Has anyone beaten this game with only 3 hearts? I've started and I'm on the temple of courage, it's pretty easy so far with the help of the boomerang, but I could imagine it getting harder at the ice temple and further.

I have not, but i think I will try. It's really easy, compared to other games. I think this will be the easies 3heart challenege for all the Zelda games.

I have only ever tried that with OoT
I have mastered that game
but I guess it is the most popular game to try to master
I think I could do the 3 heart challenge with PH, it was pretty easy

I've never done any three-heart challenges before, but I think PH may be worth the shot.

I agree, actually. I think a 3-heart challenge would be more fun than difficult for PH.

I almost beat OoT with it, and just recently, I beat TP on a 3-heart. I think I'll go back to OoT. I got all the way up to Ganon, but just couldn't kill him. His attacks do kind of do all your health damage if you're also going low-upgrades. Plus I counted bottles as upgrades, and you only actially need one to beat the game, so I could basically get hit twice before game over. Not to mention that I had to kill Ganondorf before I did this, and he as well does lots of damage.
I think once I beat PH normally I'll do a 3-heart. I haven't had much handheld time recently, but school just started this week, so maybe I'll get in some time in my off periods.

This sounds like a nice challenge. I've considered it with the other games, but never went for it.

The only part I'm worried about surviving on three hearts is Dongorongo. He's probably the hardest.

This was also easier to skip the hearts because you got all the hearts from chests or from shops/mini-games.

In my opinion, Phantom Hourglass was the easiest Zelda game...the only time I ever died was when I was in the ship, so I think I'll have no problems with a PH 3 Heart Challenge.

The only time I ever died was at the final part of the game, where I was chasing the ghost ship i didn't know what to do at frist and died:(

I've done it!

I just completed Phantom Hourglass with three hearts. I also bypassed everything I could. No shield, no potions, no upgrades, etc. Same with ship stamina, I kept the original boat through the whole game. I only got the spirit gems that I absolutely had to, and only got the treasures that were given to me by NPCs.

It's a bit easier than I thought. It was almost as easy as playing through the game the first time around, but you just have to pay careful attention to things. Make sure not to fall, watch out for keese, etc. I died a total of 3 times, once by Bellum (final version), once by an octorok, and once by keese. It's amazing how much you take the shield for granted. Two out of the three times I died were in the temple of courage. The one part where you have to ride the moving platforms while keese are in the air was a pain at first, but I ended up getting it the second time around.

Octoroks, for some reason, were the hardest enemy I faced in this game. The only part where they posed a threat was in the Temple of Courage, in the room where there are 6 or 7 of them. I eventually just killed them all with the bow.

The same goes for my ship. I kept the basic ship all the way through the game. Basically, I only got things that I HAD to get to continue in the game. The final battle of Bellum was only hard because he can kill you in 2 or 3 hits. This was my third time through the game, and it was much quicker than the first two times. I didn't have to stop and do any side quests, I didn't worry about getting specific items, so I actually completed it in a day and a half.

I'll probably try it out. Phantom Hourglass was so easy. It shouldn't be too hard. I've done it on one other Zelda game before.

Alder doesn't lie. I watched him beat the end, mister show-off since I didn't beat it normally yet... Probably because unlike him, I go explore and don't follow the main storyline. I enjoy fishing, so chasing fish is quite time-consuming.

Eventually, I am going to do the 3 heart challenge. But I'm going through the Zelda series again. So it may take a while to get to that point.

What?! I do explore. I just don't waste time :). If I didn't explore then how come I ended up with like 20 more ship parts than you and 20k rupees worth of treasure and rupees? Plus I've noticed that many of the things in PH have been done in previous Zelda games. It still has the same feel to it. Get the three spirits (like the gems in OoT and pendants in LttP..), then a breaking point in the storyline, then collect three metals (like the crystals in LttP and medallions in OoT), for a big new item that is needed to complete the game.

To be honest though I think I just played it a lot more than you did, lol. You stop playing after an hour or so, but I'll keep going for.. well.. too long.

I like the idea, but I never tried it yet. I guess i'll try it in Phantom Hourglass soon seeing I haven't had any trouble yet.

If you've never done a three heart challenge ever then phantom hourglass would be a good start, due to its lack of difficulty, personally I think its the easiest major title Zelda game.

I started to, but I got a game over and quit. I got up to last dungeon. And I only died because my ship's stamina was only 4 and I was being wreckless. From what I've played, 3 Heart Challenge = not much of a challenge.

I've never tried or even thought to have tried that. But if I did try, I wouldn't be able to. I'm too clumsy at times and when fighting the bosses, the harder they are, the more hearts I need. Plus, once I beat the boss, I go straight for the heart piece, so it would be tricky for me not to go for it. I might try it sometime, but I prob. won't do too well.

iam yet to beat PH normally... Then I will think about the 3 heart challenge.

I have done OOT MM and TWW with 3 hearts.

And most of TP with 3.

I've beat it with three hearts. The only trouble with it was Bellum and Eox. I died with Eox a few times.

The game was not good enough for making such an effort!!
