalfos so I could kill them faster...but other than that I didn't really use them. If they could teleport you like what Impa did in OoT, they would be awesome.

Heh, that would be awesome. Using the Deku Nuts to teleport. It would make navigating much more easier, that's for sure. The only reason they had teleporting in Twilight Princess was because the place was big.

I used them to Stun Enemies like Stalfos... And I still do.
I found a use for them finally.. in Master Quest. In the Spirit Temple, when you go through the hole as kid Link, there are some torch slugs in there, and for some reason, a bunch of **** doesn't work on them when you're kid Link, but nut + stab seems to work alright.

Nearly every Zelda game made had some type of warping, not just Twilight Princess.

Yes, but in Twilight Princess there were so many warp points. Like in Ocarina of Time you could only warp to the Temples.

I wish you could've used something to teleport to places like Hyrule Field, or Kokiri Forest, or places like that. Not just places close to them. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Yes, but remember..LoZ you warped throughout Hyrule, same with ALttP, and etc.

Yes, but the land in Twilight Princess was so vast. Therefore making it way too hard to navigate without warping or Epona. Even with Epona it took a while.

lol sudennly the subject changed from deku nuts to warping. the only connection i see with deku nuts and warping is sheik and impa, with their neat little trick when they dissapear.

Hah, actually...
I used the deku nuts Item Slot as a bottle, using the bottle glitch. That was the first time around though. Using them in combat, I stunned Lizalfos and Stalfos, since the hookshot always seemed to miss.

I really never knew they were of much use against stalfos. The next time I play through I'll be sure to try and give it a shot. Guess they weren't as useless afterall, just my personal preference/ignorance to not want or know how to use them properly.

its not a usless item, the thing is almost no ones use it because its not a primary weapon. like the most of the people, they equip bow/slingshot, hookshot/boomerang, ocarina.
and of course they are handy fagainst a stalfos, well at least for beginners ( i think )
stallfosses are only open after they attack and then defend in a instant. so if they try to attack tou can stun them with a deku nut to gain more time to hit him with a jump attack ect.

Deku Nuts are awesome in swordfightes. Stuns the enemy, and is way faster than the hookshot. I use them alot against Stalfos, Lizfalzos etc.

finnaly the deku nut makes its return, not in a zelda game but in SSBB.
The deku nuts in MM was pretty funny with the deku mask. flying around and throw the deku nuts like bomb below you. it was pretty handy at the start when you went to the swamp.

I just always forgot to use Deku Nuts, but they can be very useful, especially if you're trying to complete the game in record time. They work very well against a lot of enemies: Floor Masters, ReDeads, Like Likes, Fire Bubbles, Biri, Bio Deku Babas, Hiploops, Pirates, Boes, Wolfos, the list goes on. Personally, I thought they were a little more helpful, though less in supply, in Majora's Mask.

I used them on the first dungeon on enemies just for the heck of it. Never used them ever again XD

I've been a fan of the Deku Nuts for a while, I think there's something in small flashes that excite me :P It did take a while before I realized that Sheik and Impa used Deku Nuts in order to disappear and stuff.
In terms of use, I mostly used it in Jabu Jabu's belly and if I would want to spice up battle a little by doing something different for once. I don't really use them, though. Just for fun.

yes, it seems i'm not the only one who thinks that the deku nuts are really handy in lord jabu's jabu belly. those annoying stingrays doesn 't stand a chance with the deku nuts.

I tended to forget about the Deku nuts majority of the time, because I had the slingshot to do the job for me. To this day I don't use them that much.

Same here.
Back in the day when I was a little kid playing OoT, whenever I fought a Stalfos, I HAD to have them Deku Nuts.
I hardly use 'em now...

I liked Deku nuts in OoT, though I only really used them for entertainment *remembers "watch, I'm Sheik!" BANG, Deku nut explodes* and I used them a little bit against the Gerudo that you have to fight in the Gerudo fortress. Besides that, they were just another item.

Ii actually liked the deku nuts and they were usefull with young link before you got the boomerang. And it's one of the only items that both links can use.

I used Deku Nuts early in OOT, but I never used them after getting the boomerang.
I use them so little, I may as well say I never do.
I think... ever, I've only used them up to 5 times per OoT/MM.

I don't use them for practical purposes but as others have said I use them for fun. They remind me of little gunpowder snaps I used to play with as a kid.
Actually, I found them more useless in MM than I did OoT. I relied heavily on bubbles and rarely used the nuts.
And they are quicker than the hookshot, because there's no penalty of having your hook go too far.
I think the only times I've ever used the Deku Nuts was by mistake. I have never really felt the need to use them, and mostly when I go to the Inventory Screen, I just skip over them, like they aren't even there. Barely ever think about them throughout the entire game.

as easy as it is to beat OOT without the use of Deku nuts, there are points in the game were they can be of alot of help.
on Queen Ghoma, and Jabu Jabu bellys boss, along with a few others are adult link, they can prove to be quite usefull. As well on some of the Half way bosses throughout the game.

I only ever used them on Gohma the first few times I played the game, then I realized how much easier the slingshot was (first zelda game I played - and I didn't realize most bosses in zelda games are vulnerable to that dungeons treasure)

I think my first times through OoT I used it on Queen Ghoma but after that I pretty much just ignored them.
I did like bombing my enemies with them in Majora's Mask as Deku Link though.

Well some enemies would run around in circles making it harder to attack them without them dodging or you just got tired of chasing them. The deku nuts came in handy when you just wanted to get the kills over with faster.

Well honestly, I have never used the Deku Nuts. They seem to be the second most useless item. All they do is stun, and then when you hit the enemy, they unfreeze. I will never get why they included the Deku nut as an item.

I always used the deku nuts for fun around Hyrule. I used them against Queen Gohma and I always use them to get away from tektites.

I don't generally use them much, but in my recent playthrough, I've been making an effort to use them (and some other items) more. I liked using them to stun Skulltulas for a while, before I got the bow and could just take them out in one hit.

I use the Deku Nuts every now and then. Sometime I use them on enemies just for fun, other times I'll use them on Wolfos, Stalfos, and a few others. It makes killing them go faster.

Oh, there was one room in the Spirit Temple, and during my recent playthrough, I couldn't quite figure out how to hold down this one pressure switch. The only thing I could think of was stunning the Armos standing all over once they were standing on the switch.
I used the Deku Nuts, and it worked. I suppose the Hookshot might have made it a bit easier, though, if it even works on Armos. I also may have not been supposed to do that, but I'm not sure.

Other than the cool sound they make when they explode, they're pretty much useless to me.
You can defeat Gohma without the Deku Nuts? Uh, guess I never tried that. :O
Beyond Gohma, I never used Deku Nuts in OoT, though in MM I like to run around slamming a Deku Nut in front of any enemy that cares to look.

The only times I found the Deku Nuts usefull was when fighting several enimes at once, but even then I rarely used them. However, they were useful for freezing enimies and then placing them on pressure switches and whatnot. They were slightly useful against redeads, too.
And I also don't understand how they could possibly be useful agaist Gohma. She was constantly moving around on the ceiling, moreover, it was faster, for me at least, to just attack her with your sword when she was knocked on the ground then to use Deku Nuts.
Well you don't attack Gohma with the Deku Nuts - you wait till she hops down from the ceiling, then you slam a Deku Nut in front of her, stunning her. While stunned, slash. She climbs back up and the process repeats.

I never knew that the first time I played the game.
I was horrible back then, and it took me about 3 trys to beat Gohma, so I wish I had know that earlier.:(
