Having just replayed Breath of the Wild, I have to say that the Champions’ abilities are generally much better than those of Tears of the Kingdom’s Sages. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Tulin’s Gust ability, and his skill with a bow and arrow. However, would I choose that over Revali’s Gale? I missed being able to do a turbo-charged jump to get to high places.

I know when I was in the Muctorok fight, I gave up trying to use Sidon’s ability, and resorted to Chuchu Jelly. Sidon was always on the other side of the arena, and I was wasting time trying to get near enough to use his ability. Admittedly, if you are close enough, using his power to double the attack on Zora weapons was very useful, but I’d choose the full revival of Mipha’s Grace out of the two.

I had the same issue with Riju; her lightning ability was great if she wasn’t on the other side of the area. I loved Urbosa’s Fury, and being able to release this without having to track the Sage down was so much easier. Yunobu was my second favorite Sage after Tulin, and was so useful for blasting down walls and ore deposits. But Breath of the Wild gave you unlimited Bombs, so that wasn’t really needed, whereas Daruk’s Protection was so useful in boss fights. Also, having lost a Fairy by accidentally triggering an ability in Tears of the Kingdom, I did switch most of the Sages off for a fair part of the game.

What do you think? Do you prefer the Sages over the Champions? Let us know in the comments below!
