View Full Version : More Difficult: OoT or MM?

Which one do you think is harder, MM or OoT?
I find MM harder because you need to find all these masks and only have 3 days to do things. The songs are hard to find and there are lots of tricks that you don't see coming.

MM, definitely. Unlike OOT, it's entirely possible in MM to completely lose all progress in a dungeon due to events in the game. If the moon falls while you're in a dungeon, too bad, you've got to do it over again. (Minus the items you get there, of course.)

Yeah I'd completely agree with this. Also, with the time limit it kinda made you feel panicky if you're running low on time and you haven't completed a dungeon yet. I remember only having a few hours left when I was going in to fight the Gyorg boss, and I was really nervous.
Deffinately MM. I love the game, but I hate the dungeons (if that makes any sense) because of the difficulty. I don't like 'OMG hard'/'OMG challenging' games, so it's kind of a turn-off for me. If the game were even slightly easier, I'd love it that much more.

MM is way harder then OOT because it is hard with a three day limit to do things.OOT is way easier because you dont have a time limit. But MM mask is fun too even with the darn time limit.

all way around i say mm. you have to do a lot of things in just two days and if you don't get it done you have to go back in time and pretty much do it all over again!
While it took me a couple of years to beat MM(though there were periods of a few months in which I wouldn't play the game), after knowing what to do, it's not so bad, I have to admit (at least so far).

This is a tough question actually. Since if you look at just pure difficulty of a game... I think Majora's Mask is clearly harder. However... for gamers like me that got into Ocarina of Time when it first came out, everything was brand new. The game controls and 3d environment added an extra difficulty that no Zelda titled provided before. Part of what made Ocarina of Time difficult the first time through was its unknown factor. (That's why even I had some trouble in the Great Deku Tree the first time playing it). Even the simplest puzzles were difficult for me.
So, in a way, Ocarina of Time had prepared us for Majora's Mask. Thus, I think Ocarina of Time was actually harder the first time I played it than Majora's Mask was. But overall, Majora's Mask is a much tougher game.

I thought Majora's Mask was pretty hard, but then, I never beat Ocarina of Time. Still working on it....
For me, Ocarina was easier once you knew what to do, but it was harder to FIGURE OUT what to do. Whereas Majora's Mask was the opposite. You knew exactly what to do, you just couldn't do it in time....
The only reason I beat Majora's Mask was because I catch on to dungeons easily. Once I find the "trick" I can beat a dungeon in downwards of a half an hour, which is only thirty hours of Termina time, hence the night of the second day wouldn't even pass for quite a while..
Either way, I loved Majora's Mask.

hard question. normmaly i judge things like the if i think back when i played it for my first time.
for me, Basicly MM is harder, but not with dungeons. for me the dungeons were easy, the hard part about it is, when you want to progress further in the game itself. you always had to do something before you could even enter the dungeon. and then the masks, it wasn 't a easy job finding it. but the 3 day time limit, doesn 't affect me at all with pressure. and not to mention you have the song of inverted time.
with OOT, it was easy to progress further after you beat a dungeon.
but some dungeons were quite harder then MM dungeons.
but... i'm getting a deja vu here, i think we deeply discussed the diffuculty between MM and OOT before in a other topic if i remember correctly.
MM Definitely. I still to this day have not completed that game, simply because it's too hard, or it's too hard and I don't feel like completing it. 3 Days doesn't help either.

MM was way harder than OoT. I didn't know what to do, where to go, or who to talk to. So I stopped attempting to beat it, picked it up a year later, and then figured it out.

I say MM was harder due to the mask collecting. I haven't beat it though i am at the Stone Tower.

Well do you want to know a song to slow down time or a song that can speed up time?
Here they are:
Slow is just "The Song of Time" played backwards
And
Fast is just "The Song of Time"; each note played twice, hoped that helped!:D

MM was the first Zelda I actually got to play for more than a few days. OoT seemed impossible when I was 9 but MM when I was 11 seemed even worse. Then I found OoT again when I was 12, and it was a breeze after MM. I never got to low health in OoT, though i was stuck in the Water Temple for a while...
In MM, I spent two months just trying to find the first dungeon because I couldn't find the little opening leading to the woods...and then some more as I couldn't shoot the arrow to light the brazier in the first dungeon (so I tried doing other stuff. Stuck for another two weeks until I realized my aim was way too horrible....).

Ther just, well different,
Ocarina of time is more straight forword but has twice as many dungeons,
But Majora's mask was a headache, but you only need six mask to actually beat the game.

MM is harder, wich is better imo...
I think i'll start playing it again tomorrow, now on the n64(i only had the GC version that came in Collector's edition)

both are pretty hard. MM is hard because of the three day time limit and OoT is hard because it is hard and long.

MM totally OOT is a hard game but no compaired to MM. t5he 3 day thing is hard to get use to and there are so many more things you have to do to move up in the game unlike OOT

The 3 day cycle is not that hard to get accostumed... It's pretty simple and gives the game a more realistic approach

Now, I'm a big Ocarina of Time fan and some people may find it odd for somebody who's a fan of a game to think that the game they love was easier than the one they don't really like. Because most people just think that the cool gamers think that the harder ones are better. But truthfully, I do think that Majora's Mask was harder. Especially if you were having trouble with collecting those eggs from the Gerudo Hideout and ran out of time and had to play The Song of Time and lose your progress.

The three day time limit never bothered me since I could slow down time.
What made the game hard was the last two dungeons.

Ocarina of Time is the Hardest game I have ever played, it wins this fight hands down. Mases, I don't know why you say MM is easier, it has less dungeons and those dungeons are really easy.
MM was really easy because it had only 4 official temples while Oot had 6 official temples. Also, I found that the addition of Masks made the game easier.
Oot was harder because it had more temples that were harder and scarier (IMO). It had a longer and more complex plot.
So that is basically my answer.

Gyorg was challenging, but he was only one boss. Plus he was only about as hard for me on my first playthrough as Morpha or Bongo Bongo was.

Another thing that I have to say about MM...
If you think about it in OoT you need songs, items and medallions*6 of them and 3 stones*
But in MM you need songs, items and 28 masks!!*28 i think* With the acception of Great Bay and the eggs for the turtle making it harder. Don't forget that you only get 3 days and if you go back in time in the game you lose all your things for your items.

I do not share those feelings about Ocarina of Time, but for A Link to the Past - it never seems to get old for me. The newer released games which provide assistance from sidekicks are less entertaining for myself because of how easy they are, this includes Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was much more challenging compared to even A Link to the Past though for me, so that isn't to say all games with sidekicks reduce difficulty.

Definitely MM, I was always hard pressed for time. It's also ironic that there's only four (five actually) dungeons and they take so much longer than the ones in OoT, because they're harder. And the tasks you were given weren't just hard, they were annoying too.

Nothing was hard about OoT, not even the Water Temple. As long as you don't miss the key in the center of the temple under the block then its a breeze, otherwise I can understand the diffeculty there.
Majoras Mask wasn't hard either, just a big pain in the @ss. Stone Tower was a bit complicated on the first run, as it was definetly confusing, but other than that the game was a breeze. The time limit really pissed me off because it slowed down the progression of the game, but did allow for more side quest puzzle diffeculty.
I guess if I had to choose one, MM was a bit tougher than OoT was, but OoT I think was more memorable.

hmm this won't take long to figure out, ummm... MM definetly. In MM you have to change masks constantly just to beat the temples, it does get very annoying during Woodfall temple (http://zeldawiki.org/woodfall_temple)(which I just beat) and probably all the other temples too.One of the most annoying things is the moon, and majora(I'm trying to talk about the 3 day limit if you don't understand me) at first I thought this game would be easy as pie, then after awhile I kept on dieing because of the annoying moon, then I found out about the reverse song of time.OoT well you had no limit to play and you could wonder freely all over hyrule without having to worry about the moon.I liked the idea's of the mask, I really like them, escpecially the Goron mask.I just loved to roll around. Also in OoT there were some challenging temples *cough*water temple*cough*.There were only 4 temples making MM a bit easier, though it all comes down to MM the hardest of them all.

Majoras Mask, no doubt. You only have three days to beat the game, the dungeons are more difficult. Theres a lot of masks to find. and a huge amount of heart peices. I havent beat it yet, but right now its harder than Ocarina of Time.

I keep hearing People say Ocarina Of time is harder and longer. But in my opinion Majora's mask is harder and longer.
The reason are beacause the side quest and getting ready for temples are hard. The temples were pretty easy but the outside is Hard.
Does anyone agree. This has just been on my mind for a while so I just wanna know.O.o

I'm playing MM at the moment. I have currently just beat the first temple. It has already been alot harder than OoT ever was, and I got to the adult water temple in that. That's 5 temples further, and ALOT easier. Actually getting to the temples is a challenge in it's self. I was also surprised and shocked to see that the time still passes in the temple, so you better hope you uncovered that owl statue in clock town. OoT never challenged me, MM is already possibly the hardest Zelda I have played.

Still my favorite zelda! it's so in-depth, 100% is like becoming the deity of termina... fierce deity that is. all those side quests make my head spin especially the fact that some of these side quests have alternate rewards or multiple ways to complete. Like Cremia's milk delivery side quest where it is possible to receive a big hug from Cremia <3
and that guy stuck in the toilet that only comes out at midnight hahaaha ya anyway u can choose to give him a land deed title or a letter that you are supposed to mail, like anju's love letter because you just don't care and want that heartpiece!!!
leading up to the dungeons there is always a little work to do and most of the time it takes a few days to get this done.
Also the fact that counterparts from OoT live in this parallel world give us a deeper look into the thoughts and dreams of OoT's cast of characters. Giving OoT a new sense of replay value... for instance seeing sakon the thief prance around hyrule market suddenly unnerves me... and the happy mask sales man becomes somewhat of an enigma.
all in all i thought the game was a very solid addition to the zelda series and i hope we see more games like this one in the future.

Thought I finished my post... didn't you? Well, not yet. :P
OCARINA OF TIME:
Below are my thoughts on the difficulty of various things in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
DUNGEONS
The dungeons in Ocarina of Time were really fun and enjoyable. There was a good amount of dungeons that I think made the game very good. The certain dungeon I hated the most was the Water Temple, it was really frustrating running around the dungeon searching for keys, mini bosses, secrets, and new rooms. I think everybody hated finding all the keys. Eventually, I got tired of finding keys, so I everytime I went into a room that led more than one way, I'd look EVERYWHERE before going through a locked door again, just in case I need a key. The Water Temple frustrating as it was, had a boss that was far too easy compared to the others. The other dungeons and temples were pretty cool, and moderatly difficult enough for my taste.
SIDEQUESTS
There were just a few side quests in the game, and one I still haven't been bothered enough to complete, which was the Poe Quest. Anyway, both of the other sidequests, the mask trading one, and the Biggoron Sword one were both fun and difficult, but the Biggoron Sword one was impossible to recieve unless you had Epona, which was a little disappointing. It was interesting how there was a certain special sidequest for both the past and future Link to do in his spare time. Even though they were optional, they were really fun, and I always do the Epona Sidequest and Biggoron's Sword quest whenever I can. (Unless I'm doing a special run). It was also quite interesting to know you could get the Biggoron's Sword before even entering the Forest Temple too. (Thanks Kazumi ;))
STORY
When I say "Story", I pretty much mean everything that required you to continue in the game, but wasn't a dungeon. Anyway, the game was pretty good for difficulty, but using a joystick that was pretty much ruined was too hard to beat the game like that. Other things like saving the Carpenters to continue in the game was really fun too, and it took me a while to find the last one. (Was he hiding from me or something? :P) Though this game was too hard with a ruined joystick, everything in this was moderately difficult, and fun too, I liked how it wasn't dungeon over dungeon till the final boss, and how it had an interesting story that led to things that were sometimes even hard.
MAJORA'S MASK:
This is what I think of Majora's Mask in difficulty.
DUNGEONS
Even though there were only 4 dungeons in this game, I really enjoyed doing all of the fun puzzles, and one of my friends eventually asked me to do them for him because he was having loads of trouble. He really only likes riding Epona. The dungeons were really unique too, and I loved the whole Stone Tower, it was one of my favorite dungeons in the entire series, and it was in Ikana, my favorite area in Majora's Mask, too. The dungeons had cool bosses that were pretty darn fun, and extra goodies to make you use your head and solve strange puzzles. It was cool how you had to use a brazier to light your arrow in the Snowhead Temple, which was quite creative and smart, yet also tricky. I really liked the temples and their difficulty in Majora's Mask
SIDEQUESTS
Wow! I can't say anything but: Majora's Mask had a LOT of sidequests throughout the entire game. Each was unique in it's own way, and some were challenging but tricky. My favorite sidequest was the "They" one, where you rode around the ranch in darkness firing arrows whilst riding upon Epona. It was extremely fun, and funny if you lost, because you saw a very hilarious cutscene, in which the ranch girl is taken by the aliens. There was also many other challenging and fun sidequests that made the game unqiue and interesting and kept the story alive. Another one of my favorites was Reuniting Kafei and Anju, which I found romantic and fantastic. It was so sad in the end how they told you they were going to wait to die together.
STORY
Like Ocarina of Time, I mean this by the overall story quests like things before a temple. Like sneaking past the Deku guards and saving Ikana. Collecting the Mirror Shield was amazingly fun but also quite creepy how you had to go around giving items to the ReDead. Some parts were difficult on the first attempt. It was exciting and amusing to help everybody, but also know that it will only last until you use the Song of Time, which was annoying, because you lost your side quest items, plus arrows, bombs, and other things. So, every time I used the Song of Time, I'd then use the Inverted one to Slow down time, then grab a secret 100 rupee in Clock Town, then buy my things that I lost back. Quite annoying, but I luckily found a way around it. Really good difficulty.
To me, they're even. I think they're both moderately difficult, and good for my taste. Thanks for reading. ^^

I would say MM too. The time limit is stressful, and its hard to figure out how to get the masks. Collecting the fairies in the dungeons was also a giant chore. MM was odd to me, it feels like the creators were high when they thought it up. It just didn't feel like the zelda games before it.
