I have recently been researching this subject (Yeah, I'm that hardcore) on Fierce Deity link and I've learned very little. Most websites have a paragraph of info such as wikipedia or Zeldawiki and It got me frustrated! However, what I did learn got me even more interested which drove me even further into the realm of insanity when I realized what little we knew about the character. I have learned that I could have been an evil spirit sealed into the mask by Majora, which is a possibility, or that he is Link's Terminan counterpart . . . or whatever, but I don't believe that theory at all. I've also learned that he could've been a form of the Twili before they we're "created" That is a possibility, but I personally think that the Deity was a demon from another realm enclosed in the mask by the three Goddesses. How Majora got his hands on the mask, I have no idea, but what EXACTLY is he?

I've thought it was both. Link's Terminian counterpart, but EVIL. Why not? Everything's mirrored, is it not? Why not have an Evil Link?

There are many models in Majora's Mask that were used in Ocarina of Time, which led some to believe each one has a counterpart. That may be true, but I strongly detest that theory. The Deity is most definitely evil. In the manga Fierce Deity Link slew the four moon children with no provocation at all.

I would say that Fierce Deity belonged to a tribe that existed a long time ago. That is what the transformation masks do, transform you into important members of other tribes.
So, that means that Fierce Deity Link is probably the Hero of the past, the past we know very little about.

The manga I read featured an extra at the end of it, with a wanderer who looked amost identical to the Fierce Diety. Although, he wasn't really evil. He just wandered around. He did kill Majora by playing a drum and making him dance himself to death. Then he carved Majora's armor into what now is known as Majora's Mask. But manga's are usually not canon to the games. But its never been proven otherwise so, thats my take on it.

That is true... it was completely cruel

But everyone should know by now that the manga isn't canon

The Mask Salesman was talking about the Tribe who Crafted the Majora's Mask...
Anyways, after TP it has been speculated that that tribe were the ancestors of the Twili, due to similarities in shape and design between the Majora's Mask and the Fused Shadow... But it is only speculation...Only time will tell if Nintendo goes through that way, or leaves speculation in the air

You know I don't think he's Link in any way. Whenever you transform into a Goron that's not like a separate Link, it's just Link in a different form. I do believe that somewhere along the line Fierce Deity Link was from some sort of ancient race never mentioned, but I'm definitely not sure about that.

maybe. But i still tihnk Feirce deity may have been from the ancient tribe who created Majora's Mask.

Maybe it's the Terminan counterpart of Dark Link

...he might be any of those things... ...he might not... ...he might be a Link from the past, brought back to life by dark magic... ...after all, he DOES look a bit like adult Link... ...who knows?...

I agree. I think the Fierce Deity Mask was crafted by the same tribe who made Majora's Mask in an effort to combat the evil mask, but none were heroic enough to use the FD mask to its full potential. Until Link, of course.

Before you all start yelling at me, I'll say it, to let you know I know it: the manga isn't canon. Still, their explanation of the origin of the mask and of the fierce diety is very plausible, you can check the main site's gallery to find the scans

This seems to be the most logical thing, but why would they say that it was an evil spirit housed in the mask and not a heroic spirit.

Well, those in Termina are not necessarily evil counterparts to those in Hyrule. They just happen to have the same forms.

I didn't think of that. Good point. Maybe the mask initially housed a good spirit but it turned evil. There could also be a possibility that the mask is neutral, but is mistaken for evil due to its immense power. Also, the ancient tribe may not have known how to make a mask with a good spirit.
Just throwing a bunch of theories out there.

I hate to contradict people, but, if there is a mask, first, there had to be someone, cause we all saw that the Transformation masks housed the spirit of a fallen person, so, the fierce diety wasn't only a spirit, but a person

Hmm, where do you think Majora got it from? That mystery haunts my mind, day and night.

There are several possibilities, one is the Majora/Twili connection... but none have been proved/disproved... and we can speculate, but nothing will be confirmed until a game says so... I REALLY HOPE THAT DAY'LL COME

Technically no one had said that Fierce Deity Link was evil All that anyone was told was that the mask had dark powers and most everyone starts calling him evil because Majora wants link to play the bad guy in a game of good guys and bad guys. So if this is a true statement then Majora would have just said that he was the good guy even though he was going to destroy everything in sight with the moon that he created. And I am not quite sure if the manga would be a very reliable source because they replaced Bongo-bongo with Dark link as the boss of the shadow temple in OoT
I do however agree that it is quite possible that the ancient tribe could have sealed away the real person that is Fierce Deity. And I am not saying that he isn't evil but I think people are infering too much upon the words that Majora had said and took most of it all literally.
But the twist of the evil powers reserecting a Link from the past would make for a great story in a different game

When the kid wearing Majora's Mask gives you the Fierce Diety Mask, it tells you that you are gonna play a game with him, and that you are gonna be the bad guy.
the manga is 100% non-canon, I just referenced it to exemplify a thing or two

But that is still only inferred by majora
But don't take what I am saying to be that Fierce Deity isn't evil
Yet there is the possibility that he isn't that is the point I was trying to make
