Daily Debate: Would You Read a Novelization of Your Favorite Zelda Game?
Posted on May 14 2021 by Heather Beard
The Legend of Zelda has quite a few stories under its belt, but with remakes, the classic cartoon, and the manga adaptation, I think it still leaves room for more stories to be told. As an avid reader and collector of books, I have yet to see a novelization of The Legend of Zelda. I’ve seen children’s books and I have read nearly every volume of the Zelda manga, but what I think I would like the most is for The Legend of Zelda to get the novelization treatment.
I could see any of the Zelda stories making for a great light novel, or even fall into the Young Adult (YA) category of books. Personally I would love to see an epic like Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time brought into a novel format. I love seeing stories adapted into different formats, and I enjoy collection them too. The manga for instance takes some liberties with storytelling that the game leaves up to interpretation. Between cut scenes and side-quests, you, the player, are the one filling in the story. Don’t get me wrong; I love video games, especially Zelda games, but I would love to just curl up with one of my favorite Zelda stories on a rainy afternoon with my cat.
Another reason I wish for novelization of the Zelda games is that I would love to be able to read those stories to my infant son. It will be a few years yet until he will be able to play the games himself, but I’d love for him to experience the adventure as soon as he can. Until then, I guess I can tell him my own version of the story.
What do you think? Should the Zelda games be adapted in the form of a novel? Which game would you want to see adapted the most? Let us know in the comments below.
