Red Tektite

 ~ Kakariko Village ~

 - With all of the items we got in the last section, you should be more than ready to tackle Death Mountain, but you need one of the things out of all of them to proceed: the HYLIAN SHIELD. You can get it in the Hyrule Town Market for 80 Rupees (60 reduced with the Death Mountain guard's help), or you can get in the Graveyard for free (refer to the previous chapter).

 - When you're finally ready, go up and talk to the guard in front of the north gate in Kakariko, whip out your letter and hand it to him. You'll have to endure a lengthy rant. He'll lament about how his child greatly desires a Keaton Mask from the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Town, which queues its grand opening. It's part of a later side quest, so I'll cover that at a later time.
 - After he shuts his trap, head on through the gate.

 ~ Death Mountain Trail ~

Red Tektite
Threat

Attacks
Contact
 -  These crab-like enemies will jump in your direction if you come into view. Not much else to say about them, other than some people think they look like spiders.
 - Vertical sword slashes work wonders on these mobile enemies.

 - As you enter, you'll find several Red Tektites along the way. Simply Z target them once you get close and slash without holding the analog stick to use vertical slashes to kill them. Head on up around the corner and a third Tektite will jump off the ledge. Kill it like the others, then speak with the rock-like creature next to the giant cracked boulder if you like. He'll inform you that he's a Goron, one of many on Death Mountain, and that the cave behind him is Dodongo's Cavern, which was sealed by Ganandorf, the fiend!
 - After that pleasant encounter, round the corner and continue upward. Here, head along the RIGHT side of the flag. Avoid this rolling Goron by staying on the left side. If he hits you, he'll knock you off the mountain. Continue on through and enter the giant, bannered entrance to Goron City.

 ~ Goron City ~

 - The city is composed of many tiers which each have many doors and twisting corridors. For now, our objective is the bottom level, so you can just jump all the way down. Once there, stand on the fancy rug in front of the huge stone door and pull out your Ocarina. You'll hear the secret chime. Play Zelda's Lullaby to open the door, then head on in and speak with Darunia, the Goron leader.
 - Unfortunately, he doesn't have any interest in chatting with you and is too absorbed in his own troubles. To lift his spirits, obviously you have to play Saria's Song. I mean, that's common sense right? (What the crap man!)

 - If you've been following the walkthrough thus far, you should already have Saria's Song, if not, use the shortcut listed below, then follow the instructions in the previous section that deals with that.

 - After watching the big boss of the Gorons do a little jig and exclaim joyous phrases, talk to his old scowling self again and he's willing to talk. Turns out, he's willing to give you the Spiritual Stone of Fire...! If you can kill the beasts in Dodongo's Cavern. Jerk!
 - As a free gift (for no reason he claims), he'll give you some helpful jewelry.

New Equipment: Goron's Bracelet Goron City (Past)
 - This small armband gives you the strength to pull up bushes, including the Bomb Flowers!

 - Well that's just downright spiffy. Before we leave, there's a little something we can get here.

Heart Piece #18 Goron City (Past)
 - After opening the door to Darunia's Chambers in Goron City, use the torch in his room to light the other torches outside using a Deku Stick. This will cause the giant urn to spin for no reason.
 - At this point, go one tier up using the nearby stairs and throw the nearby Bomb Flowers into it. If you can manage to make one explode when the smiling Goron face is facing towards you, it will spit out a Piece of a Heart.

View Heart Piece Guide

 - Now we're going to make a little shortcut.
 - You can light a Deku Stick on the torches on the lowest level, head up the stairs, continually making right turns and light the two big torches up here. After that, run down the hall here to see some boulders with Bomb Flowers. Bring your lit Stick under one of the Flowers on the wall to light it, then run away before it explodes. This will clear the boulders, making a shortcut to the Lost Woods.
 -  Now, if you haven't gotten Saria's Song yet, enter the Lost Woods and refer to the last section of the walkthrough to go get it and return here. Once you've done that and played the song for Darunia, we're done here.

 - With nothing left to do in Goron City, make your way all the way to the top and exit that way.

 ~ Death Mountain Trail ~

 - From the entrance to Goron City, head to the right, rather than back down the mountain. Here, you'll find a little overhang with a lone Goron and Bomb Flower. Speak with him if you wish, though he holds no monetary value, so to speak. His companion, however, is now useful to us.
 - Pick up the Bomb Flower and toss it over the ledge. If you aim straight ahead, it will land beside the giant boulder below and blow open the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern. What? That was it? Why couldn't these lazy bums who are ten times stronger than you do that?
 - Actually, as long as you're up here, you can cheat and do a back flip at an angle over this shorter Bomb Flower fence to land on top of the roof of the Dodongo's Cavern entrance and grab a Piece of a Heart early. I'm not going to do it for the sake of the walkthrough, but if you like, the option is open =)

 - Whenever you're ready, go ahead and enter the Cavern.

 - As soon as you enter, you'll find an odd looking wall straight ahead. Use one of the Bomb Flowers nearby to blow it up, revealing the whole of Dodongo's Cavern. This place is full of lava and fire enemies, so best to equip the Hylian Shield so you don't burn your little Deku edition.
 - Straight ahead, you'll see a new statue enemy with a giant eyeball atop it.

Beamos
Threat

Attacks
Laser
 - These immobile statue enemies will slowly cast their gaze in a circle and shoot anything that moves with laser beams.
 - The only way to defeat these menacing statues is to blow them up with something explosive, like Bombs, Bombchus or Bomb Flowers, which will explode on contact. Occasionally, they'll only stun however, so you might have to do it twice.

 - You can't kill that Beamos at the moment, so either use this center platform to get to the one on the left, or you can jump down and run along the edge of the lava and climb up a ladder on the other side. Either way, once there, use the Bomb Flower to blow up the nearby funny looking wall. Inside there's a large treasure chest containing the Dungeon Map.
 - You can kill this other Beamos if you like using the nearby Bomb Flower. Also worth noting on this side is the Business Scrub on this far end who will sell Deku Shields if you burn yours. You should have the Hylian Shield equipped though.

 - With that all settled, head to the opposite (right) side, using either the rising platforms or the ladder behind the platform itself. There's another weird wall on this side, but it's just a Gossip Stone that we can't use yet.
 - Use the Bomb Flower to kill the Beamos, then grab yet another Bomb Flower and make a run for the weird wall on the other side. After blowing it open, head on through.

 - In this small passage, you'll find another new enemy, Baby Dodongos.

Baby Dodongo
Threat

Attacks
Contact
Explosion
 - These small lizards will surface and chase after you, trying to jump and nip at you if they get close. If you avoid them, they'll burrow back under only to reappear moments afterwards.
 - They're quite weak and will die with a single slash of your sword, but be warned, because they explode shortly afterwards. Perhaps you can use their blast to your advantage?

 - Go on ahead and either kill or avoid the small green baddies. They're pretty easy, but just be aware of the fact that they explode. Right before you get to the small ledge, there's a secret to the right that you can get early.

Skulltula #5 Dodongo's Cavern (Any Time)
Requires: Bombs?

 - In the skinny passage with all the jumping, exploding lizards, there is a bombable wall along one side. You can blow it up with Bombs once you have them, or if you time it right, you can lure one of the Baby Dodongos near it, then slash it with your sword. Enter the door that's revealed.
 - Inside, kill the Keese, then claim your prize. You may have to use a jump (Z + A) to reach it.

View Gold Skulltula Guide

 - If you mess up and kill all the Baby Dodongos, you can leave and come back to make them reappear. In any case, climb onto the small platform up ahead and there's a small puzzle. Stepping on the switch opens the door, but as soon you step off it seals back up. Push and pull either of the Armos statues onto it to keep the door open. Head on through.

 - This small room has two Keese. Either kill them or run past.

 - The door seals behind you and two Lizalfos appear. It looks like you're trapped until you can defeat them.

Lizalfo
Threat

Attacks
Sword Slash
 - These lizard-men use swords to swipe at you. They usually come in pairs, but only attack you one at a time and swap every other hit they take. They attack quite slowly and are very vulnerable the rest of the time. Use your shield to get close and slash them.
 - Alternatively, you can shoot them from afar with your Slingshot, or stun them with Deku Nuts. Either way, three hits with the Kokiri Sword will finish them.

 - These annoying enemies will jump back and forth repeatedly. Pursue the next one that'll attack you to make the battle faster. Oh, and avoid the lava of course. Don't they look like they're wearing metal bras...? Anyway, once they're both defeated, the next door will open.

 - There's a funny looking wall ahead, but behind is just a Business Scrub selling Deku Sticks if you're out.
 - Around the corner, you'll encounter your first Dodongo.

Dodongo
Threat

Attacks
Fiery breath
Tail swipe
 - These giant, slow moving lizards bulky and awkward to maneuver around, but they can be quite easily defeated if you know what to do. Their main attack is to get close to you and breath fire, which does heavy damage.
 - Trick them into breathing fire, then quickly circle around and swipe their tender backside. Whenever they are harmed there, they'll spin around quickly, hitting you with their tail if you're within range, then breath fire yet again, so jump out of the way.
 - By repeatedly making them turn 180 degrees, you can keep this up and harm them until they die. Depending on their size, they take differing amounts of hits to defeat. The Jump Attack (Z + A) works great on these guys because they're "stunned" for so long.

 - There are two Dodongos in this room, so defeat both of them.
 - If you're out of Deku Sticks, use the Bomb Flowers to blow open the funny looking wall near the beginning of this room, enter the door and defeat the Business Scrub so you can buy them for 15 Rupees each. It's a rip off really, but who cares?
 - Now, you'll notice a lit torch near the beginning of the room. Whip out a Deku Stick, light it, then run along towards the far end of the room, lighting the other torches in the middle along the way. Once all three torches are lit the door will open.

 - We're back in the main room, but on a slightly higher ledge. Go step on the switch up ahead to unlock a door leading to the west wing of the dungeon. Make your way over there and go through.

 - In this small room, we can either bomb the funky looking wall or proceed. If you do blow up the wall, it will reveal a door. Go through.

 - Inside, you'll meet your very first Armos. Just touch it to wake it up.

Armos
Threat

Attacks
Contact
Explosion
 - These statue enemies sit still until you disturb their slumber, after which they'll charge at you in short bursts before returning to their post. On their own, they are invulnerable to your sword.
 - There are two methods to defeating them: The first is to use explosives, such as Bombs, Bombchus or Bomb Flowers. The second is to stun them with Deku Nuts, then slash them with your sword.
 - In either case, they'll spin around chasing after you before exploding. Simply run away or use your shield until they're done for.

 - After he's been defeated, the door will unseal. Open the chest to find the Compass, then head back out.

 - Back in the room with the lines of Bomb Flowers, grab the lone Bomb Flower that's near this side room and place it in between the others to complete the garden line. This will cause them all to explode at once, which will make the stone crumble and fall into the shape of stairs. Why, how convenient...
 - Climb up all the steps, then circle around using either the left or right path and come to the very top of the slope. Here, you'll find a Skullwalltula, as well as a Gold Skulltula!

Skulltula #6 Dodongo's Cavern (Past)
 - In the room where you blow up all the Bomb Flowers at once to make the stairs lower, there's a Gold Skulltula on a web at the very top of the room. Kill it with your Slingshot, then climb the web to grab the token.

View Gold Skulltula Guide

 - Collect it if you wish, then head through the door in the top portion of the room.

 - You'll find yourself in a hexagon shaped room with more Armos and a new twist on an familiar enemy: Fire Keese.

Fire Keese
Threat

Attacks
Contact
 - If a regular Keese comes in contact with a flame, it'll become a Fire Keese, which is the same, except it can do additional damage by making you burn after it hits you.
 - Kill them like you would any other Keese, just don't equip your Deku Shield so it doesn't get burned. The Slingshot is a good choice.

 - You should have the Hylian Shield equipped anyway, so their fire shouldn't pose much of a problem. Use your sword or slingshot to defeat them, then find the side of the pillar in the center of the room with a ladder. Pull the Armos statue back and climb the ladder. Step on the switch to open the nearby door; go through it.

 - We're back in the main room, but up high! Don't fall down and beware the Fire Keese as you make your way across the skinny platform. There's a deliberate chunk taken out in the center of it for no reason, JERKS! Continue on to the other side and head through.

 - In the next room, either use the ladder or jump down into a Trap infested corridor. Navi will exclaim how you should use Z Targeting to know what's around the corner before venturing out. Good advice in these close quarters.
 - Use Z to navigate through this little area and time your sprints to avoid the Traps. Get to the opposite side of the room, where you'll find a silver block at the base of a ladder. Our goal here is to get on top of the platform to your right. There are two methods to do so:
A: Climb up the ladder, get on the skinny ledge, turn around and jump.
B: Pull out the block, put it next to the platform and climb up both.
 - Either way, once up top, open the chest for a Red Rupee (15), then use the Bomb Flower to blow up the funny looking wall at the top of the ladder. It can take several tries. Either try to hook it onto the small ledge, or time it so it will explode at the right moment. Either way, once that is done, jump over and go through.

 - This passage has a platform with a fire raging on it. In order to put out the flames so you can jump across, you'll have to shoot the gold eye switch above the next doorway. It's timed, so hurry and run across.
 - The hallway here has three Baby Dodongos. I suggest you just avoid them and head for the next door.

 - Once again, you are locked in with two Lizalfos. They're easily defeated, though, this time you have less room to work with. Remember that you're Slingshot and Deku Nuts are options as well if you find this space too confining.
 - Once their defeated, the door will unseal. If you're running low on health, you can inch your way out onto the platform out in the distance. It's actually looming over the room we battled the last pair of lizard men. Anyway, enter the door when you're ready.

 - Once again, we're in another fire pillar room. This time, however, there are two flames. The first is put out in the same manner as the last room like this we visited.
 - To put out the second flame, stand on the first platform, then turn left. Shoot the golden eye switch in the alcove to cause the fire to cease.

 - This next area is actually the same room as the one we were in earlier with all the traps going back and forth. Now that we're on the higher level, jump across to the next platform. Here, climb up the little raised portion on your right to find a large treasure chest. Although it doesn't look like it'll be anything special, it's actually this dungeon's treasure.

New Equipment: Bomb Bag Dodongo's Cavern (Past)
 - This nifty bag made from the stomach of Dodongos lets you hold up to 20 Bombs at a time!

New Item: Bombs Dodongo's Cavern (Past)
 - Whip one of these puppies out and it will explode shortly after. Use them on cracked walls or boulders to find all kinds of secrets! Keep in mind, that many enemies that can't be harmed with the sword are vulnerable to explosives that can get past their defenses.

 - Jump on down (to the high platform). You can actually jump down once more and blow up the funny looking wall, but it just contains a small room with Business Scrubs selling Deku Nuts and Deku Seeds (Slingshot bullets).
 - Rather than jumping down again, continue on through to the last area we have yet to explore.

 - It actually takes you back to the other top area of the main room. Step on the switch to cause on of the rising platforms from below begin to raise all the way to the top level. This is a very nice shortcut to this portion of the dungeon.
 - Step forward and read the tablet for a little clue of what to do next:

Giant dead Dodongo...
when it sees red,
a new way to go
will be open.

 - Follow the last bridge across the top and you'll notice there's two holes in it, right above the Dodongo skull's eyes. Hmm... Position yourself next to the edge of each and press the Bomb button twice to whip one out and drop it down. Once it explodes, the eye will turn red. Repeat this step with the other eye, and actually, you can jump down and stand directly on the skull if you like.
 - Once both eyes glow, the jaw will lower to reveal a door. Once again... How convenient... Anyway, either use the "shortcut" to get down, or jump down onto the skull, then the platform. Enter your new doorway.

 - In this new area, run straight ahead then drop down into the room. Kill the Fire Keese if you like, then climb into the hallway on the right and follow it to the next room.

 - In this larger room, there are yet again some more Fire Keese. Kill them and follow the twisting path until you get to a raised platform. Climb onto it. If you want a Gold Skulltula, jump down and blow up the nearby wall.

Skulltula #7 Dodongo's Cavern (Past)
Requires: Bombs

 - Right after you enter the giant dead Dodongo's skull and take the path on the right, there's a bombable wall at the far end of this long room with the Fire Keese flying around. Bomb the wall and go through the door.
 - Inside is a lone Armos statue guarding a Gold Skulltula.

View Gold Skulltula Guide

 - Once you're ready to proceed, climb onto the raised part of the platform between the second and third pits, then climb the other climbable block on here to get to the highest point. Walk along this wall until you get to the exit on the far side of the room.
 - Once you jump down here, you can slash the pots on the left. There's a fairy in one of them that you can put in a bottle for later (they automatically heal you if you run out of life).

 - You'll find yourself at the top of another alcove in the small square room. Push the block off the ledge and jump down. Kill the Fire Keese so they don't bug you, then push and pull the block into the hole in the center of the room. This will hold down a switch so you can enter the boss door.

 - Once in there, use a Bomb on the funny looking patch on the floor, then open the chest for some Bombs (so you're full). Fall down the hole to begin the boss battle.

Temple Boss: Infernal Dinosaur, King Dodongo Dodongo's Cavern (Past)
Navi:
 "King Dodongo
This is a huge Dodongo that eats
anything! Give it a shock, and
finish it off with you sword!"

Threat:
Attacks:
  Contact
  Roll
  Fire breath

 - King Dodongo is another easy boss that just looks big. Its large size makes for awkward attacks that are easily avoided. It only has two forms of offense, the first of which is to breathe fire at you, which can be easily avoided by simply standing close to the lava on the little curved ledge.

 - His second attack is to roll around half the arena, which he does repeatedly throughout the battle, usually either immediately after the first attack, or when there's an awkward situation where he can't hit you that well. Once again, this can be easily avoided by standing close to the lava. Also, you can simply use your shield to avoid this one.

 - With that being said, you should follow Navi's advice and try "giving him a shock." Do so by throwing a Bomb or Bomb Flower into his mouth while he's inhaling to breathe fire. It will explode in his stomach, stunning him for a moment. Use the opportunity to slash him with your sword. Just be prepared to jump to the side with the lava to avoid his roll immediately after, then circle around to the other side to face him once again.

 - Four hits will kill this beast. And if you plan ahead, you can throw the Bomb, whip out your sword while he flings himself in the air, then use A to do a Jump Attack on him as soon as he hits the ground, dealing extra damage.

Summery:
 - Rolls at you and breathes fire. The fire can't be deflected with your shield, but both are easily avoided by standing close to lava. Avoid actually touching the lava though...
 - Throw Bombs or Bomb Flowers in King Dodongo's mouth while he's inhaling to stun him, then slash with your sword. Circle around. Repeat.

 - After the old king has been defeated, be sure to grab the Heart Container that's left behind, then enter the blue portal to leave this dungeon.

 ~ Death Mountain Trail ~

 - After exiting the dungeon, you'll quickly be reunited with Darunia, who is quite pleased to see you. After giving you a friendly pat on the back that plants you on your face, he'll lament about how Ganondorf came and put the boulder in front of the Cavern, and how special you are. Somehow, you two become Sworn Brothers, whatever that means. Ooo, Darunia knows how to glow. That's pretty snazzy!

New Equipment: Goron's Ruby Death Mountain (Past)
 - The second of the three Spiritual Stones, this is the Spiritual Stone of Fire passed down by the Gorons!

 - With Spiritual Stone in hand, we're ready to get a few more things. Run away from the Goron hugs, Link!

 - After the humorous cutscene ends, you can quickly snag some nearby Gold Skulltula tokens.

Skulltula #69 Death Mountain (Past)
Requires: Bottle of Bugs (some nearby ones are under a rock at the beginning of the Graveyard)

 - Use Bugs on the soft patch of soil at the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern.
