By now, most Zelda fans who care know that Zelda U will most likely not be recieving a 2015 release date. Some fans were blown away and depressed, and some, like me, were still saddened but for the most part accepted this. Aonuma specifically explained the reason for the delay was because of new possibilities of improvement for Zelda U.

What saddens us all is the announcement on Miiverse that Zelda U will not be shown at E3; no demo, no trailer, nothing. This surprised me very much. Why would Nintendo temporarily derail Zelda U‘s hype train and abolish their header for Wii U? Zelda U footage or news was what everyone wanted from Nintendo during E3, and Nintendo knew this.

I ask you again: Why would Nintendo do this? They must have some other trick up their sleeve for the Zelda series. I don’t think Nintendo would give us absolutely no Zelda news during E3. Something strange is going on.

What is this strange thing? I believe Nintendo has something else to announce for the Zelda series. There are several possibilities as to what this could be. Without further ado, I present to you those possibilities.

Twilight Princess Gets its Own HD Remake

Is it time to return to the Twilight Realm once again, but this time in glorious HD? Nintendo might think so. Remember a while back when we mentioned that GameStop employees think the next 3D remake for the Zelda series could be Twilight Princess? I think they are partially correct. We just received a new Zelda remake for the 3DS, Majora’s Mask 3D. I believe we are due for another HD remake.

My reason for this assumption? Let me give you a list of recent Zelda remakes:

This, dear people, is the start of a pattern. I believe, for a while, the Zelda series is going to follow this pattern: handheld remake, home console remake, handheld remake, home console remake, and so on.

You know what Zelda game fans have been asking to be remade? Twilight Princess. In any post on this website that talks about Zelda remakes, I always see comments such as:

“I would love for Twilight Princess to be remade in HD! It would look so awesome in 1080p.”

If there is one thing Nintendo does, it is listen to their fans. They heard the fans pleading for Majora’s Mask 3D, and they delivered. They heard fans talking about the classic first Zelda title, and how the fans loved the open-worldedness of it, and Nintendo has promised to deliver. I seem to recall Nintendo saying future remakes may be based on fan demand, as well.

Enough about a Twilight Princess remake, it’s time to move on to the next possibility.

Nintendo Announces a Second Major Spin-Off Title

What do I mean by second major spin-off title? The Zelda series has received more spin-offs than some realize. We’ve seen the Tingle series, the three CD-i games, the Game and Watch Zelda title, among a few others. These are minor spin-offs that did not receive much attention, and did not sell very well.

I think we can all agree that Hyrule Warriors is the first major spin-off title the Zelda series has received. The Zelda community absolutely blew up when Hyrule Warriors was announced, and Nintendo carried out a heavy marketing regime to bring more sales to the game. It appears as though they were successful, as the game shipped over one million units.

Since Hyrule Warriors was so successful, Nintendo may be considering another spin-off title for the Zelda series. What could it be?

I believe one possibility is a Princess Zelda/Sheik spin-off game. As I said before, Nintendo listens to what their fans want. I see fans discussing how they would play a Zelda/Sheik spin-off game a lot more than you would think.

Maybe this game could be set in the years when Link is asleep in Ocarina of Time. The game could take you through the events of Sheik’s training, and when she is spying on Ganondorf and his soldiers.

A second spin-off title I believe Nintendo could be considering is Hyrule Warriors 2. Some would say a sequel to a spin-off is unlikely, but lets remember that Hyrule Warriors is a crossover between the Zelda series and Dynasty Warriors.

In the past, Dynasty Warriors spin-offs have received sequels. Look at Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage. It is a Dynasty Warriors spin-off, and it received a sequel: Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2. One Piece: Pirate Warriors is also a Dynasty Warriors spin-off, and it received not one, but two sequels. It is more than likely Koei Tecmo, the company that develops and releases Dynasty Warriors, has already contacted Nintendo about developing a sequel to Hyrule Warriors; a game that has brought a “freshness” to the Dynasty Warriors series according to Koei Tecmo.

I believe Nintendo could be seriously considering one of these games, maybe Hyrule Warriors 2 more than a Zelda/Sheik spin-off.

If Nintendo does not plan to announce one of these games at E3, what else could they have in store for us?

Zelda Maker

The Internet absolutely raved over Nintendo’s announcement of Mario Maker last year. The idea of creating your own Mario levels and playing th

em? Who wouldn’t want a game like that? I think the same might be true for the Zelda series.

Zelda Maker would work gloriously for 2D Zelda titles. I know some fans who would love to create their own mini Zelda game using original Legend of Zelda NES graphics and sprites, and possibly graphics from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Zelda Maker could possibly work for 3D Zelda titles as well. Maybe you could make your own Ocarina of Time dungeon, or create your own version of Hyrule using A Link Between Worlds graphics. The possibilities for Zelda Maker are endless.

Closing

There we go! Three possibilities of what Nintendo could be planning to announce at E3 2015 in place of Zelda U. What do you think of my predictions? Share your thoughts or theories in the comments below.
