While we have seen fake Zelda movies and fan zelda movies. What if there was an official Live Action Zelda movie released? What if it was a major hollywood production and feature big name actors and actressess? Who do you guys think would be the best/funniest/worst people to play the roles of the Zelda cast.

Link - Orlando Bloom (Seems to the consensus)
Zelda - Cameron Diaz
Ganon - Dwayne Johnson "The Rock" (That would be hilarious.)
King of Hyrule - Dennis Hopper or Sean Connery

I think Link would have to be some actor that all the girls adore. Princess Zelda would have to be some super hot looking women. Ganon, would have to be a bad-*** who we are suppose to hate, but really love.

What do you guys think. Maybe some of the lesser roles as well.

Link - Leonardo DiCaprio (or maybe Brenden Frasier?)
Ganon -CGI
Ganondorf - Bruce Willis
Zelda - Cameron Diaz would be good, maybe Angelina Jolie, but even better..Liv Tyler

Link is usually portrayed as a boy, or young adult, and seldom older than 17 or 18.

Orlando Bloom and Leo DiCaprio both have that boy-ish charm that might make them a convincing adult-link. But they're still a little old for the role. Brandon Frasier even more so.

They might pull it off with special effects, or fancy camera angles, like they did with the Hobbits, but I doubt a Zelda movie is going to have that kind of budget.

I'd pick a younger, or at least younger-looking actor. I'm afraid I don't know very many off the top of my head. But then that's why I'm not a casting agent.

well I dont think Leonardo Dicaprio as Link and liv tyler as zelda would be considered funny. Bruce Willis as Ganon would be kinda humerous.

I would say that if they did make a zelda movie, I honestly think The Rock would make a good Ganondorf. As far as the others go, I don't think I'd use Cameron Diaz, though I can't think of anyone else who I would use off the top of my head that anyone's ever heard of. A few people I know who are good actors would make a good Zelda. They've never been in any movies, though, just plays at crappy playhouses that are probably about to go bankrupt and be demolished and repaved to make a new doughnut shop. Seriously, here in Colorado, Doughnuts are apparently amazingly popular.
More to the point, I think I would probably give the part of Link to somebody who wasn't every teenage girl's crush when Titanic came out, or some guy who most people only like because he's the elf. Link's not really an elf kind of character. He's kind of an elf, but not quite. Like a half elf. So somebody who's a little bulkier than Orlando Bloom, and Leonardo DiCaprio can't act in the movies I've seen him in. I've not seen all of them, but still.

Leonardo DiCaprio is actually inn some very good movies...The Departed, Gangs of New York, Blood Diamond, and Romeo and Juliet was even ok. But yeah **** Titanic.

If there would be a LoZ movie, I'd prefer it be animated to make it look like Twilight Princess, but If I was going to pick actors/voice actors, this is what it would be:

Link: Zac Efron
Zelda: Tara Strong, maybe..?
Ganondorf: Dwayne Johnson
Vaati: Jesse McCartney
Midna: Cameron Diaz

Just my opinoin. ^^

Yeah I guess only Bruce Willis as Ganon would be funny.

Bleach his hair blond, toss a green tunic and cap on this dude, and he's totally Link.

I'm sorry, man, I just don't see it.

I mean I'm sure he's good, but he's a little on the old side for Link. Maybe a villain, or something in a supporting role, certainly.

On the plus side, he was an extra in The Phantom Menace, so... six degrees and all.

Oh mah goodness. There was an article in one my old EGM magazines about something related to this. I think the perfect actor to play Ganondorf would have to be Ed O'Neill, hands down. Just look at the similarities: The hair style, the smile, and his overall facial expressions.

Ed O'Neill --> http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/1728436.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF1939057D9939C83F1064B0E76C464D6A8F4 5A5397277B4DC33E

Now tell me they don't look like twins.

Link - Andy ****
Zelda - Naomi Watts
Ganondorf - Jack Black
King of Hyrule - Christopher Lee

I'm serious.

I can't see Jack Black for Ganondorf. He would need a deeper voice, and he doesn't exactly look like him. I can see Naomi Watts as Zelda though.

@ Mases - Damn OoT for making his hair blondae, come on man, thought you were old school ;)

@ RyanNope - You fail...horribly, lol.

But other than the actors I already mentioned...no one really, it isnt possible (kinda the same with the Dragonball movie in production, but whatcha gonna do). If anything, CG animation for a Zelda movie.

Honestly, I just don't think a live-action Zelda flick would ever work. At any rate, I'm certain that none of the actors mentioned here would sign on to the project. I mean, for one, I just don't think there's a wide enough audience for such a movie. I mean I know Zelda has legions of fans, but outside of a portion of those fans, I really don't think there's a huge market for this. In the end, I just don't think it's ever going to be a good idea because all it's going to do is disappoint a whole bunch of people when it's not made how they think it should have been made. The whole Zelda canon is too vast, too complex. There are too many different storylines, too many different incarnations of the main characters. Would they do a flick along the lines of OoT/TP or one along the lines of WW/PH? Or would they go for classic all the way? It could never work like LOTR worked, because those people were working from one source: the trilogy. Granted, that was a vast undertaking, but it worked because the source material was static. The Zelda universe is constantly changing and being reinvented. With that said, if I'm living in a fantasy world where such a movie would actually get made, the only possible choice to play Zelda is Scarlett Johansson. She is so smoking hot that the rest of the cast could be a bunch of retarded leprechauns and I'd still watch that movie.

I don't think Zelda would make a great movie just because it's a game...

Take OoT for example. What's the main plot? A kid get to know that he must leave the forest he grew up in, he meets a princess, then the princess gets kidnapped. He travels forth in time. Then he sees a world that've been destroyed in the clutches of the evil Ganondorf. He gets heck of a lot things, And then conforts Ganondorf, and kill the evil master.

Great, that's about an half hour movie... but what's the rest?
The Temples.

And seriously, the temples is going to be the most boring movie ever...

Peregrine
02-26-2008, 02:33 PM
Agreed. The great thing about dungeons and temples is that it's you, controlling the protagonist through them, exploring the corridors, prodding every nook and cranny. That sort of thing is perfect for a game, but doesn't translate well into a narrative, or a movie plot.

linkman8
02-26-2008, 04:09 PM
Well the thing is, they'd probably end up cutting out a lot of the dungeon-traversing like they do in the manga. They do a nice job in the manga of keeping the main element of the dungeons, while cutting out most of the more boring stuff.

I agree with Linkman, but huh Im pretty sure the movie will be more set on Links actual quest. Plus I doubt they will base a movie of one of the games, they would create a whole new adventure from scratch.

Mr. Guffey

Link- Jim Brewer
Ganon- Al Pacino
King- Bill Murray
Zelda- Kathy Bates
Midna- Dakota Fanning/Charlize Theron
Zant- Arnold Vosloo
Tingle- Martin Short

along similar comedic lines of thought...

Guru Guru (windmill guy) - Jim Carrey
young Link - Haley Joel Osment
and old Link of course Jim Breuer, lol
young Zelda - Emma Watson or something
Zelda - the chick who plays Donna in That 70s Show
King of Hyrule - Sean Connery
Ganondorf - Sean Connery in greenface
The Great Deku Tree - some fat guy
Talon - Will Ferrel with facial hair and a fat suit-overalls
Ingo - Waluigi
Sheik - pick a female at random from San Francisco's Castro district
Mido - that CG evil boy that 'hurts toys' from Toy Story
King Zora - that one really fat black guy who plays blues guitar.. in blueface
Rauru - the guy that plays John Locke on Lost. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/3b/Lockelost.PNG/250px-Lockelost.PNG
Darunia - someone meaty and tan from the WWF
Impa - 7 of 9 from Star Trek

i don't know. a zelda movie would be like watching someone playing a zelda game. It might even ruin the perfect series and just corrupt everything made. The movie would have to be all dramatic, scary and of course action. Of course the movie would need to be based on Oot or Tp. Any other game turned into a movie would be terrible. Could you picture ezlo or like king of red lions in real life. Also all of the actors/actresses you guys mentioned woul NEVER do this movie. the game series is by nintendo which is from japan so it would maybe have japanese actors.

I agree with bunnies. "They" should never make a Zelda movie. Remember the Super Mario Bros Movie? For the most part it was a terrible movie...Zelda already has disgraceful things (CD-i games and the TV show) and we don't need more.

Did you just diss the cartoons? You need to be dragged out of your house and shot ;)

I wouldnt compare such things to the CD-i games...

Also, why does a zelda movie have to be shot in Japan? The Dragonball series is also from japan, but its movie is being produced in Mexico....with both American and Japanese actors.

The Zelda Cartoons are loved by some and hated by others. That is a full subject worth of its own thread. I personally thought that they were 'okay', but I won't get into detail. Somebody should make a thread about them.

How about Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) as Link.
I got the idea since if it was going to be a comedy of some sort, I think he could work. He's the perfect rebel without a cause.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d30/jedikman/Lost-sawyer.jpg

Probably too old to play Link though, since like somebody mentioned before, it would probably be some teenager.

The cartoons were part of the growing up I had with the Zelda games, if you can't see that, then you are missing out. Who cares if they were a little cheesy, so is TWW. And I may make a thread about the cartoons later.

And yeah Mases, that guy is too old. Leonardo DeCaprio may be good as stated before. But who says he has to be young...Link doesnt die once he turns 18 lol.

I agree with everyone, except the Bruce Willis part for Ganondorf.

I think he's a bit too small to play the role of Ganondorf, maybe that Johnson(The Rock) guy.

A Zelda movie could theoretically work, if done right. And by done right, I mean animated. Not CG, but traditional animation. If they could get Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) to create the movie, it would be perfect.

But, if we HAD to do live action, sorry to say, but I really don't like most of the serious suggestions here.

For example, Orlando Bloom? He has the acting range of a spoon. Which fit Legolas because he has the personality of a spoon, but Link? He's too old as well.

For both Link and Zelda, its best to go with relative unknowns.

For Ganon, I liked the idea of Dwayne Johnson. He's got personality, he's got build, and he could pull of the charisma that a good villain needs.

For the smaller roles, fill those with whatever character actors you want, I don't really care. Its just the main three I'd be worried about.

Setzer

Personally, I'd much rather them use a cast of relative unknowns. I mean, if you really think about it, a Zelda movie would (perhaps should) be directed primarily, if not entirely, towards fans of the series. Getting a bunch of high-class actors and actresses to portray Zelda characters would be horrible. Anyway, the only people I can think of that should be the Zelda characters are Markéta Irglová (from Once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_%28film%29)) as Zelda and Glen Hansard (also from Once) as, say, Link's father/uncle.

"Can you smelll what the Ganon is coocking!?" :D

Dwayne would be cool, but I think he's little too young for Ganon's role...

Persionally I think too that Zelda-movie actors have to be not-so-well-known, because it would sound terrible if Nicole Kidman would say something about Triforce :p
