| Chapter 2 - Princess of Destiny |
|
This section of the walkthrough covers the trip to Hyrule Castle to see Princess
Zelda.
|
|
|
|
| 2.1 Hylian Strides |
|
|
- After you have defeated the boss and stepped into the light, you
will emerge outside only to get another lecture from the tree before it
departs.
He'll tell you a story about the creation of Hyrule and the
Triforce, which the entire series revolves around. While I won't list it
all here, you can find it in the Triforce section.
- After he's done yapping, the tree willist give thou thine stone of cool
stuffness.
|
|
|
- The first of the three Spiritual Stones, this is the deeply held
treasure of the children of the forest.
|
|
 |
|
- Well that's exciting! After a lonely moment of Navi stalling in regret,
you'll regain control at last. Head back to the village to find Mido
blocking your way again. Speak with him to have him accuse you of
killing the Great Deku Tree before he storms off, the arrogant punk.
- Make sure you save real quick. Now, there isn't really anything left to do here at the moment, so go ahead
and make your way to the opposite side of the village and leave.
- On the way out, you will witness a short movie in which Saria says her
goodbyes and gives you an important item that becomes this game's theme.
|
|
|
- This mystical item allows you to play songs that, in a way, cast spells.
Whip it out and use the four (C) buttons and A to play. Press B to stop.
|
|
 |
|
- As soon as you exit, you'll witness a short clip giving you an overview
of the field. The castle on the opposite side is our goal. When you
regain control, head around the corner and- DOH!
- The owl who interrupts you is named Kaepora Gaebora, and he will speak
to you endlessly about various matters.
After you're done reading
it, be careful to press the correct answer (yes or no) at the end so
he won't tell you again. Nintendo swaps it up just to frustrate you.
- After all of that is finished, enter the whole of the field and begin
making your way towards the castle. You can see it on your map at
the top, or you can simply follow the road, which will also keep the
Stalchildren from attacking you.

- These skeletal enemies appear only at night in Hyrule Field.
If you walk for a little ways, they will burry themselves back
into the dirt, only to reemerge later.
- While they are easy to defeat with two hits of just about anything,
their numbers are endless. Just stay on the roads to avoid
confrontation. Also, while it's technically not any different,
occasionally a giant one appears! |
|
- Once you get to the castle, it should be JUST turning night if you
made it in time. Otherwise, hang out here killing Stalchildren until
morning when the drawbridge is lowered.
- As soon as you enter, there's a door you can go through on this
screen. Inside, there's a lone guard whom is bored and will allow
you to smash all the pots for the heck of it. It's a good way to get
quick money, so take advantage of it.
|
|
- Near the drawbridge at the entrance to the Market, there's a door
leading into the Guardhouse. Go inside and roll into the crates to the right of
the soldier.

| |
- Go ahead and leave and go to the main portion of the Market.
While there are a couple things we can do here, we're going to wait
until a little later. Just head across to the opposite side which
leads to the castle.
|
|
| 2.2 Trespassing |
|
|
- Shortly after you enter, you will witness another cutscene with the
obnoxious owl. Basically he tells you that you are indeed in the
right place and that in some parts of the game, time is paused while
in other places time moves normally. Time doesn't pass in towns, for
the most part, while areas with more movement, such as here, it
does.
- After he's done rambling, it's pretty obvious we can't go too far
because of the guards everywhere (and the gate)...
- At this point, we can make it all the way through this area up until
a point. We need to "load this area" over again in order to make a
certain character appear.
You can do this by either getting caught by
one of the guards or simply leaving (going to the Market) and coming
back.
- When you come back (or get caught), go to the vines near the entrance to
this area to find Malon, the red-headed ranch girl, who will be singing
if it's night. Speak with her multiple times
to learn that she's waiting for her father as well as receive an
egg. Whoa-ho! I think she digs you... Okay, maybe it's just a little odd...
|
|
|
- When the sun rises the next time, this item will become a chicken!
|
|
 |
|
- After you receive this strange gift, climb up the middle vine behind her
and after going a little ways, either jump off or climb down the ladder
to get on the other side of the gate.
- From there, you'll have to climb along the steep ledge to go between the
guards posted nearby. And yes, it is possible.
- Once up there, stay in the grassy area to avoid being spotted and make
your way over to the wall on the opposite side. There's steps leading
towards the castle, but guards are posted there. Instead, use the funny
looking rocks along the wall on the left, which are in fact, climbable.
- At the top, continue along the wall, jump down and into the water. There
are guards above, so just follow the flow until you get to a corner that
will allow you to climb out. Continue around the side and you'll find
Talon asleep.
- At some point (just wait around if it hasn't happened yet) a new day
will break and your egg will hatch.
| Quest Item: Chicken |
Hyrule Castle (Past) |
|
|
- Your egg has hatched into a chicken! Use it to wake up Malon's lazy
father in Hyrule Castle.
|
|
 |
|
- Set your funky new item to a (C) Button and use it while facing the fat
farmer to awaken him. After some mindless rambling, he will exclaim how
his daughter will slaughter him, even though she's always smiling and
giggly.
- Now that he's out of the way, drag and push the crates nearby into the
water. Push the other on top of the first, then climb on top of it. Use
these to jump to the source of the water in the wall, which is small
enough for you to crawl through.
- This area is littered with guards. Surely they could find better ways of
keeping watch than making circles around the flowers... "No way in HELL
are people taking these royal blooms!"
- Obviously, the goal is not to get caught. You can stand behind them, but
not to either side. Wait until they are either on the opposite side of a
fountain, statue, topiary, or are simply walking away from you to make
your move.
 |
- The first area is just a single guard around a
large square. Easily done.
|
 |
- The second has two guards, each patrolling a
separate fountain. One walks swiftly, so if it looks awkward
to avoid being caught, just wait until the things look a
little less "iffy" and go for it.
|
 |
- The third has a single wooden pillar with Rupees
around it. The guard's line of sight is pathetic, but it's
really not worth the risk to snag the yummies. It's also
possible to walk over the wooden part entirely, but that's
risky as well.
|
 |
- The next area has two guards patrolling a giant
statue. Once again, one moves faster than the other, so wait
for a good chance to make your move.
|
 |
- The last area is simply a long topiary area with
two guards who both move quickly. They're easily avoided.
|
- Continue on through and make your way due left.
- This small area where the princess hangs out is peaceful compared to the
last area. Check out the pictures in the window on the right side to see
cameo pictures of Yoshi, Mario, Bowser and Luigi!
- Anyway, *cough* speak with the princess to engage in another lengthy
conversation. After a quick exchange of names, she's will to give away
her family's deepest secrets.
Apparently, after the goddesses left the
land of Hyrule, a portion of their power remained in form of three
magical triangles known as the Triforce, which will grant the wishes of
anyone who touches it.
- After being allowed a peep show at a creepy Gerudo man named Ganondorf,
she will recruit you to retrieve the remaining Spiritual Stones to get
to the Sacred Realm before him. In doing so, she will give you a
"letter", which you can use to the guard in Kakariko Village to let you
pass.
|
|
|
- Zelda's personal autograph! Use this to get past the guard at the base
of Death Mountain in Kakariko Village.
|
|
 |
|
- Turn around now and head for the exit. You will be greeted by Zelda's
nursemaid, a ninja of sorts loyal to the royal family, but the princess
in particular. She believes the young lady's visions and is going to
help you on your quest.
|

- This is the melody of the royal family. Play it whenever you need to
prove your connection to them or you see a Triforce symbol (three triangle
pattern). |
|
 |
|
- Impa will then lead you outside the castle and point you towards
Kakariko Village. After a quick flash of light, you are left to seek out
your next objective. Unfortunately, there's a few things we have to do
first that she didn't mention... Stupid, stupid lady!
