New Forums Launched

After a few months without our own forum, we have now launched a brand new one, The Dark World. First and foremost I'd like to thank Killswitch from Zelda Legacy for allowing us to share our previous forum, the Chamber of Sages for several months.

This new forum will be quite different than our previous forum and most Zelda forums in general. The rules and such explain this all but they are quite lengthy. Rather than cluttering this area, they will be posted under the announcements on the forums.

The launch of the forums also brings the return of an old Webmaster here at the site, Cartoons. He helped setup the newest incarnation of the forum, in addition to bringing back the image gallery a few months back and cleaning out several pages of the site.

Phantom Hourglass content is still being worked on greatly and expect another portion of the walkthrough and a few side pages up within the next few days.

1. I understand that you want a more fanbased Forum but having ones that aren't Zelda based such as Entertainment or Graphics won't effect it. What is the point of not putting them in when you put an Advertising Forum in?

2. I think the old Staff from the previous Forum should return to their positions. I know this may be brand new and you want a fresh start but they seem to have earned it previously and we trust all of them.

Despite that i am Bursting with tears of joy due to the ZD Forums coming back. This place is no doubt the best Zelda Forum i have ever been to.

It looks a lot better than the old one. But I have one suggestion: you should maybe make the name The Golden Land, considering that the theme is gold and all.

Im sure advertising is meant for ZELDA sites only, maybe even other gaming sites. Plus this forum is new, Mases didnt want so many threads that would be a waste of space at this point in time.

Avenged sorta said what I wanted a bit, but theres a bit more to it.

As for your questions.

1) Those sections will absolutely not be included at this time as I have no interest in allowing members to discuss this. Sure members will like it and all, but that really isn't what this forum is about. Strange hearing that, but that is exactly what it is. There are plenty of Zelda forums that are open to basically anything, but not here. This is a place to discuss Zelda Dungeon, the Zelda Community, and General Zelda, with few room to stretch away from Zelda in the general gaming and advertisement sections.

2) Old staff will definately not have their positions back. I'm not trying to bring back what was before and I want no relation to the previous forum. As much as some members want the 'old' forums back, it won't happen here.

Not trying to sound harsh, but I have a certain invision that I want for these forums and there are a lot of things I especially do not want in these forums that are in a lot of other zelda forums and the old zelda dungoen based forums. While I'm sure they aren't all that clear at the moment, this picture will become less blurry as the forums start to age.

Don't worry about Sounding Harsh i kind of understand what state you want the Forums in at the moment but as much as i do Forums like these normally end up inactive, not that i know of one but just a Zelda Based Forum is like a Baby standing behind a crowed of Giants. I suppose i could sound slightly harsh with my words aswell, don't take this as if i am telling you what to do though.

That was rather hard to Understand but... Firstly you can't have an opinion on this, i think you mean the term "Point of View". Secondly Mases said he will Absolutely not include these discussions and he had no interest in allowing members to discuss this... I don't think he has Future Plans yet and i don't think it will occour any time soon either.

These forums aren't meant to be popularity contests. I didn't make them to listen to the masses. I know with a site as large as Zelda Dungeon, I could easily get a very large member base for my forums, but that is not my interest. I do not care for large numbers anymore.

I don't need them to be super active. I'm certain with the amount of visitors the site has been getting, there will always be new members joining every so often. Some will come and go, but there will always be a decent number of visitors at all times. The main purpose for the site is to let people comment about new features at the site and to talk about Zelda.

I think what you want out of these forums is just not what we are offering. Sorry to say, but like Cartoons said, I am a communist dictator in this fashion :). As I want things exactly in a certain fashion.

That being said, my view of the forums will evolve over time and who knows what it will be like come a few months.

hey i'm already happy that ZD is back and that Toons is also back.
i don 't care much if i never get my mod position back but on the other hand i feel a bit dissapointed.
anyway its not my forum, but it was fun to work for ZD while it lasted.
mases has one good point and thats the fact that the old zd forum had many members that were not zelda fans.
there where a few real zelda fans.

i can also understand chidori, in the old days he was called death202, and he was one of the few members that was really active and a zelda fan. he didn't wasted his time much in the arcade and RPG section. i know this because i was the one who promoted him in the hylian hero group.

so my opinion about this is:
it would not harm if there was a entertainmant or general forum section or a chatbox.
but for the RPG, arcade and mature discussion section, i'm also totally against that.
especially mature discussion, it gave me a lot of headace.

but chance of subject:
Mases is a dictator and he admits it? mases you certainly have changed. you wasn 't like this in the old days.
don 't care much about it really, its just that this new personality of yours reminds me of someome.

I would also have to partially agree with the Mature Discussion being omitted, because it was rather irritating because of all the fighting that went on there, especially over peoples conflicting views on things like religion.

Who cares how the forum look like or what type of content is in here. This site is made for Zelda fans, no gaming overall. If you want a more general site, go to ZL, if not, you can just wait and see if Mases changes his minds. I doubt that, because it seems very unlikely, but hey, nothing is impossible. As for the mature discussion, I think it should be out as well. It's cause some idiots think they're all know it alls, but at the end, they just say something really stupid and/or pointless that makes a fight for absolutely nothing. Plus, people act really immature, and they don't notice what that section is really about.

It is my opinion, point of view is the same difference. Did you even understand it? All those topics I mentioned are about ZELDA. Zelda theories, zelda manga, etc etc etc.

Ya, it's quite obvious these forums aren't going to be for everybody. There is a lot to talk about with Zelda that extends far beyond just the simple.. "Do you like Majora's Mask" kinda thread. Even now, if you take a look around, our most active threads are about what is unknown in the Zelda world. Stuff like the Ura Zelda thread or the Beam Blade Attack. This is just the beginning as I will always be pushing for more open ended threads and ideas. Much like the few new threads I started about disecting the entire Twilight Princess hype or the one about the Demo video from the Gamecube.

I have a lot of new ideas coming and will release them as the forums grow and new discussions are desired. Plus, theres always new members jumping in and out of our message board, so there are always fresh opinions here and there.

Nonetheless, this particular thread is no longer of importance as it is dated. I will leave it open for just a few days if there are any final responses to this.

Didn't matter if Toons was here or not at the time. Several Zelda site and forums were being attacked. Just the fact that we had phpBB was a good enough reason for someone to hack us. We were going to setup vBulletin, but Mases went with myBB instead which I tink was a good idea...these are pretty good boards.

Yah, phpBB was very unstable. However, once Toons left I did really stop caring about the forums since they were fading fast and wanted to move onto better things. Didn't really keep it updated, secured, or keep backups on my computer anymore. When it got hacked, it could have been recovered but chose not to. Nonetheless, I think looking back at it now, it was a good thing since it gave us a chance to start fresh.

These MyBB forums look very nice in my opinion. Sorta a mixture between a vBulletin and a phpBB kinda look. Thus far, I have no complaints.

Once again, people don't realize here that there are many things that it could have been. PHPBB alone might not have been the cause. The SQL manager was outdated, so was the gallery. And with the gallery connected to the forums, if they got the information through there, then there goes the forums. Everyone just assumes PHPBB was the only cause was the forums being hacked, which could have been the case, but also may not have.
