Was it a cool addition to the Zelda series? Or just a lousy add-on item to Twilight Princess.
Personally, I loved the spinner, from what I've played thus far. I only just beat Arbitor's Grounds. (I know, I'm slacking). However, I really did like how it was used. Quite different than your standard Zelda type item.
Fits well with the classic, 'how the heck does Link hold this many items' complaint, haha. That thing is huge.
I loved the boss fight in Arbitor's Grounds. Both parts used the spinner very nicely. I have yet to play the rest of the game, but do you use the Spinner much else? Or is it basicly a classic, dungeon item and that is it. Where you use it all the time in the one dungeon, but rarely ever afterwards. A classic trend in any Zelda game.

You use it in Hyryle Castle, other dungeons, certain areas in Hyrule, and lots of places when looking for heart pieces and other secrets.

Not a very good weapon, as you can fly right by the enemy your trying to hit with it and it doesn't do enough damage, I think they should have made it stronger.

i like the spinner, i used it often to get some hartpieces and you have to use it in another temple (i won't say which one ;) )

it was fun while it lasted. after arbiter grounds you really don't use it that much.
only for to get certain hearth pieces or for some swithes that you need to spin on.

Although you couldn't use it extremely frequently, I loved the spinner. I loved the ability to go really fast on the tracks, and in fact, one of my favorite bosses was the Stallord in the Arbiter's ground.

I thought it was a pretty good addition. I always find myself using it randomly. I thought it was fun to use it, and it added a new challenge. Having to jump off at just the right time. It had a big part in it.

It seemed to be one of those items you get in a dungeon and never really use again afterwards.

Well there were a couple of points in Hyrule Field where you could use it to grind up to a place where there's Heart Pieces or rupees, etc.

the spinner and the rod are more like key items in stead of items that you always use as weapon items.

But wasn't the rod useful when there was a statue around to kill monsters, moblins, etc?

yeah in the temple but the owl statues cannot attack. they where only for the sidequest and to use it as a platform to reach treasure chests.
but anyway we are talking about the spinner here so lets stay on topic.
as far as i can remember i used the spinner only 3 times at hyrule field. 2 for hearth pieces and 1 to a treasure chest that held 200 rupees.

I loved the Spinner, lol. I would ride it as much as possible, and sometimes I would ride in Hyrule Field for like 3 steps before it stoped moving.

When I got the spinner In Arbiter's Ground I thought this new item would allow Link to move faster. Yet The spinner ran out in a few moments I was so Disappointed. :( But then in The Temple of Time the room with scales and the million of spiders in it? using the spinner can easily destroy them. I sometimes use the spinner when LInk is surronded with enemies usually Spin Attack Then Spinner Ride. Mostly After Arbiter's Grounds its an attack item if you use it.

I've progressed much further in Twilight Princess now and I've come to realize how useless and uncessary this weapon is outside of Arbter's Ground.
Seriously, in the City in the Sky, there are two parts where you are outside and just to the side of the door, there is little extra area where you use the spinner to create a bridge between the sky islands. Was this really necessary? This type of puzzle isn't unusually, but in other games it would just be a simple switch you step on, or a block you place to hold the switch down. Though, in Twilight Princess, they just throw this little spot in, just to make the gamer pause, change weapons, use it once, then change weapons again.
Thus, I've come to the conclusion that this was a cool weapon to use within Arbiter's Grounds, but outside the Temple, it acts as a gimicky weapon that is just an add-on.

Well, the Spinner was pretty much useless. But not entirely. Yes, it didn't have much great use after that, but there is one part in the Cave of Ordeals you use the Spinner in, it's just real small and not too challenging though. I too would have liked to see the Spinner used more, but it wasn't. There's a few places in Hyrule Field where you can use the Spinner to reach heart pieces, but otherwise, pretty much useless outside of the Arbiter's Grounds. Except for a few places where it's required.

It was something I could use in combat, so I loved it...until the temple of time. I was stupid enough to try the spinner on the darknut. -_-
SL, Onilink, you guys both know me. You KNOW I would actually do that, but just don't say anything. XD

Of course its a pointless item, but you have to give Nintendo props for still coming up with original items after all these years.

You're right, there hasn't been many original items until Twilight Princess. The Spinner was one of the few that were original in Twilight Princess.

I do agree that Nintendo did do a good job with expanding on old items and introducing a few new items in Twilight Princess. I still think that they could have done more with the items in general. In particular with the spinner, it was great, but just more uses or more versability would be great. Was too restricted since it was all but useless unless it had a line thingy on a side wall like in Arbiters Grounds.

I do think that each Zelda game for the most part introduced a new item of some sort, or at the very least, expanded on old items. You can see that in almost all the games, starting with a Link to the Past. Naturally the inventories got bigger in the LTTP and LA era because of the overal 'expansion' of 2d gaming.
In the 64 era we got all the items in a 3d world and in Majora's Mask a ton of masks that each did something different. In terms of just items though, MM didn't have much new. The Oracle series worked the slingshot in a way with the seed sachel and see shooter with all the different seeds. Wind Waker had the Deku Leaf, a revamped Grappling Hook, the Wind Waker itself, and introduced all sorts of bait and misc reward items from enemies. Come to think of it, Phantom Hourglass was the first that didn't introduce 'new' items, but just reworked 6 classic Zelda titles, but since they were so different, it seemed fresh.
All in all, I applaud Nintendo for the innovation, but we should all expect more. The spinner was a lot of fun in Arbiter's Grounds and I think almost every would agree that it would have been much more fun if it was used elsewhere as well.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as Mases. The Spinner was fun in the Arbiter's temple, but outside it quickly devolved into a gimmick. I would like to see it expanded on, perhaps with added abilities in future Zelda games. For example, eliminate the need for Spinner tracks. Let you cross smooth cliff wall using spikes on the Spinner to dig into rock face. Increase the power of Spinner. Make it devastating, a must have for taking on multiple enemies.
Lets come up with some ideas.

If only you could make the Spinner a self-sustained unit you could ride on across long distances while using your bow or sword to take out opponents. You see, the spinner ran out of momentum too quickly, I just wish it was as constantly fast on the ground as it was on the tracks.
Where you were able to use the Spinner, I absolutely loved it!
I thought it was a great addition as well.
Perhaps, yes, make it slightly stronger, or have more uses for it, but I'm still not complaining.

I found the spinner sorta useless because you only used it in arbiters grounds and a few places outside of arbiters grounds. And i also didn't like how the spinner would start to slow down after a while it wouldve been much better if it didn't slow down, thats what i think.

I did like it! It is not important for me to have to use an item frequently (plus some variation is always good).

You know, to me that really isn't an issue either. It isn't important that you have to use an item frequently... but just that you are CAPABLE of using the item frequently.
Take the Megaton Hammer from Ocarina of Time. In all honesty, you rarely ever had to use that item outside of the Fire Temple, BUT you could use it if you'd like. Given it was rather not as useful other weapons you could still physically use the hammer if you really wanted to. You really couldn't do that with the spinner since it had more or less no use at all outside of the dungeon.

Oh, I love the Spinner. It's more of ride but a fun one at that. Not really a weapon, but more of a tool like the Hookshot which can also double as a weapon. I think it's a good addition (not the best) but it might have a better purpose in a future game.

Very unique for Zelda. Though when I got it I was like "What did Mega Man drop something off awhile back?"
Hmmm. I could have sworn I posted in here. Aw well.
I'm not quite happy that it was like the second most unused item in the game, it really was a good item to use. Such as growing on what linkman said, that if they made it so the spinning could last forever, or just like a longer time, and make it faster, you could use it to go insanley fast across Hyrule Field when you didn't have Epona.
